When is this guy going to learn to protect the farging football?

He fumbles way too goddamn much. He slings the ball way outside his body and leaves it wide open for people to hit it out.

If that moron doesn't fumble the Eagles go up 27-13.

Protect the football, pal.

BigEd76

He's fine as long as he catches it in the endzone, not inside the 10...  ;D

Yeah, I'm not shocked that he fumbled that one.  It's a problem...

They should do LJ like they did Omar Epps in "The Program".

Make him hold the ball all fargin' week... and have his teammates try to knock it out.  Anybody other than LJ brings the ball back to AR... bench his ass.

I had Super Bowl flashbacks on that one.  >:(

He always does it fighting for yards, so you can't knock him too bad. He's just high motor. He has to learn the difference between fighting for yards, and playing safe and laying down. It'll come. LJ is going to be a beast this year.  :yay

If not for his fumbles, he'd be better than any tight end out there. All he needs to do is hold onto the friggen' ball.

I can respect his effort all day long... but dammit... he's gotta be smarter about that ish.  There was a play earlier where he was fighting and holding the ball out there waiting to be knocked out.  He's gotta keep that ish close to the body.

Fighting for yards is all well and good but a fumble is a fumble. Effort's great, but if he keeps turning the ball over I'd rather he quit fighting for yards and turn fetal on the ground.

Eaglez

Especially when you are inside the 10 yard line. That is the absolute time to protect the ball. I always cringe when LJ does that.

TO can get away with it because he has open field, you can't hold the ball so far away from your body when you are working the middle.

That really pissed me off too. Thats a bad habit for a TE to have. Hopefully it is corrected quick.

Just a thought:

During the PSU/Northwestern game yesterday they showed a ball wrapped in silk that they make their RBs carry during practice.

I really think it's part of LJ trying to show the coaching staff he can be the guy. He'll learn he own the position, and he'll settle down. He plays great, but at times seems skittish still, as if he is trying to impress by going outside his lane. He'll cool out, and Reid and Co. will get him sorted out.

And...?

Were they not supposed to wrinkle the silk or something? Or was it for them to work on holding a slippery football?

Eaglez

I think LJ can keep is tenacity but protect the ball at the same time. It's not a zero sum game. Just hold the ball near your chest when you are in traffic. Thats all.

mussa

yea every catch it seems like the balls just put out there for the defeneders.  i agree phreak.  lj needs to protect the ball more.

I agree, he fumbles way too much. It's nice going for the extra yard, but every time he doesd that it gets knocked loose. Someone needs to tell him to take what he can get and get DOWN.
