Wilbert Montgomery is the Browns RB coach, and he basically trashed their whole unit. (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/13405259/wilbert-montgomery-calls-cleveland-browns-rbs-says-wants-role)

Kind of unique in the camp setting, where the coaches typically pretend that even a GJ Kinne type has no flaws in their game.

What makes that more amazing to me is that he went through that brutal veterans combine that put the nail in the coffin of a lot of careers, and he actually benefitted.

I believe Kafka parlayed that into making a roster as well.

Well, he's getting younger and the season is getting further away, so he has some time.

He might as well just ask who will write the check that would have come closest to the Eagles offer. That's where he'll end up.

i agree with everyone and ive stated as much numerous times before it even happened....this was an obvious given a long time ago....which is why the giddyness and mocking is so confounding....did you all think the oldest guard in the nfl who is overrated to begin with was going to get a fat deal and make more than he could have made with the eagles?

i guess i dont quite suckle the eagle organization as much as some and i also could care less what evan mathis makes this year...hes not important enough for me to go at....my concern is purely about how much of a downgrade (if any) andrew gardner is going to be...or if moffitt has a chance to possibly take over and imporve the position at some point
Title: Re: 2015 Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: SD on August 26, 2015, 09:04:46 AM
The Eagles are my team, I bleed green, they're my extended family, it's not 'suckle', he farged the team over. It wasn't the other way around. So farg him, I hope he gets Lecharles Bentley'd the first snap of his first practice.

And it's early but I rewatched the preseason games and from what I can tell they haven't missed a beat. Line looks like a strength.

Moffitt blows and I doubt he makes the team from what I can tell. He can't hold a block and is getting pushed around by backups. I think Tobin will be the primary guard backup.

But again, farg Mathis.

Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on August 26, 2015, 09:22:56 AM
Pretty much.

I'm usually all about a player getting paid as much as he can. But when a ploy to get more fails and it affects the Eagles then I enjoy seeing the player get screwed. Especially when it's Rosenhaus as the string puller.

to be fair snyder didnt build the stadium and no owner is not going to try and sell every seat...not saying kent cooke stadium is old and theres no way it should have been built like that but all older stadiums had seats like that and were sold....i dont have a problem with it provided you advertise that they are obstructed view....wouldnt suprise me tho if snyder chose not to do this
Title: Re: 2015 Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: Seabiscuit36 on August 27, 2015, 10:30:27 AM
He doesn't, and never has advertised the fact that the seats suck.  In all, it's the worst stadium I've ever stepped into for something built int he past 15 years.  It's setup more like a prison than a venue for sports.
Title: Re: 2015 Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: ice grillin you on August 27, 2015, 10:46:54 AM
actually i just talked to a co worker of mine who has season tickets and snyder does advertise them as obstructed view now...but this was only after after fans caused an uproar about not being told ten years ago

also the part about him not building the stadium is irrelevant because most of the obstructed view seast were installed by him in the mid aughts when gibbs came back

Probably just because Cortez Allen would normally be on the outside, but he's had success against Gronk in the past so for Week 1 it makes sense to put Allen in the slot.

Boykin couldn't supplant Williams & Fletcher at CB last year.  Why is it surprising that he's not starting in Pittsburgh?  I can seen being mildly surprised that he's not slated to be the slot DB, but it's not like he's the best player in the history of the universe.

Title: Re: 2015 Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: SD on September 08, 2015, 09:59:49 PM
He couldn't supplant them because he's not an outside cb. His niche is as a slot cb, he has the quickness and frame to excel there. Even if one of the starters on the outside were to go down last season Carroll would have replaced them. I'd take Boykin back for that pick in a heartbeat.

Good point. I would be really shocked if Boykin was the 4th corner there the whole year.

I would still take him back too and maintain trading him was a mistake more so now than before based on what the Eagles depth chart looks like. And because Rowe should be delivering pizzas.

See who's in the slot Week 2 against SF before firing up the MOCK machine. Like I said, I'm pretty sure the Steelers are going with a special Gronk defense in the kickoff game. On a normal week Boykin has to be their best slot option.

That whole Steelers defense looks like shtein, so he may get opportunities as they shuffle things around.

he also has to learn the defense and he may not fully be there yet...learning the slot is not like being alone on the outside and manning up with whoever the outside wr is

plus i think he has to play 50% of the snaps for it to be a 4th rounder

cause he may not have the system down pat dummy

have no idea why he's not playing I just know he'd be the best corner on the eagles right now

lol at homers having watched a guy play for three years and now thinking he sucks

this means one of two things you didn't really watch him or he got zesty overnite because he wears a different teams jersey

hes a better slot guy than either of them are at corner....i mean carroll isnt very good at all....so thats not saying much...maxwell from what ive seen of him is good but not better than boykin...to be fair need to give maxwell a year as a starter...hes never really played full time....he deserves a shot to shine as a number one guy...so far hes been a good corner but he was playing in the shade of superstars all around him

lets see how he does covering the calvin johnsons and dez bryants of the world for 50 snaps a game on a weekly basis...he will have every opportunity to earn his money and then some

ok, just to be clear, pick 2 out of the 3: Boykin, Carroll, Maxwell

I disagree Carroll isn't very good. He's not a pro bowler by any means but he's a solid corner.

and yeah jury is still out on Maxwell and yeah he's got his work cut out for him. The need for a good safety is going to rear it's ugly head at some point because their schedule is chock full with elite WRs
Title: Re: 2015 Ex-Eagles In The NFL

maxwell and boykin and its not even close....boykin you slam in the slot and have one of the best at that position in the nfl...mawell in theory has a ceiling still and played well on a sb winning defense

carroll is better than bradley fletcher (i think) which for the eagles right now is all that matters but hes a dime a dozen corner in the nfl...you can get a nolan carroll every single year in free agency and most years in the draft if you want...i actually like him probably more than most people do...for example i know a couple miami fans who say he blows...i dont think hes wack or anything but hes just another guy

Title: Re: 2015 Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: Rome on September 09, 2015, 01:42:58 PM
He's a slot corner in Pittsburgh who is not starting in the slot because he has to learn how to play slot corner in Pittsburgh's defense (which is evidently different than every other defensive alignment on the planet - otherwise, he'd definitely be starting).

It can't be any simpler, Jay.

Yeah, I don't care what he does with the Steelers. Boykin was good here in his role and was at the very least great depth for a secondary with a ton of question marks under the best of circumstances. For a 5th rounder, I'd rather have the insurance. He could fall off the face of the Earth and it would still be stupid.

Also, the question about picking two of the three corners is illogical...because they could have had all three at least for this season. And some combination of the three of them would be better than any two.

my goodness people went full mouth breather yesterday because of Foles.  once they traded him he hasn't even been a thought in my mind but people still say it was a mistake and used yesterday to prove it.

he made a great throw over Sherman in overtime, no doubt...but that game tying pass to Kendricks anybody could have made.  in fact if the defender hadn't fallen down it could have been a pick since he underthrew it.

Not from my perspective. I never thought the Eagles got the better end of that deal. Foles and a second sounded steep at the time, and still seems steep. Foles had his limitations, but I thought he did a pretty good job here, all things considered. A lot of people thought he flat-out sucked, though. Weren't you one of them?

its not all his fault as the eagles have no one that can get deep but i wish bradford would throw the ball more than ten yards down the field on occasion...even if its it incomplete...at least pretend you would at some point consider going downfield

whats depressing about the eagles is if they had legit weapons i would still feel realy good about bradford and have some hope for this season.....with eapons you could write off his struggles thus far to rust and learning a new offense...i think those two things are definitely factors in whats going on with him...but when those two things subside you still have him throwing to a bunch of garbage...even in the second half of the atlanta game when he was on you kinda saw the limitations of this offense...10-12 play dink and dunk drives....you cant live off that shtein...one of the big payoffs of being super accurate in chips offense is that the accuracy leads to mad YAC....cept the eagles have no playmakers on the team that will take a ball and run with it...sproles being the exception

its crazy how shallow the dallas and atlanta safeties played in the first two games...that doesnt just hurt the run game it also hurts the short and intermediate passing game which is all they got with this roster...so far its try and get sproles on a linebacker...thats the passing offense thus far

anyway id still take bradford over foles....just not for what they gave up

The picks and the cap hit.

Bradford has a much higher ceiling than Foles but the way the rest of the O is playing, I'm not sure it matters if Aaron Rodgers, Sam Bradford, or me is playing QB. Can't really evaluate him much until there is an offense to evaluate.

we can argue until the end of time over who made the picks and its too early to judge this years crop but in three drafts with chip as the head coach this is it as far as contributers:

lane johnson - not sure hes lived up to top 5 pick status but he was far from a flop either
zach ertz - has flashed but overall youd have to say hes underachieved altho id say chip has had too high expectations of him as a blocker
bennie logan - solid rotational defensive tackle
jordan matthews - great rookie year....dropsies this year

underwhelming to say the least

Foles for Bradford: Okay, you get a guy who has some unrealized potential. He comes with a frightening injury history, huge cap number, a short term deal... but you take a shot because the guy you're trading has a limited ceiling and isn't a great fit for the scheme.

Foles and a 2nd for Bradford: Must be on crack.

QuotePITTSBURGH -- The Brandon Boykin mystery continues.

When the Steelers traded a conditional fifth-round pick to the Eagles for the rights to Boykin, the move presumably solved a need at cornerback.

But Boykin has played one defensive snap -- one! -- in the last three weeks. He's logged less than 20 snaps the entire year.

Steelers cornerback Brandon Boykin has played fewer than 20 snaps this season and just one in the past three weeks.

This trend likely isn't changing any time soon.

Two years removed from a six-interception season, Boykin has no immediate chances to build on that number.

"I'm not going to say anything negative. I just feel in my heart things will turn around," Boykin told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette recently.

What's the surprise?  Gay has been solid in the slot for them.  Just like in Philly he can't supplant the starters and they seem to prefer Blake & Cockrell on the outside.

I agree with SD that I'd take him back, but what's going on with him with the Stillers isn't really a head-scratcher because the same thing happened in Philly.

Probably because their alternative isn't much better, Foles is young and they were so high on him when they traded for him, so might as well stick it out with him.

I've seen enough of Bradford to know he's a million times better than Foles. Foles supporters say he doesn't have weapons, well neither does Bradford. I would still reverse the trade because of the picks involved but if I had to chose one I'm taking Bradford.

the eagles gave up a second round pick for a guy drafted number one overall who is backed up by marc sanchez and you wanted him benched in week 2

foles is statiscally the worst qb in the nfl has no upside and is just a year younger than bradford but you are suprised they benched him?

I don't think the Rams thought in any way that Foles was their QB of the future.  Pretty sure this is how the conversation went down in Rams Land:

GM:  I found an idiot who wants to give us a 2nd round pick for Sam.

Owner:  What's the catch?

GM:  We have to take Nick Foles, too.

Owner:  DO IT NOW BEFORE THEY SOBER UP!
Title: Re: 2015 Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: ice grillin you on November 18, 2015, 06:01:46 AM
rams def weren't high on foles....mostly cause he stinks

Bradford was way more of the eagles future yet j wanted him benched two games in but is "shocked" a complete pos who is the single worst starting qb  in the nfl this year is benched

I suppose he has to act shocked as it fits his narrative that foles is actually a decent qb and more importantly better than Bradford
Title: Re: 2015 Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: SD on November 18, 2015, 07:17:47 AM
The Rams were definitely high on Foles. They passed up a 1st round pick for Bradford because the Birds offered Foles. Around the time of the trade the amount of love between the two was disgusting. Plus they caked him off for a year when they could have just let him play out his rookie deal.
Title: Re: 2015 Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: ice grillin you on November 18, 2015, 07:49:09 AM
i dont see the love....forget the benching this week which kinda speaks for itself

the first round pick the rams were offered they said was a real late one and they preferred foles a second and a 4th...not really much different in value there

and the foles extension was short and cheap for a starting nfl qb certainly not a deal you give to someone you are in love with

basically the rams had no interest in foles until chip came to them on bradford who he coveted....then they were like throw in some extra picks and sure well do it

foles stinks....we knew it chip knew it and the rams knew it...but they were like bradford is never healthy at least foles plays and he makes 5 million dollars less per year and well get some picks in the process....sure why not

the love imo was chip towards bradford not the rams towards foles

You don't pass up a higher pick and pay a guy an extra $14 million or whatever it was if you're not high on him. That makes no sense.
Title: Re: 2015 Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: ice grillin you on November 18, 2015, 08:13:11 AM
you pass on the higher pick because you are still getting a good and decent pick in return plus a starting qb versus getting just a late first and having no qb....just because they werent in love with foles doesnt mean he didnt carry value

as for the money 7 million a year is nothing for a starting nfl qb coming off his rookie deal...and they gave him two years...if they truly loved him he would have gotten tannehill money....shtein he didnt even get alex smith money....closer to brian hoyer

he got "we will take a shot on this guy money and in the likely scenario where he sucks we can easily get out of the deal with little pain and will still have two nice picks in our pocket"

we will have to agree to disagree on that being "disgusting love"....to me the whole move was about being sick of bradford not loving foles

first and foremost it shows a modicum amount of good faith in a guy you traded for by giving him some cash in the last year of his deal

secondly if he somehow reverted back to 2013 this year then they have him locked up for a couple years at cheap while at the same time protecting yourself since you watched him go from all world to trash overnite in philly

i think they clearly had hope for foles by giving him this deal but i dont see anything that indicates its a lovefest contract otherwise they wouldnt have benched him
Title: Re: 2015 Ex-Eagles In The NFL

If they loved him, they'd have locked him up long term after they traded for him. Eagles tried doing that with Bradford....because Chip had a rager for him because he doesn't understand how the NFL works..., and tbe Rams gave Foles 2 years....because it was a cheap roll of the dice with a potentially high jackpot and because Jeff Fisher knows how the NFL works.

igy is spot on with this one.

On the other hand, the NFL writers don't have to be afraid of TO shooting them if they pass on him.

QuoteTwo off-duty Philadelphia police officers were assaulted by former Eagles player LeSean McCoy, ABC 6 in Philadelphia reports.  This according to sources.

Both officers were hospitalized as a result of the incident.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday at the Recess Lounge located at 125 South 2nd Street in Old City.

It was there that McCoy, and a friend, were involved in a physical altercation with the two officers, sources said.

Sources also say that while McCoy and his friend were not arrested, they are the focus of the investigation.

A police report was made at the time the incident took place, those sources added.

The Chiefs confirmed to The Associated Press on Saturday that Reid had the procedure. Reid also had knee replacement surgery last year that caused him to miss the Senior Bowl.
Not clear to me though if he got the other knee done or if he's starting to go through a knee a year now.

Man, that 3rd rounder is really going to haunt them when Andy doesn't have enough undersized linebackers.

He'll have plenty of undersized LBs when he turns his 4th round into nine 6th and 7th rounders. With high motors, of course.

No charges against Shady.  It became pretty obvious there wouldn't be charges one they hit the 1 week mark and didn't charge him.  Not sure why it took like 2 months to come to that conclusion.

I can understand if someone disagrees because Bradford's a short timer and the Eagles lost the 2nd rounder, but I'm thinking Chip actually won that trade.
Title: Re: 2015 Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: ice grillin you on July 27, 2016, 03:56:01 PM
we will never really know with chip gone because he would signed Bradford long term and we could have seen him here for a proper amount of time to judge the trade

that said even with foles released short of bradford having some crazy good year this season I would say the eagles (not chip) lost the trade because of the 2nd rounder
