The first 2-3 minutes the Flyers were laying it on, pass went back to Provarav at the point who made a lazy pass which was picked off causing a 2 on 1 break that lead to a goal. 11 seconds later was another. Elliott actually kept the Sharks from reaching double digit goals. Hextall needs to be on the hot seat too.
I've been ill for the last few days, so I haven't been up and around much. Lots of tv watching, though. Made the mistake of watching that last night. Not good at all.

if you are going to allow a rebuild in hockey then four years is like four days in hockey because players take forever
hextall has done all the rights in a rebuild...at least until we see all of his players...problem is he has been too hands off in letting hakstall not play them or play them for a game then bench them...and who knows if and/or how much his system and coaching has held them back
you cant grade hextall until all the young guys develop or dont develop
if hextall was hired to turn the team around quickly then he should be gone but that clearly wasnt the case

hakstal has not been good and i am a hextall supporter overall but the two biggest problems with the team this year goaltending and penalty killing are on hextall....he didnt address them at all in the offseason
They figured they had Carter Hart a maximum of a year away, so they just plugged and prayed there. No excuse for the PK, though.
cater hart was 19 this summer and goalies take notoriously long to become fully developed nhl players if they ever do
hart is not an excuse for goal tending in at least the next two offseasons but definitely not this past off season

1) i dont know anything about hockey or what constitutes good defense, but i can safely say the flyers positively blow on defense
2) their body language was horrendous up until the 3rd period...honestly thought they quit which is something mild mannered canadians arent supposed to do
3) was hoping for ot because they were shooting on my end, so of course it ends in 8 seconds on a horrendous turnover
4) place was like 90% full which was impressive, crowd was mostly and understandably dead
5) the columbus blue jackets shouldnt exist
6) i slapped grittys hand and it squeaked
in case you thought the eagles were the most pathetic philly team playing this afternoon...
obviously not in terms of importance but in terms of embarrassment this is an all time flyer loss

No difference in the ultimate outcome, but that was a horrendous call by the ref. As bad (if in a much less important situation) as the blown pass interference call against the Saints in the playoff. A professional ref shouldn't make such an obvious error.
In the end it's the Flyers, and they'll get killed by all decent teams.

1. Haag gets a four-minute high stick penalty when one Islander his his teammate. Haag's stick never left the ice.
2. Corturier is cross-checked head-first into the boards and has to leave the game for concussion protocall. Play was right in front of the ref. No penalty. Wouldn't be surprised if the Islander gets a game or two for that.
3. Hartman is given an interference penalty while fighting for the puck with the Islander's Mayfield (at best a 50/50 play with the Islander). This is followed up by Voracek being given an unsportsmanlike, giving the Islander a two-minute 5-on-3.
