Title: Week Six - 2017
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on October 15, 2017, 10:01:34 AM
Could be some boring blowouts today based on the spreads. Five games have 9 point or higher favorites.

Houston vs Cleveland
Jets vs New England
Atlanta vs Miami
Washington vs San Fran
Denver vs Giants

You also have snoozers like Tampa at Arizona and Chicago af Baltimore

Minnesota vs Green Bay should be good. Maybe Saints and Lions too

Browns 28th starting QB Kevin Hogan just got pick sixed

CBS crew said Watson told them he had a draft day morning text from Hue saying "get ready" and yet they still passed on him.

Moneyball analytics don't work for them either

Saints are destroying the Lions

They had a LB free on Stafford and he just took the ball from him.

Niners not interested in playing today

not only does this help the eagles this year, but it very likely could move the packers to 2nd  or 3rd place in the nfc north, which means they wouldnt face the first place eagles NEXT season

oh baby

assuming the eagles are even interested and they probably arent i cant see him this early accepting a part time small role with a team and thats what he would have to do on the eagles....once this week ends youll find out what if any teams are willing to offer him a starting or heavy rotation spot...if that market doesnt exist then perhaps he lowers his demands and catches on with a contender as a bit actor

I actually like Bowman and don't know how serious the injury is to Hicks so thought he could fit.

hicks injury isnt serious and bowman isnt really a 4-3 mlb
Title: Re: Week Six - 2017
Post by: ice grillin you on October 15, 2017, 03:58:59 PM
i love bowman and he would be a perfect veteran fit on a contender like the eagles but again i think the combination of him 1. having to take a secondary role 2. not be offered a better role by another team and 3. the eagles wanting him to begin with pretty much eliminates him from ever being an eagle imo

new england seems like a good spot to me

he probably couldnt play the strong side but he could easily play one of the two other spots....in fact hes a very similar player to hicks and kendricks...i think hed be great depth for the birds but LB might be their strongest position and getting him would be an embarrassment of riches...i just dont know why they would want to invest the time in him as far as teaching him the system and getting him acclimated into the lineup

again the raiders expressed interest and he wouldnt have to change his address

they are scuffling on defense so im sure he could play for them vs. being a depth option here

And they fumbled but whew out of bounds
Title: Re: Week Six - 2017

the OPI wound up being good for the 49ers. they werent going to be able to go OOB and got the extra down so they could pick up yards, spike and kick the fg. except they went incomplete on 2nd down.

almost.

no...they went from having 25 seconds left and needing 5 yards for a fg attempt to having 25 seconds left and needing 15 yards

they still had plenty of time to run up and spike the ball after a 5-10 yard gain

Then the FG attempt would have been on 5th down.

Don't agree with MDS though. Still don't think you can just assume they wouldn't have been able to get OOB after any positive yardage on 3rd down. Even if 3rd down was incomplete, at least you have some slim chance attempting the 58 yarder. The penalty made them need too much yardage in too little time.

if the opi is uncalled its 3rd down. so they would have to get the first to spike or get oob. there wasnt enough time to get 5 yards and get the fg unit on.

they couldve done anything on 2nd and 20 to get 10 yards, spike, kick the 50 yarder.

Under your plan they have the ball at 4th and 10 at the same exact location they could have had the ball at 3rd and 10 with more time left, if the OPI wasn't called. And it's a 57-58 yard FG there, not 50.

You need to get more than 10 yards for that to make any sense. With 19 seconds left, could the 49ers have thrown for 15 yards or so, run upfield, and spiked it without farging up? Maybe, but those odds aren't really any better than getting OOB on 3rd and 10 or throwing it away and trying the long FG if nothing is there.

of course they had time...they would have had like 20 seconds...if they threw the ball 20 yards maybe not...but a short pass gave them plenty of time...teams practice it all the time...you basically have to have a holder and kicker run on the field if the QB doesnt hold...and like you said you also might have even been able to throw a short out and get out of bounds altho far less likely

the time was irrelevant at that point....its a matter of what youd rather have....a 3rd and 5 or a 2 and 15...they werent getting fifteen yards and a spike in 19 seconds

the most amazing part of the whole thing was gruden calling a timeout after the penalty
Title: Re: Week Six - 2017
Post by: MDS on October 15, 2017, 05:35:43 PM
a short pass there takes minimum 5 seconds...you need 14 i think get the fg unit on and so it wouldve been basically impossible to get the snap off in time.

i should amend. they werent in better position with the penalty but they werent in a bad position. no call you get a free chance at the sidelines to at least pick up a few yards, then kick. but in that situation they couldnt have gone over the middle without getting the first
Title: Re: Week Six - 2017
Post by: ice grillin you on October 15, 2017, 05:48:56 PM
well that was my point....im not saying they would won with no penalty i was just addressing the idea that it helped them...they probably werent scoring either way but the penalty basically ended any small chance they had

-rodgers hurt

Refs farged up again too. Becoming something of a norm
