PSU, #4 in the BCS.  What is the #2 BCS Bowl this year?  I would hope it's not the Orange Bowl.  It would not be fair to stick Penn State with Miami in their home town.  Maybe the Fiesta Bowl?

I'm kinda hoping they play LSU...i think that'd be a better matchup.

Loss to Michigan is even more painful now.

Of course if they choke against MSU this weekend it won't matter, but still. farging last play of the game.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

Does the fact that Michigan is ranked now increase Penn State's BCS standing at all?

They can't let that happen this year.  They need to show up and lay 56 points on them.  Would PSU be #3 if they had beat Michigan?

Yes they would, but at least then I could gripe about how they deserved to be in the championship game.

I refuse to bitch about the last minute TD, my gripe is with Lloyd Carr and his whiney bitch tactics. :02 seconds my ass.

MSU has no shot this week.

I like Michigan State. They suck, their fans eat big sandwiches and they wear green.

Sounds like PSU got a 4-star TE from New York to commit, though it isn't official yet...

QuoteLions have shot at Rose Bowl

With a loss by either Southern Cal or Texas, Penn State could vault to No. 2.

By Frank Fitzpatrick

Typically, the BCS formula is so inherently complex that you need to be either a statistical geek or Beano Cook to comprehend it.

But for all those Penn State fans desperately concocting scenarios that might land the Nittany Lions in the BCS championship game, the reality might be quite simple:

If they beat Michigan State on Saturday and either Southern Cal or Texas loses one of their remaining games, the Nittany Lions might have a shot.

"Because of strength of schedule and their strength in the computer rankings, Penn State could well be the top one-loss team," Jerry Palm, a BCS expert who operates the Web site, CollegeBCS.com, said yesterday.

Currently, 9-1 Penn State is ranked No. 5 in the polls and No. 4, trailing only unbeaten Texas, USC and 9-1 Miami, in the BCS standings.

"But I think that even if they finish behind Miami in the polls, they could jump ahead of them," Palm said.

In short, the BCS standings are a composite ranking from three sources - six different computer programs, the point totals in the Harris Poll, and the point totals in the Coaches Poll.

Of those six computer rankings, though, the high and low for each team is thrown out. That, according to Palm, makes the BCS standings more dependent on poll results. And poll voters have a tendency to put a great deal of weight on late-season losses.

"It's all so poll-driven now that if you lose a game late, you're probably going to the back of the back," said Palm.

Still, BCS history suggests it's unlikely that anyone but Texas and Southern Cal will be meeting in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 4.

In the BCS system's seven seasons, only one of the 12 unbeaten teams that occupied the standings' top two positions with three weeks remaining failed to play in the national-championship game - UCLA in 1998.

Here are the BCS contenders' remaining schedules:

Southern Cal (.9829 BCS average): vs. Fresno State, Saturday; vs. UCLA, Dec. 3.

Texas (.9771): at Texas A&M, Nov. 25; vs. either Colorado, Missouri or Iowa State in the Big Twelve Championship, Dec. 3 in Houston.

Miami (.8906): vs. Georgia Tech, Saturday; vs. Virginia, Nov. 26.

Penn State (.8520): at Michigan State on Saturday.

LSU (.8224): at Mississippi, Saturday; vs. Arkansas, Nov. 25; possible SEC Championship, Dec. 3 in Atlanta.

it's the shame the Big 12 is such a garbage conference, otherwise their might be some optimisim that Texas could trip up in the Big 12 championship game
