I'd load 'em all up in a paddy wagon and move them out and deal with the repercussions later of forcibly moving them. Because when they need to be rescued and officers and rescue personnel die from getting their stupid asses out of harms way it is really angering.

I can sympathize with this attitude, but only so far.  Basically, I don't think the state has (or should have) the right to force you to leave an area based on weather reports or conditions.

By the same token, I don't believe the state has a duty to rescue anyone who loiters about in deadly conditions.

I would prefer we tell them, "you're on your own if you stay, we will not be saving anyone during the storm.  We will also not be tearing our hair out to search for survivors immediately after the storm.  Priority will be given to clearing roads, putting power lines up, and restoring civil order.  When we've got a handle on that, maybe we'll bail your ass out."

I agree with Dio on this.  Unless a person is mentally incompetent to make this decision (and hopefully that will have already been taken care of by family or someone), if a person chooses to stay, let him.  However, he forfeits any services related to the storm until higher priorities have been taken care of.

Me too. People are stupid. You watch the thing on TV, and think, why would anyone be dumb enough to try and ride that thing out? When there house is floating away, what do they think they are going to do, tie a rope around it and save it by holding on?

looks like Moody Gardens in Galveston survived because of being shaped like a pyramid, they didnt take wind on directly, unlike the JP Morgan building in Houston which got demolished.

Yep, thats real. Thats by the Sea Wall...

Houston has cleaned up nicely from what little I saw today. Trees have been trimmed and stacked by the curbs. Electric is slowly coming back for everyone and running water is on.

I only saw a small part today though. Tomorrow I will go down south and see what it looks like.

So, let the dopes who sit in a storm die, but let's provide insurance coverage for a smoker who gets cancer.  :sly
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

I think Drunk Drivers should be rewarded

and my cousins house in Houston, got hit by a tornado.  The house is kind of twisted, or Torqued as they were saying.  Its safe to live in, but needs major work apparently.  My aunt lives in Taylor Lake Village which apparently got slammed, for some reason, her yard and house were fine, but the rest of her street really got messed up.

Oh, I got killed in a thread about healthcare because I dared suggest such an inhumane thing.
