Title: Superbowl thread
Post by: SD on February 01, 2014, 08:40:01 AM
My prediction: Denver's D is the story of the game. Denver wins by double digits. Something along the lines of 27-17.

Have to admit I had no idea who Bruno Mars was. (my lawn, get off it  :P )

Read in the SB previews that Denver had the 3rd easiest opponent's defense schedule this year. Seeing how the game is turning out that sounds about right.

I thought going 18-1 was a humiliating choke job, but at least that was a competitive supberbowl. Peyton tore asses up in the regular season with the most insane numbers ever and was in a hole from the very first snap.

But Wilson's not 6'4" 250lbs. and able to throw the ball into the upper deck off his back foot, how could he win a Super Bowl?

Seriously though, I didn't see any Seahawks games this year and didn't know their D was that dominating.

What a crappy game to close out the season. I was disinterested by halftime and my wife fell asleep despite looking forward to it.

I'll take a defense like Seattle's any day, they made what was the best offense in the league last year look incompetent. When the Broncos blow Super Bowls they really blow them, with an average margin of defeat in five Super Bowl losses of almost thirty points.

Plus, Manning sets the NFL record for career playoff losses with twelve, breaking a tie with Favre. I wonder if Favre called to say thank you. The Broncos also hold the record for most Super Bowl losses with five. I'll bet pot sales are sky high in Colorado right about now.  ;D
Title: Re: Superbowl thread
Post by: SD on February 03, 2014, 08:02:48 AM
Peyton's an awful postseason qb...polar opposite of his brother who is clutch. People were saying this win would cement his legacy...so since he played awful this loss should tarnish his legacy.
Title: Re: Superbowl thread
Post by: ice grillin you on February 03, 2014, 08:09:12 AM
it definitely hurts him as far as the all time qb rankings go....a win maybe puts him in the top 3... now hes not top 5
Title: Re: Superbowl thread
Post by: Zanshin on February 03, 2014, 08:24:27 AM
I think Manning is an all-time great QB, but this is a significant black eye, for sure. No doubt about it. Only way to dig out even a little would be to go back, play lights out and win another SB. All this one did was reinforce the big game disaster rep.
Title: Re: Superbowl thread
Post by: Diomedes on February 03, 2014, 10:07:44 AM
Stage is nicely set for another Denver SB, this time with the W, followed by a QB retirement.  It's destiny.

Title: Re: Superbowl thread
Post by: NC_Eagle on February 03, 2014, 12:27:41 PM
The Broncos had the easiest schedule in terms of opponent's 2012 win-loss record this season, the Seahawks were in 10th place.

Seahawks   0.516   130   122
Broncos   0.430   110   146

Not to say Denver has a terrible offense, or that Payton is a terrible QB (have to say I'm not upset that he lost) but they were a good offense that played a soft schedule (best D they played was San Fran, and they got held to 10 points, everyone else was in the bottom half in YPG) and got exposed (to an unexpected extent I admit, I thought it would come down to the 4th quarter) in the Super Bowl against the best D in the league.

Not sure if this ruins Payton's rep too much; assuming he doesn't make it back to the big game he has the same number of SB wins and losses and similar number of post season losses as Favre, with better passing numbers (Peyton can easily break Favre's TD total, Rating isn't even close and he has a shot at the passing yards if he plays a couple more seasons), but most sportscasters and fans still get a stiffy just hearing Favre's name.

true that they did have an easy schedule that no doubt led to them piling up some numbers but they didnt play san fran this year and at least 3-4 of the teams they played were in the top half in ypg

watching what seattle did to manning makes you wonder how bad it wouldve been if they played foles

good thing the eagles just lost and avoided it
Title: Re: Superbowl thread
Post by: Sgt PSN on February 04, 2014, 02:34:08 PM
Not taking anything away from Seattle, but what they did to Denver and Manning was more or less a fluke.  Safety on the 1st play from scrimmage + batted ball pick 6 + Percy Harvin getting healthy at the right time = fluke. They're perfectly capable of beating Denver any day, but if they played 10 times, Den puts up like 24-28 pts per game in the next 9.  Seattle had their best game and Denver had their worst. shtein happens.
Title: Re: Superbowl thread
Post by: ice grillin you on February 04, 2014, 02:52:15 PM
couldnt disagree more....when denver had the ball seattle was basically dominant at every single position on the field....their wr couldnt get open...their line couldnt protect or run block and peyton cant go down the field which is killer against a team that tackles as good as any team ive ever seen...are they 35 pts better than denver maybe not....but they are a far superior team and there was nothing flukey about that ass whipping....and i thought denver would win a low scoring close game

you are being very kind on the "batted ball" as if it was some sort of weird play...it was batted because cliff avril bum rushed peyton

also seattle didnt have their best game...they had the game that they basically played all year...efficient offense dominating defense
