Bodog has "The Departed" Oscar odds at 1:6 right now and Scorsese for winning best director at 1:9.

Looks like a shoo-in.

The direction of that movie was significantly better than the writing or the editing, but the acting was probably the best part... and only Mark Wahlberg got nominated.

I don't think that bodes particularly well for Scorcese, although he wouldn't be the first to win an "ok, let's finally give them one" Oscar.  IE: Julia Roberts in "Erin Brockovich" was not an Oscar-worthy performance.

It's especially good with subjects like the serengeti, or the one you saw..grand subjects, etc..

Do IMAX DVD's come with glasses for the 3-D effect, or are they just normal?

There's no such thing as an "IMAX" DVD.  Movies formatted for IMAX can't be duplicated on a DVD, since part of the formatting assumes video and audio requirements that can't reasonably be met and certainly can't be expected to actually exist in someone's home.

DiCaprio not getting nominated is a farging farce.

Wahlberg was good, and I wanted his character to have a bigger role... but obviously his conspicuous absence for much of the 2nd half of the movie is a key plot device.

Nicholson gets recognized so often, but he easily gave the best supporting performance in the film... that said, it's just a walk in the park for him.  I only hope they used a stunt double for his cock in the theater scene.

I dissed Anthony Anderson before I saw the movie, but he was fine for his small role.  Didn't take much.

Damon was probably the weakest link in the cast but still did an acceptable job.  I couldn't stop thinking he was basically Will Hunting playing a dirty cop.

The chick was also far from great and could have used some boobies for the sex scene.

DiCaprio turned in a truly great performance and easily the best of the movie, but I hear he was even better in "Blood Diamond" - which he is nominated for... and frankly, I can't imagine that performance comes anywhere close to his work in "The Aviator".  It's still a travesty IMO that he didn't win for that, but he was up against a killer performance from Jamie Foxx in "Ray".  He's also going to get his ass beat by Forest Whitaker this year.  Tell Jesse Jackson the blacks are taking over Hollywood!

I actually diagree with that. True, her part didn't require a ton of ability, but I thought she filled the role perfectly. And was more than hot enough.
