My IT guy just told me this morning we use Lotus because it's supposedly virus proof, being a database rather than email. Is this true, and what the hell does that mean anyway?

That's sort of Bullshtein.

Yeah look up the sequel slammer virus. Took advantage of SQL data base. That said the application is so bad there is no need to write a virus for it as it is practically a virus in and of itself...

MURP, I have no idea what happened to your e-mails. It might depend on how you have OE set. It's quite possible that it totally deleted the old mail.

IGY, unfortunately there are way too many things between this board and your computer to really know what's going on with notification. I'll check around if G_F doesn't get to it, but I can't promise anything for sure.

In answer is most assuredly gremlins.

Maybe...and if you're lucky, you won't get a flood of e-mails.   :-X

kinda off topic...but murp can you tell me why i went away for a week and when i came back the board no longer notifies me via email of threads replies

your email server may have blocked the address and considered it spam considering if you didnt access it for 10 days, there could have been hundreds of emails that could have exceeded your given mailbox space.

Connection Problems

Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

That's what I'm thinking.

BTW, I just turned on notification for me, and I just got the notification e-mail. So the board is most likely working properly. IGY, you should check your netstuff at work...like Windspan says, they're possibly filtering it out.

i use my personal comcast account for this board....is there something within that i should look at?

Now do you get your e-mail from your Comcast account? Do you use a specific mail program, or do you check your e-mail via the Comcast website?

Check your spam settings:

https://acctmgt.comcast.net/Comcast/AcctMgt/changespamfilter.cmd

You obviously still want the spam filter on, but if you have it set to not save a copy, and Comcast is filtering it, it's probably getting deleted rather than being put in the filtered mail folder.

well after spending quite some time looking at how to extract and import the compacted files it seems the files really dont exist anymore.  OH well.  I switched to Mozilla Thunderbird.  Hope that one is better.
