Missed Tyler Matakevich because of a questionable project DE. Brilliant.

matakevich is garbage...mccallister might be as well but at least he has some real good upside and more importantly can be improved a lot and improved with something as simple as getting bigger

frankly matakevich is someone chip would have picked and I for one am glad we are back to drafting talent over whatever the hell matakevich possesses

In 2015:
But yeah, he's garbage.

I'm not saying that he's the best of the draft - or even close to it - but he has a drive, a work ethic, and leadership qualities that is sorely needed by many NFL teams. In the middle of the 7th round, he's a bargain. Even if he's just a special teams or situational guy, he is far from garbage, and I have no doubt that he's contribute more than a project DE who couldn't even stay on his own college roster.

  • AAC Defensive Player of the Year
  • Bronko Nagurski Trophy
  • Chuck Bednarik Award
  • Consensus All-American
  • Broke Temple's record for career tackles
But yeah, he's garbage.

there are really good college players all over the country who cant play in the nfl

the good news for you is that the eagles will have a shot at matakevich when pittsburgh cuts him

The point being that there's a decent chance that somebody on both of those lists, plus having other accolades, will probably contribute more than a punk development project who wasn't even allowed to finish his college career.

Just based on this thread, I am predicting that McCalister will be the only Pro Bowler the Eaglers picked in this draft.

you are getting it all backwards...players are on those lists mostly because you are a good nfl prospect you aren't a good prospect because you are on one of those lists

unless you can show me all the small slow 7th round linebackers that made those lists and contributed in the nfl

if your philosophy is culture over talent or youd rather have the odds that matakevich sticks as special teamer versus mccalister becoming a good pass rusher in a couple of years then that's fair...but referring to the bronco nagursky award is silly

there are matakevichs all over UDFA there isn't mccalisters pass rushing talent body and upside out there

Normally I am in favor of drafting guys who exhibit on-field production over a project.

However in this case I don't think Matakevich suits the system the Eagles will run. He seems like he will be more of a two down thumper - not sure if he can run and cover.

I know because hes white slow and has a name that ends "vich" people think that means hes automatically super physical tough and knocks helmets off but its not the case....hes not a "thumper" at all

in fact hes small and not strong....his instincts were fabulous in reading plays and he was a really good at wrapping guys up but if he ever plays in the nfl his ass is going to get run thru over and around....that if hes even able to get off blocks to attempt a tackle something I have no idea how hed do at this level
Title: Re: Alex McCalister, Philadelphia Eagle

he'll be a special teams player at best. can we stop now ?

Absolutely.

Back to the player named in the subject...I'm sure that we are all anxiously looking forward to this young man's eventual rise to greatness.

What, it isn't a sure thing? Then why the hell did they draft him instead of that white guy?

you watch it but you don't watch it watch it....and really youd be better off admitting that instead of continually saying a player is one thing when hes the exact opposite...I mean calling matakevich a thumper is just ludicrous

I don't think anybody's calling a thumper. But calling him garbage is insane.

Anyway, I hope McCallister's shenanigans are behind him and that his athletic ability helps him succeed.

I said I saw him as more of a downhill thumper aka in the box Lb and not gonna be able to carry an NFL TE or RB down the field if he had to regularly.

But I don't watch watch really watch college enough
