No moreso than the collection of chemicals you'd find in an avid gearhead's garage, or a darkroom.  I fail to see how the photography hobbyist with the darkroom, or the gearhead hobbyist with the garage full of chemicals, are okay but the scientist, well that's a no-no?

Judging by the paper that's what they said about what was in there, but I see your point. I guess the stereotype with chemists is white lab coat and shtein that explodes. I bought into it.

Because gearheads who don't dispose of the oil correctly do a lot of harm too.

Anyways, the question of where I'd move?

South America. (duh.)

why is this guy being harassed?

Because we live in a reactionary alarmist society that is convinced that it's more important to protect ourselves than it is to let people live their private lives and pursue their private interests..

No, because when this guy (your neighbor) "is on to something", and in a senior moment has an "oops" that levels his house, blows out all your windows and puts you in the hospital, you are going to be pretty pissed off that there is no one left alive to pay your bills.

OK, so on the off chance that maybe something happens this guy's privacy should be pre-emptively revoked? farg off.

Did you RTFA?  Firefighters in the house putting out a fire found the shtein, and reported him.  It isn't like they set up a raid based on a rumor.  There are laws governing the use and storage of dangerous chemicals, and what this guy had looked suspicious.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

I RTfirstpartofTFA but not the part about how it was reported. I still don't like it but at least that makes a little sense. Your point about whining and moaning when he blows his shtein up though still doesn't ring true to me.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.
