Title: 2017 Season Prediction Thread
Post by: Rome on September 03, 2017, 09:36:20 AM
I reviewed the latest 53 and the season schedule and came up with 8-8 or 9-7.   A lot would have to go right for anything better.

Post em if you got em.

im about the same place

maybe a win or two lower....cant have a weak secondary in this pass happy league....on the flip side if the pass rush posts up then 10 wins is easily attainable

Same...same

My thought have been in that range as well.  Some good luck or above-expectation play could get them to 9, some bad luck or below-expectation play could drop them to 6.  Otherwise 7 or 8 seems about right.

Lack of secondary + below average running game + worries about OL + Doug does not add up to playoff contention to me.

The actual talent of the team seems at about the 9 win level to me.

Anything lower than that, I would pin on either injuries or Doug. Since I think Doug is a buffoon, I do expect 1-2 wins fewer than the team's talent level. Worst case scenario would drag them down as far as 5 wins.

On the other hand, if the rest of the NFC East softens and Wentz has a breakout season, I could see them getting to 11.

But my expectation is basically a repeat of last season. No playoffs.

I'm strangely optimistic about wentz despite the hyperbole in the city.  I think the defense will be good.  I think 9-7 but i also think 10-6 is more realistic than a collapse to 7-9 or worse.

Biggest fear with the team (and Wentz's growth) is Doug.

i break the eagles schedule down into 4 parts

I: @wsh, @kc, nyg, @lac, arz, @car
II: wsh, sf, den, @dal, chi
III: @sea, @lar, @nyg, oak
IV: dal

im highlighting part II because thats where the wins need to come from. 4-1 there and mere average play in I and II puts them on 9 wins heading into week 17. realistically this the best position they could be in. 10-6 may win the division, it may get a wild card, it may not be quite good enough.

also doug could just farg this up

I'm not feeling very confident in this offense. I don't think Wentz finishes the season healthy, but it isn't like Foles is completely worthless. I don't think Blount even hits 800 yards though. I'm counting on the secondary getting torched pretty consistently. Is Doug Pederson going to learn and get better, or is he going to Any Reid his way through things?

I'm going with a pessimistic 6-10, 7-9.

Neither. He's not going to learn and get better, and he's not half as competent as Andy Reid.

I'm just looking for obvious positive development from Wentz this season. If he can become a breakout star, the team has a foundation for the next decade. Hopefully everything else about the team won't be too Douged up.

I predict that I will waste huge amounts of time watching this team. Roughly half of that time will make me actively furious. Roughly half of that time will make me blandly happy. There will be no satisfaction. I will learn nothing. Things will never change.

Not really excited for football season, usually I'm jumping out of my skin with excitement. There was nothing better than plopping my ass on the couch, drinking beer, ordering delivery, then watching the Eagles followed by the Redzone. Maybe the Giants home opener will get the juices flowing.

This is me exactly. The NFL has done everything in its power to make me disgusted in the league, its marketing and the product on the field. I know I'll get wound up about football during the season because I always do, but I'm having a very hard time giving a shtein right now.

I've felt that way for a few years now. I have more than a passing interest, but it's not close to what it was. More and more, when I watch I mostly see a bunch of entitled, enabled iceholes running around getting brain damage as they make billionaires even richer. Because, you know, that's pretty much what it is.

I bear no ill will towards the players. They are pawns in a game that they got thrown in to when they were children. The best of the best of the best get paid and make a phenomenal living, the other 98% of them have a 2-3 year career after which they have no discernible, employable skills and not nearly enough money to last the rest of their lives. Education came second, or third, for these guys since they were too young to make solid choices for themselves but we expect them to take school seriously while playing for football factory universities that prioritize ball over everything. No, I don't hate on the players anymore. I just put the TV on mute when they get microphones shoved in their face and move on with my day.

i for the most part quit the nfl a few years ago for most of the reasons already stated but my love or interest for the eagles has never wavered....however i will say for this year specifically they have had some of their juice taken away by the sixers....they are so much of what i think about these days and not just sports related but my everyday life

Excited because it's kickoff weekend not because of any expectations or hopes, just excited for Sunday football.

Always been:

Phillies 1
Birds 1A
Sixers 2
Flyers 3

Well, I was excited until I just saw the whole Patriots pre game celebration.

Oh and 9-7.

1A. Phils
1B. Eagles
1C/2A. Flyers
2B. Sixers

The Phillies are my first love, have the most recent success and bring back fond memories of watching games with my grandmother (who loved Juan Samuel).  Also the most relaxing for me to watch.

The Eagles bring the most passion and swear words, probably because of the condensed schedule (each game means more).  My wife thinks I get too worked up.

Loved the Flyers big time in the 1980s and 1990s.  This current incarnation, not quite so much.  Hockey in general has lost a little something in the last decade, and the Flyers just aren't good enough to compensate for that.

I'm kind of in and out on basketball since Dr. J retired, but thoroughly enjoyed watching the fruits of The Process starting to ripen last year.  Looking forward to more national games this season.  And the game in general is becoming more fun to watch for me than hockey.

So about a third of the way thru the season we're all right on schedule with being completely wrong about this team.

There's still time for them to collapse, though, so...   ✊🏿

the good thing about this year is the whole league is collapsing so the eagles probably cant even get in their own way

oh they also look like they have a real live franchise qb

Franchise quarterback, huh?  Awesome.

PS: When the pro football team from Washington breaks all of Wentz's limbs, neck, nose and dick on Monday, I'll know where to point to jinx-wise.

If the Eagles go 0-7 the rest of the way or somehow squeak out one more win, my prediction will be right on target.

So far T-Hawk is closest to the target, so yay for him.
