I wouldn't mind him. But he's going to cost a lot.

I think that Tripplett may cost not much less than Bernard.

Tripplett was an active beast for Indy last year.  He's young and on the upside of his career, too.

When I was watching the Colts' interior line to see how Simon was (or wasn't) doing last year, Tripplett always stood out as the most disruptive force.  He was the one drawing double teams more often than not.

His numbers aren't amazing, but I don't think he was even a starter, and he did have 4 sacks.  I'm just unimpressed with Bernard... he's not as disruptive play in and play out.

Gimme Tripplett, or Pickett.

FULLBACK

WHAT THE MARKET BEARS: The best in the business is out there at this moment -- Seattle's Mack Strong. Who knows if he'll actually make it to 12:01 a.m., or how long he'll last after that.

Another big name is Fred Beasley from San Francisco. He's a proven player at the position.

I would love it if the Eagles could snag Mack Strong.

OFFENSIVE LINE

This is a very interesting situation with a lot of question marks. Jon Runyan is poised to be an unrestricted free agent and the Eagles have made no indication that they want to re-sign him. So if Runyan leaves, there will be a ripple effect up front.

WHAT THE MARKET BEARS: It's unusual that top-rate talent reaches free agency on the offensive line, but two of the best are out there. LeCharles Bentley has made the Pro Bowl at both guard and center and is an unrestricted free agent. Steve Hutchinson has a transition tag from Seattle and will be tough to pry loose. Atlanta's Kevin Shaffer heads a so-so group of tackles.

Just what we thought here, probably.  If Bentley really is added, that's probably it.  And Runyan's gone.

TIGHT END

WHAT THE MARKET BEARS: Maybe the most attractive name is a player who was released by Denver -- Jeb Putzier. He is looking for a starting job somewhere. Another tight end to consider is Chris Baker, who is more of a blocking tight end.

Chris Baker would be an excellent addition.

WIDE RECEIVER

(Brown is #1, need to figure out who's #2, etc)

WHAT THE MARKET BEARS: Pittsburgh's Antwaan Randle-El and New England's David Givens are the best of the bunch and both figure to garner a lot of attention. Veteran Joe Jurevicious is ready to be a free agent as well, but most experts think he'll be back in Seattle for 2006.

I'd be more than happy with either of those guys.  Actually would probably prefer Givens.

DEFENSIVE LINE

DE Trent Cole is a cornerstone of the D line
Second-year men Mike Patterson and Trent Cole are the foundation players here after promising rookie seasons. The Eagles have some players along with the kids, but do they have enough?

WHAT THE MARKET BEARS: Some of the big-name ends will get some attention. John Abraham has a franchise tag from the Jets, but he's likely to be traded. Darren Howard had an injury-riddled season for the Saints last year. Aaron Kampman is a priority re-signing by the Packers. Good quality at the top and some solid mid-level ends give this position some oomph in free agency.

No mention of any free agent DT's?  Yikes.

LINEBACKER

(current starters would be Trotter, Jones, and Barber, with McCoy competing and Simoneau a backup)

WHAT THE MARKET BEARS: Julian Peterson and LaVar Arrington are the two biggest names, and Carolina's Will Witherspoon is a quality player. Middle-level players like Ben Leber make this a pretty good group overall.

I just hope that means they actually sign someone else there.
