Looking at that picture of the 2004 at the parade got me thinking, mostly because I don't feel like thinking about work. If you could put together your ideal Eagles roster made up of former Eagles from, say, 1980 on, who's on your 53 man roster? Who are your coaches?
I'm still thinking about it, but for shteins and giggles, here are some things to consider:
- Any coach or player, including practice squad, since 1980 is fair game
- You're building a team to last; everyone you pick is 25 years old and at the top of their game
- You're building the team to play against present-day competition

You can't just give Tapeh the FB job without allowing Kirkland to compete for it. And if Kirkland earns the job, 5 can drop a few pounds and take over NT.
But I want to concentrate on special teams:
I would have Blaine Bishop anchor the STs as punter. Which would move Tom Hutton to back up QB as long as they run a lot of shotgun and RPOs. I'm talking about the Phillies 1st baseman Tom Hutton, not the Birds, obviously. Also on special teams, Jeremy Bloom could find a role as returner in snow conditions. He couldn't do shtein on regular ground, but maybe someone never put him into the best position to succeed. If he sill sucks Vai Sik can punch his lights out and take over the job. And farg that eurotrash soccer kicking shtein, Simoneau and Tom Dempsy compete for placekicker.
this was harder than I thought it would be...tried to fill positions with the idea in mind that these guys would have to be on the field at the same time, so having a ton of DEs ain't gonna get it done on the line...

kiko is athletic....bednarik was small and slow thats no way to go thru life much less todays nfl....also he didnt play against black people...his birthday is not his fault but that automatically eliminates him...in short he probably would have been an all american at IUP
Realistically the overwhelming majority of guys who played in the 80s and 90s would not have the combination of size and speed required to play OL or DL if you dropped them into today's NFL. Training and nutrition have gotten a million times better, and the body types required to play the positions have become much more closely defined.
A lot of skill guys could compete. But go back to the 60s-70s and a lot of those guys would be garbage in today's NFL too. Yes, even the black guys.

On the other hand, they'd probably do well with modern sports medicine, performance enhancing drugs, and lack of astroturf. The receivers would certainly benefit from the rule changes.

He was fun to watch the first year and up to the Miracle in the Meadowlands III...but after that, pure trash. I felt bad because refs and the NFL had it in for him. But otherwise, he wasn't a good QB at all.

What the hell are you talking about? He's one of the most exciting football players I've ever seen. He threw a beautiful, accurate long ball, and was outright stunning in the open field. Without looking it up, he's top three all time QB rushing yards, and has to be up there for rushing TDs as well.

I mean, if you're building an all-star team you don't need the guy that can go through his progressions and check down better than anyone. You'll probably do fine with the guy that can throw it up there or haul ass if he needs to, and nobody does both of those better than Vick.

The lists should only include players contributions as eagles. I.E. how good were they when they were here.
A HOF player who was washed up when here is dumb to include.
I wasn't old enough to watch Carter when he was here, but not sure dude who had 1500 yards over 3 seasons should be on an ultimate eagles list. Was carter, at his best an eagle, better than quick at his best as an eagle? No.

2010 Mike Vick had one of the greatest Eagle QB seasons of all time. He was better than he ever had been in Atlanta, kinda like when Randall went to the Vikings and had his best season as a 50 year-old guy.
2011-2013 Vick was nothing special. C'mon. We all saw it.

Vick's not accurate. I don't remember the stat, but at Atlanta, his completion percentage was probably closer to 50% than 60%. Also, I don't think he ever threw for more than 3,000 yards in a season.
Early in his career, the only reason he was fun to watch, or even able to be an NFL QB, was because of how fast he was. Though I do think he became a better QB under Reid's tutelage.

Other than San Fran, I can't really think of a team that's had a high number of great quarterbacks.

Damn that is an awesome group of receivers, yes they were all at the end of their careers but it was awesome seeing them play for the birds.
Guy on no one's list so far who arguably had a better career than Westbrook (within 200 receiving yards, 700 more rushing yards) was Charlie Garner. He was a good change of pace back in philly but was legit after he left.
He was always caught up behind Ricky Watters and Duce. My teenage self thought he was better than either of them, and would have showed that if given the same opportunities.
Eagles almost never have a shortage of talent at RB. Only when Chip is picking players.
For real, the string of RB talent in Philly is pretty outrageous. Basically one stud after another for decades.
And just look at how many were stuck with a coach that didn't want to run the ball.
except that one year when injuries crushed them and they were running Darnell autry and Chris Warren out there. Who was the third guy they were using sometimes that year because they had to?

They trotted out a lot of garbage guys in that Autry year. I remember Amp Lee just because of his name, but there were a bunch of guys they tried.

The Duce/CBuck/Westy year was fun to watch. CBuck was pretty damn good when the glue held his knees together.
Don't forget Eric Bieniemy to that crowded, patchwork backfield in 2000. Can't recall Bieniemy doing much.
I think IGY had Charlie Garner on his list. I'll never forget his first game at SF in 1996 and he went off. That was the game the birds D beat the shtein out of Steve Young. Think final score was 40-8. Garner had a nice run with the Raiders.
Did anyone mention DE William Fuller? I think he made the pro bowl every year as a bird. Came from Oilers and only played with birds for three years maybe? I remember Fuller destroying the niners O Line that day, even Andy Harmon had a great game.
