Wait, Julia Roberts is an annoying self-righteous bitch?  When did that happen?   :-D

BTW: The broad she was playing was a rich, right-wing whore from Texas.  Check out the documentary on Charlie Wilson.  If that is what Roberts was aiming for then she nailed the woman, dead on.

ice grillin you

i am legend- great concept, will smith was quality, really cool to watch...then it just ended. it took itself really seriously, and it ended. pretty much what everyone told me. 2.5/5

blood diamond- great movie but too preachy about the hardships and struggles of africa. we know, it sucks over there. bla bla bla. jenn connelly also gets points deducted for getting a breast reduction. why would you do that. why. 3/5
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Watched a chick flick with the Mrs. tonight that was decent.  Something called Music & Lyrics with Hugh Grant & Drew Barrymore.  The romantic comedy side of it was excruciating but Hugh Grant was hysterical in a role that might as well have been entitled "Andrew Ridgeley From Wham!"

He actually made me laugh several times.  Sadly, whenever Drew Barrymore entered a scene I had to put both fingers in my ears.  The musical numbers were pretty painful although there was a hot slut who was supposed to be Christina Aguilera in the movie who wasn't half bad.  Brad Garrett from Everyone Hates Raymond played a secondary part and wasn't awful and Kristen Johnson from Third Rock From The Sun played Barrymore's sister.  She was better than Garrett and infinitely better than Drew Barrymore.

Anyway, overall it was a mess but there was a lot of 80's stuff in there that made me laugh (Pop-Up Video for one) and again Hugh Grant was excellent in a role that could have been cringe inducing.

Scenes Hugh Grant was in: 4 out of 5 stars.

Scenes where the hot slut was half naked:  5 out of 5 stars.

Everything else including the music, plot, & especially Drew Barrymore:  0 out of 5 stars.

Overall: 2/5 stars.

I got dragged ino watching that too - and I'd say the same as you did. Hugh Grant had be laughing good a few times with his dripping sarcasm.

Superman II, Donner Cut - very different from the original cut, i liked this one much better...watching the extras i realized how bitter Richard Donner was that they replaced midway through the filming of the movie.  also, the original cut had a bunch of Brando footage that they didn't use for some stupid reason, that was in the Donner cut.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

Saw three movies this weekend:
The Legend of Billy Jean: Mid-80's teen flick with Christian Slater and some other 80's losers who faded away. Pretty poor story of some Texas teens who turn into 'rebels' which means them shoplifting and leaving I.O.U's.. i have the feeling this is one of those movies you had to identify with when you were young in order to like now. I didn't then and I don't now. C-.

Superbad: Really funny. What else can I say that hasen't been said? Really, really needed some boobs.  B+.

No Country for old Men: A lot has been said already but I need to weigh in. I am a huge Coen brothers fan, and I have enjoyed their recent semi-commercial humor trend as much as anyone (although I haven't actually watched anything since 'O brother where art thou').  That being said, this movie is one of the darkest, most depressing and most amazing movies i have ever seen. The movie is almost perfect. Every shot, every angle has a point. The dialogue is incredible: deep, funny, real. There are so many things to like about this flick and so few things to dislike (woody harrelson for me. He just didn't fit).

So now that we all agree that this is an amazing film, let's discuss. It seems pretty clear to me that the movie is not about Llewlyn or the cop, it is really about Chagar. He is the focus of the movie, and it seems like this movie is really about him.
What does he represent? One one hand he seems to be the embodiment of chaos and it's destructive nature. This is supported by his obsession with the coin flipping. Yet in another way, he is the embodiment of the ineluctable nature of fate. Once Llewlyn takes the money, he is doomed and Chagar's relentlessness is the perfect expression of that.

Also, what was the point of showing Chagar being hit by the car at the end? To underscore the message about choas and randomness? To show that Chager was not just a principle emobodied but in fact a real man subject to the same forces as everyone else?

Finally, even when they close the movie and try and show some light at the end of the tunnel, it is still depressing;  Tommy Lee Jones dreaming about death and meeting his father there. Basically, life is a struggle and your only reward is the afterlife with your loved ones.

OK. feel free to call me a nerd now, but that was one powerful movie.

*** Massive Cormac McCarthy Nerd Talk, Though No Real Spoilers ***

I think looking too deeply into a movie/story like No Country will drive you nuts. I read the book, and I felt like it was first time that Cormac McCarthy allowed himself to be self indulgent. He wrote a story about growing old and realizing that the world isn't designed for the elderly.

Having said that, Chigurh is simply an example of something that an old man can't contend with on his own. Chigurh follows one rule. Protect yourself. He can't be reasoned with and he acts without remorse. It may seem like chaos and anarchy to someone else (like an aging, comfortable, moral sheriff), but it makes perfect sense to him. He kills people that could do him harm in some way. The part that makes him scary is that he enjoys the killing. That's where the coin comes into play. It's his way of adding some excitement to something (murder) that he normally just does as a matter of course.

The car wreck is McCarthy's way of letting the reader/viewer know that Chigurh isn't a supernatural force of evil, but rather a man who has simply decided to live his life by a much different code of ethics than the rest of us. He is vulnerable like the rest of us. He just does every single thing that he can to avoid that vulnerability.

At least that's how I read it.

Superbad started out OK but was underwhelming overall

I like that description of the car wreck, because I've been chewing on the point of it since I saw the movie.  I saw it coming the minute he got into the car, and couldn't put a finger on the reasoning.  Your's works.  Thanks.
Anyone but Reid.

"Bourne Ultimatum"

Through 3 of these movies, I still can't believe Matt Damon is as good as he is at this action stuff.  Regardless, this is the best of the three, and I would recommend anyone who enjoyed either of the first two should see it.  2 hours feels like 10 minutes.

4.5/5 - one of the best and most entertaining movies in recent memory

FF, you couldnt more on point. I sell this movie over and over to anyone who hasnt seen it. That car chase scene is beyond ridiculous, and thats just one of the extreme highlights of that movie

So I also just finished the Ultimatum, or whatever. It was good, but Will Hunting still needs to stop looking like Mark Hamill.

The truth is that it wouldn't have even been necessary except that he wrote a story with a very supernatural antagonist (in Blood Meridian) and I think he wanted to make sure that his readers understood that we wasn't writing about some sort of spook.
