i have no complaints with the departed winning, as it was a great movie, but little miss sunshine was definitely the best of the year.

Its just a matter of time for Judge Reinhold to get his  :-D

Anthony Edwards was nominated for an Emmy four times for "ER."  And let's not forget about Eric Stoltz who's had a brilliant career as well.

On the female side, Jennifer Jason Leigh has had an incredible career too.

Again - just an amazing cast of actors.

My local IMAX currently has their showtimes set only through March 8th.

I'm definitely seeing it there if they have it.

I was surprised when Peter O'Toole didn't win.

Um... why?  Just because he's been nominated a lot?

I heard nothing to indicate he really was truly in the running...

not mine, KOP has times through March 15

The Academy tends to reward old farts who've been nominated a gazillion times in the past.  That's why I thought O'Toole would win.  I'm not saying he deserved to win just that I thought he'd get the nod.

Wiki list of Best Picture winners and nominees every year

Among the 50 nominees over the last 10 years, I've seen 9 of them total, none since Erin Brockovich in 2000, and only 3 in the year they were nominated.   :-\

Wow. I watch movies the way you pour over the internet for obscure sports factoids and stats so I have a hard time even fathoming the idea of only seeing 9 of the last 50 nominees...

Yeah, as I suspected, I've seen 36 of them.

The ones I haven't seen...

1998: Elizabeth, Life is Beautiful, The Thin Red Line
1999: The Insider
2000: Chocolat
2001: In the Bedroom
2002: Gangs of New York, The Hours
2003: Master and Commander, Seabiscuit
2005: Brokeback Mountain
2006: Babel, Letters from Iwo Jima, The Queen

Saw all of them from 1997 and 2004.

I've seen 8 from the last 3 years, including all 3 winners.  23 of the last 50.

He totally should have won one for his performance in Beverly Hills Cop III.

The reviews of the telecast are all similar to mine... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

This tidbit is a good indication:
QuoteNor did Sacha Baron Cohen appear. Asked to be a presenter, he said he would do it only if he could be in character as Borat. But the Powers-That-Be said, "No way," thus eliminating what surely might have been an oasis of humor in a desert of mediocrity. Morons.

They ixnay Borat, but they let Jack Black and Will Ferrell dance and sing.
