Wild game.  Flyers had a 5-1 lead (Gagne had 2 goals and 2 assists, while Forsberg had 4 assists  :drool ).....then the Penguins came back to tie it at 5-5 on a fluke goal from center ice, when Niittymaki was busy clearing snow away from the posts...  :boom

Goes to OT, where Rathje scores a PP goal to win it 6-5.  They went to Hitchcock after the game and someone asked him about Niitty not paying attention on the fluke goal, where he replied "No s**t" live on the air...  :-D

Seabiscuit36

Hitch is awsome  :yay  Forsberg is friggin amazing and Gagne and Joni are men now  :yay

gutty win

forsberg is unreal...knew he was great but you dont realize how truly amazing he is until you see him nite in and out

i brought this up after a previous game but the flyers defenseman need to get better from the point...i counted over 20 shots from the point last night that missed the net or were blocked...its frustrating as hell and needs to be improved on...they move the puck real well but have no one with an above average shot from back there...it really hurts their power play

and i still wish they had another finisher on the team...

be interesting to see how they do back to back tonite...especially hatcher

what about that save from caron   :o  :o  best ever

Any win over the fargins Penguins is a good win over the farging Penguins.

PhillyGirl

Gutty win is right.

Funny IGY, you don't mention Nitty's game much in your post.

::) ::) ::)

Some thoughts:

1.  How many of you threw something at the TV when Nittymaki gave up that goal from the blueline?  Luckily the closest thing to me was a pillow.

2.  Rathje is freaking HUGE!

3.  That save from Caron WAS amazing.  Good to see the refs go upstairs for both of those disallowed goals.

4.  The call on Johnsson that put the Flyers down 5-3 was garbage.

5.  The combination of Forsberg and Gagne is FANTASTIC.  :yay

6.  Flyers almost blew that lead- actually, DID blow it and gave Pittsburgh a point.  They have been weak defensively and at goal, and we can't blame that all on the new rules.  Not sure if speed is the only issue, but there were several times that the Flyers were hard pressed to keep up with the Pittsburgh skaters.

7.  Sydney Crosby is going to be a star in this league.  And Mario Lemeiux still has it at age 40.

8.  Eric Desjardins STILL can't hit the broad side of a barn from the point.  Neither can any of the defensemen from the point, apparently.

9.  I agreed with IGY on THREE different points?   :paranoid

PhillyGirl

Nitty was watching Forsberg's play on the Phanavision when that goal went in. And Geo, it wasn't from the blueline, it was from THE CENTER ICE LINE.  :boom

Hatcher is awesome. And he was "rusty" last night.

Pitkanen and Johnsson can both hit the net well with shots. As can Hatcher.

Hatcher comes back, Flyers win both games.

WEST is GOD

The penalties are out of control. I miss the old hockey. It was just better.
THIS SEASON IS OVER AND ANDY'S WORLD IS GRIDL

Offseason needs: 2 DEs, 1 DT, 1 OL, 2 LBs, 1 RB, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 KR.

So far they ARE calling EVERYTHING.  I don't know if this will continue, or if there will be a happy medium.

How long was that 5-on-3 for the Flyers at the end of the 2nd/ beginning of the 3rd period?

Anyways, the Flyers looked really good today against the Fishsticks.  First time I've seen them look that good all season (saw only the Rangers and Penguin games before).  :yay

The penalties will settle down after a while, with all the rule changes they have to enforce them early to set a precedent in the league. I like how open the game is but definitely agree they have to chill on the calls.
