just got back from juno and we have a new leader in the clubhouse for movie of the year...what a great farging movie...knocked up for grown ups (a million times better overall)...what made it so great was that it easily could have morphed into a too smart for its own good melodrama cookie cutter type movie...but instead it ended up being a super intelligent heartfelt serious comedy...i actually welled up at the end...

ellen page was scary good and should win the oscar...same for diablo codys screenplay which made every single character in the movie multi demensional and so interesting...2007 keeps elevating itself to the point that it might be the best year for american movies since sometime in the early 90's

10/10

You sure you aren't a regular over at ES?

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

saw Juno yesterday.  i was a little worried that it was going to try to be too smart for it's own good and very condescending but it wasn't at all.  i'm not in IGY love with it, but it was very good.  ellen page was excellent and every time michael cera was onscreen i laughed, as usual.  although he wasn't even in it that much, and i expected to laugh a little more than I did.  overall though it's extremely well acted and a nice little story.  definitely a must see.

If you liked the Rambo movies Rambo IV is awesome.  Stallone does a nice job tastefully (IMO) of closing out John Rambo.  Can't say it's a 4 star but it is 2 star for sure and for some a solid 3 star.  Most Violent battle seens since "Braveheart".  Stallone stars and directs this and makes the bad guys so vile the audience cheered at "pay back time" when they got there heads blown in 1/2 :-D :-D :yay :yay :yay

Juno - 4.5/5 - I wanted to see No country for old men or There will be blood, the g/f wanted to see Atonement, so we settled on Juno. Like everything that's overhyped I went into the movie looking for reasons to hate it. Every character in the movie just seemed perfect, the plot was great, and the acting was top notch, even Garner who I hate did an outstanding job.

My g/f said the exact same thing (almost word for word) when we left the theater and I would have to agree.

Yep, nice way to finally close the book on Rambo.  It was exactly what you'd expect from a good action flick.  It was an all you can eat buffet of violence, death, destruction, blood and explosions.  The only thing I would have liked to see a little more of was some scenes of Rambo popping out of bushes or from under the water or something and blowing shtein up.  Still, awesome flick though.  I'll give it 4.5/5 because it gives you pretty much everything you'd expect from it......and then some.

"No Country for Old Men" wins the SAG award and is now the clear favorite for the Oscar.

It's never too early for a meaningless splitting of hairs.

Susquehanna Birder

Rented "once" and watched it last night. Quite different kind of movie, in a good way. Not a real grabber of a plot, but the music was excellent. It's more of a modern-day musical, I guess. Kind of like a combination of character study and long-form music video.

Watched Last Tango In Paris last night. I have mixed feelings about it. It was extremely well-acted but the plot was a little too post-modern for me. The dialog is supposed to be frank and solemn but most of it comes across as overly introspective, like teenagers talking about their deepest feelings after getting stoned for the first time. Brando's scenes where he's speaking to his ex-wife's corpse and his ex-wife's lover (different scenes) were remarkable because Brando was the shtein, and the sex was mostly excellent and very adult (plus anal). It was interesting, but not really a great movie in my opinion.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

watched a few movies this weekend...

Lucky Number Slevin - i went into this expecting to see a Smokin Aces type, stupid action, lame type movie.  it was actually better than that imo.  the plot twists were transparent, but that didn't stop it from being pretty well done with some decent actors in Willis, Kinsley, and Freeman.

Breach - pretty good.  not sure how true to the actual events it was, but it was a well told story.  Chris Cooper did a great job with the character, who was someone you liked and hated at the same time, knowing what he did the whole time.

The Hitcher - never saw the original, but this was decent for a horror flick.  the bad guy was all out evil and they did a good job of showing that.  the way he killed the boyfriend was top notch.  also, how he escaped his handcuffs was gross, but awesome.

I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.
