why do people say this?  bonus points for staying true to the book.  if you want something that is exactly like the book, just read the farging book.

It just seems to be that if you're going to make a movie out of a good book, you might as well stay true to it.

My wife said the book was excellent, and she said the movie was a fair representation.

I didn't "want" something like the book, nor would I take the time to read a *chick* book.  My company occasionally has free movie nights set up at local movie theaters, so I took my pregnant wife to see a movie she wanted to see for free.  I guess that makes me totally a fag! !

I agree with this. And to add one, some people do the same thing on whether or not it was a "true" story.

What does something being "true" or true to the book, have anything do to with how good a movie is?

(Not counting documentarys)

seriously, there are some extremely good books that would make zesty ass movies if they didn't throw some special effects and side plots in.  and for a movie like the devil wears prada, i'm guessing any reason to throw in some nudity or explosions would have made it better.
