Full Stanley Havili News Wire
Overview
Teams are always looking for versatile ballcarriers capable of contributing as blockers and receivers out of the backfield. With the Trojans' stable of capable backs, Havili wasn't used often as a runner, rushing for only 519 yards over his career despite averaging a gaudy 6.4 yards per attempt.

His ability to surprise defenses as an occasional runner and receiver (116 career receptions) is precisely why Havili rates as one of the more intriguing pro-style fullback prospects in some time.

Analysis
Positives: Good overall athleticism for the position. Powerful runner who keeps his shoulder pads low, body lean forward and legs churning for the tough yards. Hits the hole quickly, though he flashes the vision and lateral agility to bounce it outside. Has a natural low center of gravity. Uses an effective stiff-arm to keep defenders away from his legs. Finishes his runs. Possesses the light feet to pick his way through a hole and gain yardage in chunks when given the opportunity. Possesses soft hands and good hand-eye coordination to adjust to the ball. Secures it quickly and looks to get upfield. Takes on pass rushers with his knees bent and shoulders square. Provides a good initial pop and has the balance and lateral agility to mirror the pass rusher.

Negatives: A bit of a 'tweener. Lacks the bulk and physicality teams prefer in a traditional fullback, and the agility and straight-line speed to beat NFL defenses outside as a big running back. Aggressively pops the linebacker in the hole, but too often lunges at the defender and is unable to sustain his blocks for long. Senior season is the only one of his career in which he did not miss time due to injury, including most of the 2006 season due to a broken left leg.

Some character issues and injury concerns.  When healthy he's solid.  Great receiver.

Who hasn't had  a shoulder injury. In fact, you're not a football player unless you've been injured. Takes a man to stay at fullback with an injury like this.

I love this pick.  Still can't believe he lasted until this late in the draft.
