If the Niners were smart they would've drafted Edwards and took Leinart next season, because they are definitely finishing last. They are still terrible.

Adam Shefter made a good point though. He said the Niners' offensive line is so bad, Alex Smith will be on crutches by week 5. Better to let him ride the bench for half a season so Rattay can suffer that fate instead.

I agree too.  Alex Smith was one of the least qualified to be the #1 pick in recent memory.  He's going to suck anyway, and I felt Rattay was given garbage to work with and didn't do half bad.  Give him a receiver (Edwards), and you might  get something going.  Instead, they add Smith, who will probably end up like Rivers in San Diego... riding the pine.

Exactly. Rattay is a decent QB who needed weapons. Instead they have an inexperienced, underqualified, over-paid QB who will wreck their cap and give them poor production. Stupid.

Either that or they should've traded down and gotten multiple picks. I don't think you should draft a QB #1 unless he is extremely special in college anymore. There hasn't been a Culpepper or a McNabb or a Manning lately. The last few drafts, I think the QBs taken high were reaches. Hell, the Niners could've probably been able to turn that #1 pick into Mike Williams and a defensive player. They could've made a deal with the Skins who wanted a QB badly. I personally think they should've waited to see what Rattay can do when healthy and with weapons.

The same thing happened with the Lions. I thought Harrington was a dumb pick #2 overall and he f'n blows. They should've stuck with Mcmahon and drafted defense high. They might be a playoff team if they drafted smart.

It doesn't really matter to me, though. The Niners will suck and that is one less NFC team to worry about. Though it would be nice to not walk in every week and expect a total blowout like last year. I like games that make you sweat a bit.
