Title: Boykin Traded
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on August 01, 2015, 08:03:41 PM
For a farging 5th rounder?!?
Title: Re: Boykin Traded

That's farging terrible

Why?

They have no cb depth...hell they have no db depth

Why? Because he's 5'9

That's the only reason! Stupid farging trade

Hopefully they aren't about to trade Drake too.

Shepherd, Evans, Watkins, and even Thurmond could all get a look in the slot.

McLane says the pick can go to a 4th rounder based on playing time.

Still don't understand the point of trading a guy proven in the position. He was going to be gone after the season, but still. Maybe Chip didn't want him outplaying Carroll and Rowe on the outside in camp.
Title: Re: Boykin Traded
Post by: SD on August 01, 2015, 09:06:33 PM
Thurmonds supposed to play safety although that might be a ploy to motivate Rowe to step up. Still...Boykin was one of the best 3rd cbs in the league and they gave him away for scrap. DB depth is bad. Yeah maybe those other guys get a look in the slot but training camp hasn't even started yet.

That idiot Billy Davis didn't like him either

He should've been fired for giving Fletcher run over Boykin

Pisses me off, and no matter how much benefit of the doubt I try to give Kelly, he's still coming up clueless in how to build a team.

If he felt he just had to make he trade now, he needed it to be for a solid starting guard that fits, or else another DB. And NEITHER of which should be injured.

The division is going to roast the Eagles secondary, especially if Thurmond gets hurt again.

A slot corner isn't worth very much in trade, even if he's one of the best in the league. He was out there for fewer than half of the snaps. I don't really question what they got back for him, he's been on the market forever, if there was a better deal available they would have bitten. If he proves himself in Pittsburgh the trade is for a 4th, which is what he was drafted as.

The issue isn't what they got, it's why they moved him at all. Clearly it makes the team worse this year. I think it's possible there's another competent slot corner on the roster (and we know Thurmond is, but he's getting a shot at safety first), but it just seems like an unnecessary throwaway of a solid player.

i dont get it

boykin is a nothing corner and they got, potentially, a 4th for him. they drafted 2 (taller) boykins in april. this is how this thing works. this is a guy they werent going to sign and before he left for nothing they got a pick for him.

who cares.

Boykin was a good player who was absolutely out the door next year.  They actually managed to get something in return for him now which is a bit unusual for them.  Not crazy about the move because like I said he's a good player but he obviously wanted a shot to start and that wasn't happening.

LOL @ the usual histrionics here, though.  Only on :CF could the trade of a slot corner elicit this sort of unhinged hysteria.  Christ - get a hold of yourselves.    It's just a football team.   It's not like they all of a sudden outlawed bacon.

No you guys, this is the player you should finally care about. All those other shlubs like Jackson, McCoy, Maclin, and Mathis were just business. But this move, this move right here? This is Big Chip shoving his football dick down the fans throats to show how much he hates them. What a shame that you're all such stupid Lurie LappersChip Suckers to see it for what it really is.

On the field I don't see how this makes them better this year. But if they had no intention of resigning him getting something in return is a positive. Chip is trying to build this team based on his own philosophies. Moves like this shouldn't surprise anyone any more, drama queens.

Chip's response to Boykin's comments:

Quote"I haven't really had time to digest that, but I don't believe that. Talk to DeMeco, talk to the other guys here. I think those are the guys you should talk to."

"I don't know. When talking to him last night, I think he was stunned. He was disappointed. I think he really liked it here. Very close with his teammates."

"Yeah it [bothered me]. It really did. When he left here last night, he shook my hand and gave me a hug. I like Brandon. I just don't know. I really don't know."

"Brandon has a great work ethic. He did everything we asked him to do here. We never had an issue with him. Was a great teammates. Was very well liked here. The reality is we have 90 guys, and the reality is you have to cut to 53, so 37 guys are going to be disappointed. And obviously I would imagine all 37 of those guys are going to have a different opinion than we have as a staff, but that's what you have to do."

Boykin arrives in Latrobe: Chip not a racist, he said, but he and other players wished they interacted with him more and he related to them.

So it's OK to indirectly accuse him of it then backtrack hours later. Got it

How strange is it that players today claim to want interaction with coaches.   My high school coaches were iceholes who only cared about winning. They weren't your friends, they were your bosses.  Still the same way in pro sports even if the athletes seem to require coddling on an epic level.

Also bacon.
