Holy Mystery! Mayhem at the Vatican
By A. O. SCOTT
Published: May 15, 2009

Since "Angels & Demons" takes place mainly in the Vatican, and is festooned with the rites and ornaments of Roman Catholicism, I might as well begin with a confession. I have not read the novel by Dan Brown on which this film (directed, like its predecessor, "The Da Vinci Code," by Ron Howard) is based. I have come to believe that to do so would be a sin against my faith, not in the Church of Rome but in the English language, a noble and beleaguered institution against which Mr. Brown practices vile and unspeakable blasphemy.

So he hasn't read the book but believes he's in a position to criticize Brown's writing? What an assbag. Never mind that he's right and Brown isn't a very good writer, he should be shot for passing judgement on something he's never been exposed to.

interpretation is not your strong suit huh?

obviously hes read other brown books

Angels & Demons - like the book, better than the DaVinci Code.  stayed true to the original story line but left a lot out a lot of stuff from the book.  but the things that were left out of the movie didn't really take away from the movie at all.  the movie was right about 2 hours long, which is about how long the DaVinci Code should have been.  all in all, they did a much better job with this one.  4/5

im sure you didnt analyze nearly this much but ive read like five different reviews of this movie that all talk about how the movie has the characters constantly telling each other things they already should know and translating words into english in the middle of sentences and then explaining everything again...that basically the characters are delivery systems for obscure information and its incredibly annoying

No I was more or less thinking of most roles he plays he plays a pretty animated role, this role he played was just kind of dull of emotions.

Actually, Angels and Demons changes quite a bit about the book.

SPOILER

The entire character set up to be the fall guy in the book isn't in the movie.

The preferiti that he saves in the movie who becomes the pope gets killed in the book.

The entire motivation of the Vatican and the camerlengo is different because BBC has already broadcast the cardinals being murdered in the book instead of it being a huge secret in the movie.

I didn't love the book but I enjoyed it.  Can't say the same for the movie.

Is anyone else creaming themselves over Drag Me To Hell?

Raimi was on P&S this morning...it's on my short list of movies to see. He talked about doing a monkey's paw film which would be bad ass.

i'm trying not to over analyze the movie, just like i didn't try to over analyze the book.....or more specifically, dan brown's writing.  both the da vinci code and angels and demons follow the basic story telling formula.  he may have some minor surprises along the way but overall, it's not too hard to figure out where the story is going and what the overall outcome is going to be.

what i do like about his writing though is that he does an excellent job of going into detail so that the reader is able to visualize what's actually going on, and that's something that a lot of writers have a hard time doing.  so i give him a lot of credit for that.

if you read the books or watch the movies and are looking for a plot full of twists and turns with deep characters and surprise endings, then you're not going to get it with dan brown.  but if you're looking for some entertainment and want to escape reality for a couple of hours, then the books and/or movies are going to more than satisfy, which is why i gave it the grade i did.  it lived up to my expectations based on the book and i was entertained from start to finish.

and yeah, the fact that dude critiqued the book without having read it is pretty farging sad.  douche bag.
