Anyone seen a good movie lately?

Rome

Just got back from Haywire.

The movie was very good.  The pacing was good although in between ass kicking and other assorted bursts of action it dragged a little bit.  For an hour and ten minutes little happened plot-wise, but in the last twenty minutes it was all made clear.  Flashback sequencing isn't my favorite story-telling device, but in this case, it was actually very well done.  Not surprising considering the director.

There were a few surprises too (mostly visual winks from Soderbergh, one of which I laughed out loud at) but I think I was the only one in the theater who got them.  Freaking Daytona Beach morons...

Soderbergh is a master even in a fairly generic action flick.  The score was excellent and the other actors were very good as well.  A special nod goes to Antonio Banderas but I won't say why.

Gina Carano can't act a lick, but then again, she's not really required to do much other than kick the shtein out of people and look blazingly hot (which she does - good God does she ever).

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable movie.  It's not one of Soderbergh's best but it's definitely worth nine bucks.

4/5

Watched the Devil Inside. It was short and predictable.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

what's with all the conan sex scenes in that clip?

Was just talking about this the other day with some friends.  He's starting to pigeon hole himself into certain types of roles.

Crappy Movie Alert

Cop Out - Tracy Morgan is awful and Bruce Willis isn't even trying.  Pretty much what I expected going in.

The Set Up - Never heard of it, saw it on Netflix and gave a look.  50 Cent has the lead role and I'm suspect of any movie that features rappers as lead actors.  Writing was terrible, the story was predictable and it had more holes in the story than a fishing net.  Just to paint a picture of how bad the actiing in this movie was....Bruce Willis was the best actor in it.  Not best as in most famous or biggest name, but best as in actual acting ability.

Hall Pass - Had some really funny parts and some jokes that fell flat.  Worth a watch but not worth going out of your way to watch.

Marmaduke - Why was this movie even made?  I changed my netflix password after watching this to prevent squaw from being able to add movies to the queue.
