Post by: General_Failure on January 02, 2017, 10:21:56 PM
John Berger, art critic and author of Ways of Seeing, dies (http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-38492516)

QuoteHis best-known work was Ways of Seeing, a criticism of western cultural aesthetics, but he also won the Booker Prize for his novel G.

He donated half the prize money to the radical African-American movement, the Black Panthers.

ex Iranian President Rafsanjani. He could be a moderate and voice of reason standing up to hardliners and still a had a lot of influence with current pres Rouhani. With Trump, who will likely provoke the hardline theocracy, and who knows where that could end up, Rafsanjani's death could be a loss.

Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on February 18, 2017, 10:39:02 PM
I dabbled with it. I wanted to play when we could start band in school but my mom said no bc they were too loud. So I chose saxophone. But I always fooled around on the drums whenever I could. When I build my house it's going to have a drum room in it so I can bang away and not annoy the neighborhood.

I loved playing the tenor but making beats is more fun

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/happy-days-actress-erin-moran-dead-56-article-1.3090097

QuoteMoran wound up broke and homeless after being evicted from an Indiana trailer park where she lived with her husband, Steven Fleischmann, and his mother. Their prior home in California faced foreclosure.

The National Enquirer previously reported that Moran's heavy drinking contributed to the eviction.

Earlier this year, former castmate Ted McGinley rallied for another chance to play basketball coach Roger Phillips on Netflix.

That UVA kid who stole a poster in North Korea. Craziness.

Meh.  He went to North Korea.  They did their thing.  Didn't really treat  him any worse than they do their own.  It was nice of them to turn over the body.

Don't go to North Korea.

I kind of admire people who kill themselves, to be frank.  I get why someone would do it, and I'm not judging any suicide.  I didn't walk in his shoes.

I'm not going to get into a big debate about life and how to live it.  I can see suicide being a perfectly reasonable solution if you're in agony or have a terminal illness with no hope of recovery.  But these guys are killing themselves because of mental illness issues that are for the most part treatable.  In short, it's just a sad, horrible waste of life.
Title: Re: Dead in 2017

I think it's reasonable in a lot of circumstances, including chronic depression. That really is living in agony and the treatments aren't always too effective. For most people, it's not like you pop a Zoloft and you're all better.

I have less sympathy when it's clearly impulsive. Like when a 15 year-old loses his first girlfriend and hangs himself the next day, or when someone with no suicidal tendencies at all gets high as shtein and wonders what it would feel like to jump off a building. But someone with the level of impulsivity to end their lives on a whim probably would have done a lot of other extremely dumb and/or dangerous stuff in their lives, too, and much of it would have affected others... so maybe it's no big loss. It's still their life to do with as they please.

My only beef with suicide is the way it affects the people who were close to you, as they will be left wondering what they could have done to help, or did they miss a suicidal indicator, etc, etc, etc.  I won't even begin to try and judge a person for wanting to end his/her life, but good god I can only try to imagine the level of guilt that his friends and family are feeling right now.

there would be the obvious initial shock and sadness but if a truly troubled person commits suicide i would think a solid amount of people who were close to him/her would be happy the person isnt living in the hell that was their life anymore....thats how i feel anyway...i dont believe in that better place nonsense but i do believe they are often better off not being here

Paul Horner, writer of fake news about 2016 election, found dead (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/paul-horner-fake-news-writer-found-dead/)

QuoteHorner was known for writing false stories and disseminating internet hoaxes that often went viral on Facebook and hoodwinked thousands of people.

They included a story falsely claiming former President Obama was gay and a radical Muslim, and another saying protesters were being paid thousands of dollars to demonstrate at Donald Trump's campaign rallies.

Horner took on greater prominence during the presidential election when false stories were widely shared on social media during the race between Trump and Hillary Clinton.

Yep. All good guys. I was talking to the band to make sure it was real before he came home from school, because I was hoping to tell him it was a hoax. It wasn't. Kid is doing pretty well, but talking to newspapers that were calling last night was tough. I finally told them to email. A lot of fans are crazy, and they're leaning on the 13 year old which is weird and pretty unfair. But that's people.

This was one of the articles from talking to him on the phone. I thought he handled it as well as he could...he didn't know what to say about it. Now there's a TV crew coming this afternoon. Why they care what he thinks is baffling. I gave him an out, but he wanted to take the chance to say thanks.

Yeah, I was scrolling through a news feed a couple days ago and saw her name. Couldn't believe it. They also said she suffered from depression. I can't imagine a couple of twitter/instagram bully posts would cause her to go over the edge. Also, she was married to a porn director, 20 years her senior.

She had a great scene with Lana Rhoades.
