I think they didn't pursue a "biggish" back, because they don't value them at all, not because they thought they were set at that position with Buckhalter.  They went with Moats, because he has the possibility of being a gamebreaker.

Basically, I'm saying it's their overall philosophy that should be questioned, and not their reliance on Buckhalter.

Besides, Gordon has actually looked pretty good, but he's not getting the ball anyway.

They've always had room for a decent-sized back. Duce, Dorsey Levens, Buck, Gordon, but I think they were dumb depending on Buck to get healthy when he's had injury problems. Maybe Gordon's not getting his chances because he doesn't know the offense that well yet. I'd prefer to see us cut our losses with Buck and draft/sign/draft and sign a "biggish" tailback in the offseason.

Of course, we'll probably never know.  What's the point of a change-of-pace back when running itself is simply for a change-of-pace?  What's the point of a goalline back if you prefer to pass in the red zone?

I'm pretty sure that Buck's career is over.  No harm in letting the guy attempt to rehab under the Eagles' watch.  He's not costing anything against the salary cap this year.  As for getting a "biggish" tailback, I think that they will.  If they can get Gordon going a little down the stretch, he might be interested in hanging around for fairly cheap.  If not, who knows?  Besides, if they can't sign Westbrook, they'll could very well go after a Shaun Alexander or Edgerrin James.

Then again, they'll basically have no choice but to go cheap or get someone in the draft if they continue to only run 30% of the time or so.  It's like a pitcher wanting to go to the Rockies (or Phillies for that matter).

Yeah, I know we pass all the time, but it has been even more this year, I think, because of personnel at running back, not due to any philosophical shift.

Dorsey = injury fill-in who Reid knew and was comfortable with
Gordon = best of the scrap heap

The only "big back" Reid can really take credit for is Buck and even then he really didn't draft him - Modrak did.

Reid's RBs are pass receivers first and runners second. The faster that is realized the less disappointed you'll be.

I'd like a bigger back too. But even if we had one is Reid going to run it a ton? Nope.
