call me by my name is today and then ill have seen every nominated pic

just watched this

theres a damn good reason why the script is lock for best adapted screenplay...the final scene between chalamat and his dad is farging poetry. not everything entirely works and there are way too many endless shots of the italian countryside and these two jewish queens biking everywhere. its also painfully slow especially early. but chalamat is outstanding and the final hour and final scene are superb. its also the most focused, singular movie of the ones nominated. tone-wise and thematically consistent from shot 1 to the end. chalamat is the next leo. 4/5

i have zero interest in seeing gary oldman pretend to be churchill so ill go with this:
1. get out
2. phantom thread
3. lady bird
4. call me by your name
5. the post
6. 3 billboards
7. dunkirk
8. shape of water

darkest hour
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Rome

Alien: Covenant was awful.  It was boring, predictable and lame and the ending was actively insulting to anyone with an IQ over 50.  Just an embarrassment all around.

D- (and only because of one scene involving a Ripley homage).

I saw Get Out a while ago.  Fine but overrated.  Only reason it has the support it has is because Hollywood loves trying to be in tuned with narrative.  Jordan Peele makes a movie about how white Hollywood liberals are actually racist too so Hollywood wants to seem in so it has a best picture push.

This is the first year that none of the best picture nominees did that much for me of the ones I saw.  I didn't hate any of them.  I'd have given a positive review to Dunkirk, LB, Get Out but wasn't enthusiastic about any.  I liked 3 Billboards more than them but wasn't blown away.  I have no interest seeing Phantom Thread or CMBYN.  The Post I'd see but haven't gotten around to yet.  Shape of Water and Darkest Hour Id like to see.

call me by my name - a little long but masterful storytelling a great love story and an awesome landscape makes for a great movie where nothing happens and everything happens...again wish it was 20 minutes shorter but i really liked it

8/10

Rome

Unfunny and tedious.

Rockwell is a stunner.  He was great but Woodrow Tiberius Harrrlson was epic.

You do know that the Sixers are on...?
