cant believe little miss sunshine got nominated for best picture

It has precisely zero chance to win.  It's a two-movie race between "Babel" and "The Departed".

Especially when something like United 93 gets overlooked.  IMO.

exactly murp

babel is confounding too...it got terrible reviews...and in my personal opinion was an average at best movie yet somehow scores a best pic nom...when and how did it become a good movie?

this has to be the worst set of best pic noms ever

It won the Golden Globe for Best Picture also.

Rome

I found this interesting:

QuotePerformance by an actress in a leading role

Penélope Cruz in "Volver" (Sony Pictures Classics)

Judi Dench in "Notes on a Scandal" (Fox Searchlight)

Helen Mirren in "The Queen" (Miramax, Pathé and Granada)

Meryl Streep in "The Devil Wears Prada" (20th Century Fox)

Kate Winslet in "Little Children" (New Line)

You always hear how women over 40 are practically ignored in the acting business in terms of good roles, yet somehow, three of the five nominees for best actress are not only over 40, they're over 50.

As far as Best Picture nominees go, I think it's a foregone conclusion that "Letters From Iwo Jima" is gonna win.

It won the Golden Globe for Best Picture also.

thats my point...so it became a good movie in the last two weeks after it won a golden globe

it won the golden globe because the foreign press wanted to honor a movie that was filmed in four different foreign countries by a foreign director

"Crash" only got 75% and WON

From what I've heard, "Babel" is kind of a similar film to "Crash" in many ways.

All anyone needs to know about the Oscars is that Hitchcock never won.

That's pretty damn low for a Best Picture nominee

im surprised it is even that high

i dont recall reading a good review of it and i remember in entertainment magazine where they take a random sampling of 10 different critics it got a C+ average

69% of reviewers had ANY sort of positive review.  Anything "C+" or better would fall into that category.

That means 31% of reviewers thought the movie was worse than average and completely didn't like it.

Borat and/or Sasha Baron Cohen should have got nominated. Best Adapted Screenplay my ass.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Best Adapted Screenplay my ass.

...especially because so much of it was actually unscripted.

borat was as painfully average as babel

half of it (and thats probably being kind) was brilliantly hilarious and half of it was really unfunny
