The run call stems from Holmgren's self-scouting. "My pass-run ratio at this down and distance is 90-to-10, pass-to-run," he says. "So I made a note on my game call sheet during the week to call some running plays in these situations. You have to have key breakers and tendency breakers installed in your game plan or you become too predictable."

Something else, too. After the run fails, he tells his coaches he doesn't want to use the play again the rest of the year.
