Anyone seen a good movie lately?

There's hundreds of great movies that were made before 1960.  An entire genre of films were made in the 1950's that set the tone for movies that came later in the 1970's.

Screwball comedies of the 1930s are classics that everyone should see.  The Thin Man series, for example, is great.

I could go on but why bother?  It's like anything else - if you're interested, do some research and find them for yourselves.

i have no doubt these movies were influential...and in their day ahead of their time...and for that they should be respected and i appreciate what they did and meant...but that doesnt make them watchable

Can we just take a second to laugh at BigEd for trying to engage IGY in the conversation about watching movies before he was born when IGY was clearly just baiting him and had no interest in Ed's responses?

i'd like to know why you think a movie is unwatchable when you're only reasoning is the era that it was filmed.

has nothing to do with the era...a movie isnt terrible because of the era its from...movies from old ass eras are just terrible

i judge all movies equally i cant help it if 60 year old movies all suck

i'll be the first to admit that the majority of older movies i've seen are hard to sit through.  they pale in comparison to more modern flicks.  times were much more simple 50-60+ years ago so the movies tended to be as well.  the writing, the acting and the overall production.  however, that still doesn't take away from some of the ones that have withstood the test of time.  a movie such as casablanca is a flat out great story regardless of when it was written/filmed.
