The adoption laws in the U.S. are farged.  I've never understood why anyone would adopt in spite of them.  The one adoption I was close to ended badly because the zesty mother started fighting to get the kid back.  Gave whole new meaning to "no good deed goes unpunished."

We have friends who had gone through the entire adoption process for a newborn, even getting to meet the child in the delivery room.  Unfortunately, the birth mother had a last-minute change of heart and decided to keep the child.  Understandable on her end, but heartbreaking on the end of our friends.

My wife and I have talked about adoption.  We're not sure which direction to take, but we've talked about a girl from China, or possibly an older child.  Right now, we're just trying to survive my son's toddlerhood.  :D

Not that i'm adopting a complete stranger, but i am trying to adopt my wife's daughter and we are having a hell of a time with her father.  He's never seen her, never cared to ask about her or anything.  Yet, when my wife tried to get him to sign away his rights, he balked and told her to farg off basically.  In another country, they'd probably tell him tough luck and take his rights away.  It's just stupid the way things work.  He hasn't cared for almost 4 years, yet he gets to make our lives miserable by not giving up his rights.

Does he pay child support?  If so, then unfortunately you won't have much of a case even if he's not actively participating in the kid's life.  But if he doesn't pay anything and doesn't come around then you might have a case.

I too desire a victory over the taterskins by the Eagles and some disgustingly pornographic gonzo sex from your ladyfriend.
