Anyone seen a good movie lately?

Cloverfield - I had high hopes when it first came out. I guess I fell victim to the buzz.  After hearing that so many thought it sucked ass, I didn't have high expectations when it finally made it to my mailbox.  If I was expecting a great suspense/thrill movie, it would have been a 1.5/5.  Since I was now expecting complete bullshtein, I give it a 3/5.  Much better to expect nothing and get something.

so slapshot is the second best sports movie of all-time but it's only a 3.5?  meaning that theres only one possible sports movie ever to get a 5?

truth be told i might agree with much of what youre saying as in general sports movies are horrible (including hoosiers)...i was just pointing out the math to matty

even if  most of those didnt suck you still named only six...thats hardly a lot


the problem with sports movies is that outside of golf and to a certain extent hockey its impossible to recreate the games to not make them look laughably unrealistic...also they are always unbelievably melodramatic...this is probably why slap shot and caddyshack are two of the rare good ones because they are hockey and gold comedies

btw i dont know if anyone saw it but afi had a special on the other night where they ranked the top ten movies of each genre....this was there top 10 sports

1. raging bull - decent but overrated and no replay value
2. rocky - classic
3. the pride of the yankees - sucks
4. hoosiers - puke
5. bull durham - ok when it came out but has aged terribly

6. the hustler - crap
7. caddyshack - classic
8. breaking away - gay
9. national velvet - never seen but looks like it could lead to suicide
10. jerry maguire - corny plus cuba gooding is in it

1-7 are classics (other than Pride of the Yankees which I've never seen). Don't get me started on Raging Bull. I own it and have re-watched it many times.
