Anyone seen a good movie lately?

Tim Burton sucks, aside from Sweeney Todd everything else he's made is completely unwatchable.

I love Tim Burton sometimes and hate him others. Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands and Big Fish were excellent. I also sort of love Mars Attacks just because of how farging goofy it is. Sleepy Hollow, Planet of the Apes and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory can farging suck it.

Didn't even realize he was responsible for all those movies but they all blew and now I think he sucks even worse.

Big Fish was a good film.  Visually impressive, well-acted, interesting.  IMO, it never quite pulls together, probably because Billy Crudup is a toolbox chump, but it's definitely worth 2+ hours of your time.

sleepy hollow was a semi normal movie...it was basically a straight forward murder mystery...he didnt try and get cute or outsmart himself or make a pathetic attempt at being super different like in most of his movies

What is your issue with directors trying to do something different? I've heard you whine about this with Wes Anderson too.

You seem to equate being different with attempted intellectualism, in a severely negative way. Smart = bad. Movie conformity is boring, just like any other sort of conformity is boring.

99% of the time when an artist of any kind thinks they are smarter than everyone else they make horrible product

there are of course exceptions to the rule...charlie kaufman has made some really good shtein...but in general dont dare to be different because youre gonna look stupid doing it

but id rather truly enjoy what i like...which i do

where as you want to like stuff and you tell yourself stuff is great...and you tell others how something is so different and cool but deep down inside places you dont like to visit youre telling yourself damn these movies blow...and thats gotta be a horrible way to go thru life
