This was going to be our (wifey and me) 32nd anny trip. We got married the day before the Eagles/Niners game in 1989 and went to the game on our first day of our honeymoon.
Still the greatest beating I've ever seen an Eagles defense mete out, yet Montana still destroyed them in the fourth quarter despite being sacked a mind-boggling eight times.
God he was great.
Anyway, no trip thanks to Covid.
Jason Verrett injured today, ACL tear suspected. Eagles will be facing a soft SF back field.
SF opens -4...mad disrespect

Izell Jenkins roast game right?

That's a shame. He's never been able to stay healthy. He's a really good corner.
The Niners DC: DeMeco Ryans
OK now I feel old.
That 1989 game was incredible, birds looked great and then Montana woke up in the second half. wasn't it John Taylor who ate Izell Jenkins for lunch? Still shocked the Niners won that game by 10 points.
Yeah, Birds had an 11 point lead halfway through the 4th but Montana threw 4 TDs in the quarter and that was that. IIRC it turned when the Eagles got a particularly bad spot on a 3rd down, so much so that Keith Byars called it out in the post game presser, which even back then was uncommon. But in reality, Buddy and the rest of the league just hadn't realized that SFs WCO was the perfect kryptonite for the 46 defense, much the same way that little more than a decade later, the league (all except for Andy) realized the Tampa-2 was he perfect counter to the WCO.

It was on a Calvin Williams catch. The spot was terrible but the measurement showed they still got the 1st down. I think it was Byars in the the pgp that said "even after the measurement we thought we had it but when they pulled the chains up they said it was short." I remember watching it on tv and the measurement showed they had it too.
RIP Mostert
San Fran added Kerryon Johnson.
I was in Disney for the Detmer game. Watched at espn zone. One of the more fun regular season eagles games that I remember.
I'm still giddy form the 1994 game in Candlestick when Birds beat the shtein out of Steve Young (Ginger of all Gingers Andy Harmon rocked him), Siefert pulled him early knowing it was over and trying to save Young's life, and Charlie Garner looked like Barry Sanders. Wasn't the final 40-8?
the last 3 times the 49ers were in philly
- cj breathard in the rain blowout
- ronnie brown pass
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvXNjfXbUaQ&ab_channel=SimPull
The Detmer/Feeley game was something else.
As was the 40-8 game. Loved Charlie Garner!
Ronnie Brown's fumble was precursor to one of the worst days in Philadelphia sports history as cliff Lee blew the 4-0 lead in game 2 of NLDS to Cardinals. Phils would have been up 2 games to none.
That 40-8 game probably did more to ensure SF winning the Super Bowl that year and getting Steve Young to Canton than anything else.
I still remember Young screaming at Seifert on the sidelines over getting the hook. That was one pissed off Mormon.
They steamrolled the league after that game. But for that one game the Eagles pulverized them.
Stupid TV schedule this week means my area gets HOU vs CLE only in the early slot.
I'll have to stream.
generally markets avoid competition with the local game if they can...pretty standard
the eagles game to my naked eye looks like its going to the most markets at 1:00 and perhaps overall. not sure why they put burkhardt/olson on tampa/atlanta
I've got Merrill on this one. Going to be on the road somewhere around Spokane.
Not a particularly impressive slate of games but some Week 1 bubbles are gonna burst. Let's hope our boys aren't one of them.
Second week running I get the game. That makes me happy.
It's a low bar.
Speaking of low bars, what ever happened to TRUCKRATHMAN, the niner dude that used to talk all the shtein on here?
Probably found facebook like everyone else.
What? Who?
No idea, I'm just sitting here on google plus waiting for you guys to show up.
49ers' starting weakside linebacker Dre Greenlaw out for this game and several more with a groin injury.
Just got 2 freebies for Sunday. Honestly can't remember the last game I attended.
Starting LCB Emmanuel Moseley is listed doubtful as well.
With a head of steam, home field, 49er injuries...only one game of tape for opposition to analyze...you have to like the Eagles chances.
I like the Birds offense against their defense. Film will help them some against Hurts and the overall Sirianni scheme but in the 49ers depleted form they have no real means of protection against Smith who is a route running Picasso. He's the real deal. Up to the rest of the offense to get him catchable balls. Hurts is going to have to throw downfield more, and accurately, and the line will have to give him time to do so.
49ers offense is a whole different animal from the Falcons though. That's going to be the main problem I think. The Eagles aren't going to be getting the same pressure rushing four against that beast of an offensive line. Plus Juszczyk. Plus Kittle if they need even more blocking help (unlikely). Speaking of Kittle, he will be roaming free among the Eagles LBs.
I'm skipping a street fair I normally attend (and used to run) in order to watch this game.
I will likely regret the decision, but I can't really help it.
I think the Eagles have a good chance to steal a win here. It'll be a few weeks before there's enough footage of the new program for opposition coaches to fully plan for it. San Fran had to fly, Eagles fans are high on Hurts Smith et. all, injuries....I have hopes.
Now, for them to be dashed...
Good day to be 2-0, boys.
Birds 27
Niners 17
the stupid military flyover thing just went over my house
legggoooooo birds
I've got a stream going.
Siposs is good. So is Chachere. Dumb play by McPherson.
Also RedZone is frozen. No bueno.
i dont understand their playcalling....coming out trying to run it down their throat when SF is missing their corners
go after josh norman

colts somehow failed to score with a 1st and goal...tua in a cart
eagles draft watch is ON
farg. Should have hit Goddert there, Jalen. Take what they give you, young man.
2 drives in looks like all the league needed was a little tape to figure out nicky boy
49ers are on em
We might have a football team here guys.

Frank and Bitchmade just failed again. Had a shovel pass picked off at the goal line.
farg Wentz.
A lot of running up the middle today. Bad call on third
And a blocked FG farg
Brooks was hurt too
sirianni is calling this game like a bitch
3rd and 1 dive was stupid
Sounds like Brooks is done. Heading inside holding his shoulder
i told nick to get aggressive and he did and look what happened
make me coach
This Quez Watkins guy might be pretty good.
What a sequence.
Complete a 91yd pass and don't score.
Brutal.
pure welcome to the nfl moment for sirianni...getting demolished by shanahan and ryans
I'm glad they went for it on 4th down, but boy was that a bad batch of plays they picked down there.
Seen some bad play calls in our years but that was pure garbage
Still feels like Niners D line is dominating our dinosaurs
TD called back
Blocked fg
First and goal after 90 yard gain produces 0
That is bad stuff
This one is turning sour now.
Might as well just screen pass your way down the field if they're never going to stop it.
Looks like our boy Singleton missing a lot of tackles last few series
Sounds like BG has an Achilles injury and Brooks a pec

Brooks was inevitable. Looked like he got hurt just standing there
That was some ass defense there.
This is farging inexcusable to let the Niners score here but also not to be up by two scores minimum

we'll always have the falcons game

What a farging half.
Should be up 17-0
Yeah, but it turns out that bad teams don't actually score much when they're in position to.
Yeah we'll see.
Eagles score again?
7-3 feels like 21-3
I don't like Reagor as PR.
I'm a big fan of this whole "run a bunch and get some first downs" thing they're going for.
Rookie guard got pushed around there. I'm sure he was mentally prepared to play though, when you're Brooks back up you know you're going in long term at any second.

Depressing watching this but then I went to look at the schedule the next five weeks and got more depressed

Crowd never came back out from halftime. Most probably still regurgitating in the restrooms after that first and goal travesty.
Remember Ronnie Brown!!
The illusion of being a decent team for a week was nice. Now back to your regularly scheduled draft watch.
Debo exposing how slow birds defense is. Even Jimmy G. Birds defense is done today fellas.
49ers are better but theyre right in this game if sirianni doesnt come out with such a rancid gameplan
You're right Dio there's a shtein load of red jerseys in that crowd also lots of white niners Jersey's! what the farg with that???
Goodnight Irene.
shtein offense.
shtein playcalling.
And two mile long TD drives allowed
Why bother overturning that call...anyone doubt the next play is a TD?
Exactly why overturn it? so it's second down on the 1 inch line and this team is just blowing up the birds on both sides of the ball
Defense ok, weaknesses still exposed, secondary is still garbage, but hey 14 points, not bad. Play calling and entire offense has been very weak. One big play and that's it.
And what the farg first pass to a tight end, Throwaway to Ertz in end zone didn't count
Jesus, Sanders hands of stone
o line punked by a 4 man rush
big yikes
Buckle up guys the next five weeks are going to be farging disgusting.
Only a fumble or interception will stop this now.
SF about to salt it away unless the D can make a game changing play.
92 and 97 yard drives allowed by the defense
Offense shteinting themselves in the red zone
The farging Lions put up 33 last weekend. And yet he we are.
Ballgame.
And that's why Barnett ain't coming back after his rookie deal expires.
Ball not bouncing their way and this farging defense couldn't make an interception if the ball was handed to them and gift wrapped
And here is farging knucklehead Barnett with his first stupid penalty of the year
Wentz hurt his ankle. Goodbye draft pick
what does it take to get a goddamn replay?

Another zesty smartest man in the room pick
He's not that bad actually...maybe not a first round talent but def. NFL player....trouble is he is guaranteed to draw three or four 15 yard/borderline ejection penalties every year.
Wentz!! Oh oh!
I've been flipping back-and-forth he's actually played well today against the Rams
At the game just saw the fumble penalty nobody in the stands knows what happened. Anyone?
bad call on that penalty...how is Wallace supposed to not hit the runner in the head once the player is tripped up?

j where you at
Did this clown announcer just say we now have a ball game? Where in the hell has he been? He's had a front row seat watching the Niners manhandle the birds the last 2 1/2 quarters
I can't stand Mark Schlereth's voice
Schlereth has sucked all game. He comes across as a know it all
This fullback has killed the birds all day!! Cannot one of these sloth, undersized linebackers cover the guy?
First motherfarger that says nice come back attempt gets a shovel to the nuts
eagles lose and wentz gets hurt
go team
How many blitzes has Gannon called? The front four has for the most part not gotten into Jimmy G.'s space...the 2nd down pass to their fullback just before that QB sneak was the chance to stymie SF...but Jimmy G. had all day...

This isn't like you J, you're usually an optimist. It's only week 2 so I don't think Graham is necessarily done for the year. If he works hard and gets a bit lucky in his rehab he could be back in time for the SB.
well at least the dolphins lost
QuoteTwo games in and the Eagles still don't have a takeaway, continuing a disturbing trend of the last three years. Last week Darius Slay had a good shot at an interception in Atlanta and on Sunday Anthony Harris and Steve Nelson both got their hands on passes but couldn't finish the play. Last year was the first time since 1996 the Eagles didn't have an INT in their first two games. Now it's happened two years in a row.

Correct! Still out.
Football is on.
Can't wait to watch the condensed version on NFL ticket later tonight as my neighbor who is a Niners fan said niners were lucky and I asked him "what do you mean? the Niners manhandled the birds the whole second half" but he said Hurts missed numerous guys wide-open on under throws and he called out one play I think it was either the first drive or first quarter where Smith was wide open and Hurts under threw him severely.
Saw some of that last week in Atlanta this is going to suck if his arm strength really is an issue as we finally got some burners at receiver and if you can't get them the ball down field, well we got 15 more weeks of this shtein.
Hurts definitely missed on those deep balls. He was downright Wentz-like with holding on too long waiting for who knows what to happen.
hurts is farging awful
that's it
Notes from the game:
Crowd was nuts. More of a playoff vibe only crazier. Credit Niners fans they made up roughly 10% of attendance.
Didn't eat much and starting drinking early. Getting old. Adrenaline was so high during the Reagor step out of bounds TD I had to sit down because I almost passed out.
Don't know if it was just because of the crowd noise but couldn't hear much from the PA announcer. Penalties were just all around confusing, they'd show replays but they'd start after the penalty. The helmet to helmet thing not one person in the stands knew what the farg was going on. Even the annoying Niners fans behind us who were crying over every penalty were confused.
Probably said this a million times during the Andy years but that was without a doubt the worst goaline playcalling I've ever seen. 4 straight qb sneaks and that gets in. Way to waste a huge play. I've always been a "just take the damn points" guy. Philly special sort of changed my mindset but yesterday it was clear the Niners were dominating the los at goaline so no idea why they'd go for it.
Didn't know until this morning the play clock hit :00 on the 3rd and 1 qb sneak to seal the game.
Garrapolo is horrible. First half he missed open receivers everywhere. I was afraid they'd put Lance in because the Birds wouldn't have stood a chance with his mobility.
I'm as big of a Sweat fan as there is but he was easily handled yesterday.
Devonta Smith comes out of his breaks faster than any receiver I've ever seen. Sucks it'll go to waste because Hurts doesn't have a quick enough release to exploit it.
Not gonna over react over one game. But Monday nights a different story. Sirriani gets a little leeway because he's new and had a solid debut but play time is over.
