The April 6 Duke/Butler National Championship Game outdrew the Lakers/Magic NBA Finals by 69% in ratings and 67% in viewership. However, in the African American and Hispanic demographics, the ratings told a different story. Among African Americans, Lakers/Magic drew a 22.8 rating and 4.7 million viewers, topping Duke/Butler (15.4, 3.0 mil) by 48% and 57%, respectively. Meanwhile, among Hispanics, Lakers/Magic drew an 8.6 and 1.8 million, outdrawing Duke/Butler (5.7, 1.0 mil) by 51% and 78%, respectively. The two demographics made up 46% of the NBA Finals audience and 17% of the NCAA audience.

there is no way someone from the east coast doesnt like basketball unless they are scared and/or uncomfortable with the product they see on the court

it is the sport of the area and anyone who likes sports plays it growing up

but as for the whites being scared off in general, that had to start in the post-jordan era. the knicks/heat brawls, AI era that combined hip hop with the game, ensuing detroit brawl and fact that seemingly every superstar of the decade (shaq, kobe, lebron, AI, dwade) is either littered by tattoos, has a checkered past, has been arrested, is black, doesnt listen to rock music or country music, etc.

I've said a million times, and please, go back and find my posts if you care that much, that basketball is absolutely terrible to watch on television outside of the last couple minutes of a close game.

It's fun as hell to play, and was pretty much a daily after school thing for me and some friends at whatever park we went to that day, but sitting down to watch 10 people play basketball on television is about as close to torture as you can get. Unless the 76ers are in the playoffs and actually have a chance and I can jump on the local team bandwagon, watching it is incredibly boring.
