and any small amout of humor they might contain get overshawdowed by their pretentiousness

That's what film makers do.

Look at your favorite movie of the moment. If Children of Men isn't pretentious, I'm-smarter-than-you-and-here's-the-world-as-I-see-it, I don't know what is. Does that preclude it from being a good movie?

what are you talking about...its an action movie....its literally one long chase scene...does it carry a message yes...but just because a movie carries a message doesnt mean its pretentious...it not even closely comparable to wes anderson garbage

I don't see anything pretentious in any of the movies you idiots are arguing about.  And I've seen them all.

pretentious: characterized by assumption of dignity or importance.

That makes me think of Sly Stone in Cop Town.  Or Coldplay's music.  Not Wes Anderson, 12 Monkeys, or Children of Men.

watch this and if that doesnt answer your question nothing will...one of the most amazing scenes in movie history...really gotta be in the theater to fully appreiate it but....
