Title: Week One - 2023
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on September 05, 2023, 02:16:10 PM
The time has arrived. Six months has flown by and kick off week is here. Some news just breaking that Travis Kelce has hyperextended his knee and is being examined and his status for Thursday is unknown.

Maybe tomorrow!

im looking at your picks from last year:
afc east/north nailed
afc west got kc/lac wrong but lv/den right
afc south was off
4/7 playoff teams, 2/4 division winners, 3/4 divisional teams...but bills/chargers was not the afcccg

nfc east nailed, south messed up 2/3rd place
nfc north/west were off
5/7 playoff teams, 1/4 divisional....but the packers and the rams didnt even make the playoffs

called sauce gardner droy and matt rhule being fired. i guess you get credit for the most obvious things in the world.

decent regular season calls but couldnt hack it when it counted. gotta do a better job. lets go.

"the Kansas City Chiefs believe All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce's ACL is intact" - not exactly a ringing endorsement for him playing on Thursday

Mahomes may have some heavy lifting to do.  They're counting on Toney to become something he's never shown...skills to pay the #1 WR bills.  And he's hurt, too.

As much as I think Reid is a zesty parent, he dragged McNabb to four straight NFCCGs while having him throw to Todd Pinkston and Chad Lewis. One legged Kelce or not, pencil the Chiefs in for the AFCCG until they actually lose on the playoffs.
Title: Re: Week One - 2023
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on September 07, 2023, 06:54:52 PM
Kelce is out tonight

Onto the predictions. A lot of tough calls this season!

AFC East

1. Buffalo
2. New York
3. Miami
4. New England

Is the Jets hype real? Maybe somewhat. But to be claiming the defense is like the 85 Bears? Blasphemy. I think they'll be good but the Bills stay atop the division. But the Bills better do something because their staying power is wilting a bit. Miami could be in the WC mix too. Pats? Most of those fans up there are experiencing suck for the first time. Because you know they weren't fans during the pre-Brady days.

AFC North

1. Cincinnati
2. Baltimore
3. Pittsburgh
4. Cleveland

Another hard one to pick. Pittsburgh is going to be decent. Anyone else sick of Baltimore and Harbaugh? I am. But they have some weapons at receiver now. Weaknesses in the secondary keep them behind Cincy. Would not be shocked if they finished behind Pittsburgh. Cleveland is bringing up the rear because Watson hasn't shown anything close to being what he was prior to his creep days.

AFC South

1. Jacksonville
2. Tennessee
3. Indianapolis
4. Houston

Doug and Trevor are the class of this division. Which isn't hard to do. Tennessee's QB situation could hinder them. I'm rooting for Steichen to do well for Indy but can Richardson be that guy? I probably would've gone with Minshew for awhile. Ryans is the guy for Houston and maybe Stroud is too. But too early for them. I like their safety Pitre and a few other pieces they have.

AFC West

1. Kansas City
2. Los Angeles
3. Denver
4. Las Vegas

The Chiefs remain on top despite some cracks in the foundation with Jones and Kelce and the energy it takes to be so good for so long. But they stay until knocked off. Can Herbert do it? I know they better or else Staley is gone. Can Payton revive Wilson? Not sure. They'll be better but not good enough. Vegas is a poverty franchise.

AFC PLAYOFFS

Chiefs
Bengals
Bills
Jaguars
Chargers
Ravens
Jets

Bengals over Jets
Bills over Ravens
Chargers over Jaguars

Chargers over Chiefs
Bengals over Bills

Bengals over Chargers

NFC East

1. Philadelphia
2. Dallas
3. New York
4. Washington

The Eagles schedule is hard. If they can make it through that gauntlet they're set up nicely. Dallas has to rely on Dak and his picks and McCarthy and his playcalling. Washington is on the come up but is Sam Howell that guy? Likely not. So they remain behind the Giants. Who still have that goofball turnover machine at QB.

NFC North

1. Minnesota
2. Detroit
3. Green Bay
4. Chicago

Another tough one to pick because of the hype trains. Green Bay is the only one not getting pumped up by fans and media. Chicago is getting love but is it worthy? Lions have been pimped the entire off season but can they put it together? They still have Goff. Minny with Cuzzo and JJ along with Flores running their defense sets them up top for me.

NFC South

1. New Orleans
2. Atlanta
3. Carolina
4. Tampa Bay

I think Carr landed in a good spot for him. The Saints could be pretty good. If Ridder is half decent the Falcons have some weapons. Did someone tell The FedEx Heir that Kyle Pitts is on his team over the off season? The Bucs are going to probably challenge the Cards for the top pick.

NFC West

1. Seattle
2. San Francisco
3. Los Angeles
4. Arizona

Total wish pick but rooted in some logic. I'm not sold on Purdy. Could he be legit? Maybe. But he was a 7th rounder for a reason and teams have film on him. Plus I want SF to fail. Geno has some good weapons and if he plays like he did last season they could unseat SF. Rams stink. So do the Cards. But while I want Gannon to be embarrassed ideally they win enough to miss the top pick. Or Caleb Williams says farg off and stays in school.

NFC PLAYOFFS

Eagles
Vikings
Saints
Seahawks
Niners
Cowboys
Lions

Lions over Vikings
Saints over Cowboys
Niners over Seahawks

Eagles over Lions
Niners over Saints

Eagles over Niners

SUPER BOWL

Philadelphia Eagles over Cincinnati Bengals

MVP - Jalen Hurts
OPOY - JaMar Chase
DPOY - Myles Garrett
OROY - Bijan Robinson
DROY - Jalen Carter
COY - Nick Sirianni
Comeback Player - Damar Hamlin

Coaches Fired - Not sure if we see any in season firings but the leaders to get whacked would be Kevin Stefanski, Ron Rivera and Todd Bowles.

What in the world, Andy.

He goes for it on 4th and 20 with the two min warning and three timeouts.

Finally a false start on the RT is called. Saves Andy from going for it right?

Nope. He still goes.

And they almost converted. Chiefs have had a million drops tonight.

Wow

it was the right call, they shouldve gone for it on the previous 4th down too

they shouldve tried to catch a ball or two. womp womp kc
Title: Re: Week One - 2023
Post by: QB Eagles on September 07, 2023, 11:29:57 PM
It was a super arrogant play call. Reid doesn't do that without a couple Lombardis in his pocket. 4th and a mile on your end of the field, down 1, with over 2 minutes and a full complement of timeouts. That's where you gotta put it on your defense, even if your QB is Mahomes and your defense is the Chiefs defense.
Title: Re: Week One - 2023
Post by: MDS on September 07, 2023, 11:33:46 PM
if i had mahomes id basically never punt

im not sure of the math, but in that spot giving up a 1st ends the game. ok. so you get a stop with a TOD, a missed fg, or they hit the fg and you are down 4 with 100 seconds left. you punt, get a stop, they punt, its 100 seconds and the length of the field down 1.

the stop % there was low enough and mahomes is good enough that im rollin it with
Title: Re: Week One - 2023
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on September 07, 2023, 11:36:15 PM
Even if he was thinking

The Lions score and we get the ball back to win (assuming a FG by DET) — what happens if they score a TD? 28-20 and now you drive the field to score a TD and have to get a two to force OT. That is dumb.

You punt and hope the Lions blow it and can't convert and punt it back. Then you let Mahomes do his thing and Butker wins it 23-21
Title: Re: Week One - 2023
Post by: MDS on September 07, 2023, 11:49:57 PM
in that spot there was 1 set of downs left, so the td didnt matter. i thought it was worth it on the previous 4th down, which was 3yds with about 5 mins left. the td was in play there.

punting is basically like bunting to me. dont do it unless you really need to.

I used the Ravens in the bullet survivor but Seattle in the one where a loss doesn't disqualify you.

Minny and Cincy had John Q Public's bets - their ticket percentage was high. But the bigger money we're on the dogs. I look for reverse line movement and percentages when considering bets.

I got through my survivor with Baltimore also.

You got a problem if you went anywhere near that Rams-Seahawks game, the line was fishy as hell to me. Massive overreaction to last season. Seattle isn't that good and the Rams isn't that bad. 49ers will curb stomp that whole division easily.
