Title: Eagles-Niners Talk - Week IV - A New Hope
Post by: Rome on September 22, 2014, 08:51:20 PM
25 years ago this week I got married on a Saturday, saw Joe Montana eviscerate the best defense I've ever seen on Sunday, and started my honeymoon in Bermuda on Monday.

Go...

Watching the niners' defense devour this o-line should be a real hoot.

Niners haven't been really devouring anyone.

Line opened at -4 SF and is up to -5.5 at last check. Keep climbing so I can grab the Birds

Niners have scored 3 pts second half all year so perhaps they can actually.

That being said - I think this is a brutal spot.  Niners need a win badly.  Eagles are walking wounded.  At San fran following an emotional game.

sf winning probably doomed the eagles chances...i wont say i would have liked the spot but i would feel decent about the eagles chances if the niners had won

Feels like a hard-fought loss. Hope I'm wrong. If they pull this one out-- against a talented team in desperate need of a win and with Foles/McCoy behind a 3rd string Oline-- I'll be bought into them being better than I thought.

That video give me goosebumps.

I don't see the Eagles winning this one, the oline scares me. But if they can put it all together and get it done in the red zone with some consistency they have a chance. Foles will be lucky not to take a beating. He seems tough after last week but how many hits can this guy take without getting injured?

Jags have given up 119 pts. a 39.7 avg.

Eagles are in the top five in a lot of power rankings, most likely get exposed this week.

Finally, they're playing a real team that got their only win against Dallas. This game will surely tell us if the Eagles are for real or not.

They have the best offense in the NFL and a highly innovative head coach.  They were practically built for prime time.

Which part are you having trouble understanding, Shore?

Indy will be good this year.  Still think SF needs this for their season so I expect them to get it but indy was a tough spot too and they pulled it out so who knows.

Im saying they don't have a online or an offense that scores with any cosistancey in the red zone so I dont get how they have the best offense in the league. And that not taking into account the swiss cheese defense..

With a kicker thats leading the league in scoring and the fact that special teams scored a TD last week just how good is this offense really? Chances are they lose two out of the last three without Parkey and probably the last game if special teams doesnt run one back

Denver maybe but thats it. I think they got lucky against Indy. A few calls or non calls went their way for shore. Play them 10 times they win maybe three.

Niners are a desperate team.  Things are not good at the mining camp.  I was in the bay area for business last week and fans were turning on Kapernick already.  Defense spots them 21 at Dallas, offense didn't do shtein.  Blow a 17-0 lead during new stadium opening then get roughed up at AZ.  They lose this Sunday all hell breaks loose.

Denver's O has even been inconsistent beyond the first half of wk1.  No running game whatsoever.

Eagles lead the league in pts scored.  Some of that is a product of who they've played but the offense has been productive.  Whether it will maintain this pace with Molk/Tobin/Kelly is a different question.

I'm assuming since Manneans is being moved to tackle they've given up on Gardner playing if he doesn't have to (didn't study the OLine obviously but he seemed to be the weak link the last two weeks).  Tobin was supposed to be the best backup lineman they had so hopefully he's at least serviceable for now.  I'm most concerned about Molk for Kelce.

I also think that SF is desperate for a win and if the Eagles fall behind by 2+ scores that they (SF) will hold on for the win.

Defense has had to be on the field for 3 extra possessions due to defensive/ST TDs.   They've done all they can.  Now you're keeping them on the field.  Whatever.  Not chippers best game between offense and decisions with challenges and that call.

Oh, come on... Foles is playing behind a patchwork piece of shtein offensive line that is littered with cast-offs and nobodies.  They can't run the ball with these losers, so that takes away any chance for the play action game to take hold.  That 90 yard drive was a thing of beauty and only idiotic play-calling from Kelly prevented them from scoring.

on 3rd down maybe you try a run there....you can always second guess play calling. bottom line is the line is horrible. herremans is not a tackle. if they run into the line twice everyone is whining for play action.

Yup.  I really like Foles' toughness.  I'm a fan.  I'd really like for him to be the guy for the next 10+ years.  But he has missed A LOT of throws this year.  And he's missing everywhere....missing deep, short, intermediate, inside, outside....you name it, he's missed it.  And these aren't throws made under pressure.  These are throws that he's getting protection on.  I hope I'm wrong and he's just in a really bad funk or something, but the first 4 games of the season he hasn't even come close to resembling anything from 2013 other than the Dallas and Minny games.

They replaced Jackson with Maclin. That's a dropoff on big play ability, but Maclin is a 70 catch, 900 yard receiver. This season he's on pace for 84 catches and 1400 yars despite how bad the offense is playing. That's on par with what Jackson had last year.

Cooper was insurance in case Maclin got hurt again. Matthews is replacing Avant, and he might get there by next season. He might have been able to improve quicker if Cooper wasn't around. He's on pace for 56 catches, 564 yards. That's better than Cooper or Avant from last season. Meanwhile, Cooper's looking at 60 catches, 500 yards as a starter. More catches than last year, but way less yards. Maybe because they can't stretch the defense. Maybe because Foles can't hit any pass over 15 yards. Either way, Maclin's doing okay as a starter and Cooper isn't.

If Cooper could farging catch (and Foles could hit receivers, but whatever) they'd be okay. And no, nobody's going to hit any of those numbers if they continue playing like garbage. The good news is the schedule is literally full of garbage opponents!

I'm hoping with Lane back and Manneans back to G that the line can stabilize a bit.  Kelce loss is huge but hopefully the coaches can get them to play better.  At least they only have St. Louis next week and is at home.  Definitely need to draft OL and defense next year.

Jackson 15 catches 207 yards 1 TD 13.8
Maclin 21 catches 364 yards 3 TDs YPC 17.3

Maclin is the #1 receiver, Desean has Garcon to take some of the heat off him. I'm not saying Jaccson isn't the better player and I understand his big play capability keeps defenses on their heals, but they don't win that game yesterday because he's out of the lineup. Maclin has been fantastic.

Cooper blows.

It's probably been mentioned a few pages back, but the calls after the Ertz fumble were the reason the Eagles lost this game. The D holds and they get called on a ridiculous holding call 2 yards past the LOS. Then Kaepernick throws a TD and there was a blatant holding call on Thornton (was one of the lineman) when Kaepernick was scrambling. Funny how Troy and Buck missed that call and there was no replay. CONSPIRACY.
Title: Re: Eagles-Niners Talk - Week IV - A New Hope

Hoculi was an abomination.  All of those calls you say are spot on including the phantom block in the back which changed the field position 20 yards on the last drive.  He was bad for the Niners too.  Both pick plays they called for penalties weren't at all.  Just a terribly officiated game all the way around.

They lost because they didn't score a point on offense but it was a disastrously officiated game.

Oh and the only thing that bothered me about it was aikman and buck over analyzing ever niners penalty because that was a storyline they were told to talk about going in while ignoring them for the Eagles essentially.  Lazy announcing.   Could've been worse though, Simms could've done tbe game.

It turns out all you needed to do was make his QB throw poorly. Dammit.

What chaps my ass is that the Eagles apparently did nothing to deal with the fact that their code had been broken.  How do you not have a backup plan for this?

Back up plan was consulting the secret service. Btw I thought chaps didn't have an ass. Not an expert about those things but Chuggie would probably know.

They have the best offense in the NFL and a highly innovative head coach. .

Duhh. They couldn't even score a single point.
