this isnt about them...i had never heard of these guys until this thread...i couldnt care less about them

i post because as that other cat said
what has america become
when we care more about friggin imus
these two clowns
and jericho going off the air
than we do the erosion of real civil rights
our president and his oligarchy lying their way into invasion
torture
ect

and i just laugh when excitable kids like ff get all indignant and act like this is some serious free speech issue

its amazing to me

i love bill maher...he got fired from politically incorrect...he didnt apologize...he didnt cry and whine about free speech...he went to HBO where they allow him to say pretty much anything he wants on his show now...to me thats what america is all about
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

You calling someone else excitable is, obviously, amusing.

Also, O&A did make a similar move to Bill Maher after they got fired from commercial radio going to satellite.  The fact that they aren't even afforded the opportunity to speak their minds on XM is concerning.  Satellite radio was the last bastion of free speech on the airwaves.

While I agree with much of IGY's rant, I actually draw a fairly direct correlation between the current 'oligarchy' and the erosion of free speech. Free speech is included in our civil liberties and while this particular instance isn't directly governmentally related, the general movement towards censorship in this country is certainly part of the bigger problem.

aren't they all serious free speech issues.

you never just wake up one day in a censored society, it happens over time with many small events

The good news is we'll have a plethora of choices for President in '08 that are all about personal freedoms.

ice grillin you

we should be discussing the plight of the black man

or in your case the eradication of the black man

aren't they all serious free speech issues.

no

you never just wake up one day in a censored society, it happens over time with many small events

agreed but again opie and anthony is not a free speech issue much less a serious one...disobey your boss enough times and youll be 'censored' as well....the fact that they are radio hosts doesnt make them special or make this a free speech issue

and i would contend that when society gives to much attention to issues like this and imus we overlook the important events (both big and small) and that over time will catch up with us (ie the patriot act)

its unfathomable how imus got more attention over two weeks than the passage of the patriot act has gotten in five years....the wire tapping....the library book checks ect...ect...ect...thats the stuff we need to worry about not opie and anthony purposely pissing off their boss...for all we know they did it to imporve their ratings....and thats a serious free speech issue??

this isn't even a free speech issue.  xm told them not to talk about it anymore, and then they did anyway.  why should they not be punished?  this has nothing o do with government censoring.  if my boss told me not to take a shtein on the floor and then i did, i'd be punished.

Shockingly enough...

CBS plans to continue to air O&A during their suspension from XM

Their ratings probably will go up and sponsers aren't dropping them so capitalism is winning this scenario.

this is right...however you can take it one step further and the reason they disobeyed their bosses is because of an issue that arose from something that came up on thier uncensored XM show.  they were forced to apologize and not talk about something that arose from the continued over scrutiny of what's on the radio.

it should've never been an issue where they were in the position to be told not to talk about a certain subject on the air.
