"Blood Diamond"

It's actually a very similar movie to "Hotel Rwanda" - rebels vs. government, Americans and UN only barely pretending to help, etc etc.  I think if anything the characters are more developed in "Diamond" though.  Really an excellent film apart from a few movie cliches.  I can't imagine any fan of movies would not enjoy this.

Also, Djimon Hounsou was robbed.  First, he should have been nominated for "Best Actor" instead of "Supporting"... but while I was a huge fan of Arkin's performance in "Little Miss Sunshine", Hounsou was leaps and bounds better.

4/5 (would be a 4.5 or so without some of the cliched parts of the ending)

Back to Conan the barbarian I can not believe that IGY is sticking up for a movie that is loved by 300 repeat attenders.

that is incredibly accurate though watch it again. When Valeria dies her lines are so cliche it's an absolute classic. "I feel so cold...."

It's a good movie and all bit I just can't take it srlsy.

...and I was a 19th level paladin freakaziod from back in the day when DND wasn't so cool as opposed to totally unacceptable in the now times.

Conan the Barbarian was on AMC last night. What an awesomely bad movie. The acting was so bad it was great and the script was just horrible and laughable. Amazing what we thought was good back in the day.

Gerry Lopez is a better actor than he is a legendary surfer.

Rome you are da man!  Every time I hear "Conan The Barbarian" I think of Gerry Lopez.  To this day I still don't know how he landed that role.  There is some story behind it.  shtein, he owned Pipeline in the 70's.  Greatest surf movie ever was called "5 Summer Stories" came out in 1974 - which I watched the night before Super Bowl XXXIX to mellow out.  Some awesome footage of Lopez.

Now does that look like a poster for a movie from 1974?  I saw this movie six times when I was a kid at the theater.

i havent seen it phreak but a friend did and said its a good movie but plodding at times and plays very long...i was gonna see it but he recommended that i wait til netflix as its not a movie youd want/need to see in a theater

Thanks.

A friend of mine at work said the same thing. But he said Ruffalo does a great job as the lead. I am still p0robably going to go see it though. I dig the serial killer shtein.

One of my first boards when I was a kid was a 5'10" twin fin Lightning Bolt model and I got it because of Lopez.  He was a freak back in the day.  He totally revolutionized the sport.  The man can still surf Pipe at his age today.

That's ridiculous.

saw Rocky Balboa this weekend.  pretty corny all the way through but overall not too bad.  not even close to being one of the best as i've heard some people say.  his son is a huge hack and 75% of the conversations were mind numbingly stupid.  i wish they would have went more into the training and the fight, basically it's an hour of fluff then when he decides to fight they spend like 5 minutes on his training and its fight day already.  anyway, it's a better wrap-up than rocky 4 obviously, but nothing special.  definitely worth seeing though.

theres a big difference between fanboydom and simply liking a movie...like you said you cant take conan seriously but that doesnt mean its not a great movie...whereas movies like 300 have their groupies who take it waaaaaaay too seriously and should all be castrated

I wasnt a big fan of Millers Crossing, it just seemed like it was missing something.  Sorry IGY.

I'll definitely have to get Blood Diamond, i really liked Hotel Rwanda, though Cheadle was just ridiculously good as he always is.

Finally saw The Prestige. F'n awesome. Bale was phenomenal, as usual. 4/5

Also saw The Holiday, or Holiday, whatever it's called. Wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be, but, I wouldn't watch it again. Loved the little cameo spots. 2.5/5
Maybe the voices aren't real, but, they've got some pretty good ideas...

300 was OK, nothing great.

Any reason why it got away with all the blood being shown in color but Kill Bill Vol 1 didn't?
