Early prediction: Lavy doesn't make it to 2014
I don't think he makes it to December
Vegas has him 2/1 to be the first coach fired
ton of optimism here. 8)
The Flyers are decidedly mediocre... which sadly makes them the best team in Philly.
i dont really understand why jay rosehill is on this team
heres your line combos
hartnell - giroux - schenn
read - lecavalier - simmonds
talbot - cooter - jakie
rosehill - hall - rinaldo
timonen - coburn
streit - schenn
grossmann - meszaros
They're at least looking better than preseason.

They're outplaying the Leafs
They're getting a lot of calls going their way too.
they are also playing a team who 24 hrs ago were playing a very emotional and physical home opener then had to travel late night to philly for an opponents home opener

Realistically he should have been gone after last season. How bout Tocchet as the Flyers coach? Hextall takes over for Homer.
tocchet is my all time favorite athlete by far but he was an abomination as a coach....its way above his capabilities as a human being
It will probably be Terry Murray, at least on an interim basis.

Agreed. To give a guy 3 games when you knew exactly what he was is something only the flyers could manage.

If there was even a resemblance of team defense, it would be an improvement.
Kind of like the Eagles...
fire chairman ed
i thought you loved ed
but basically hes jerry jones without the awesome personality
hes a legend and an all time great owner but hes too old.....happens to the best of them
I was 10 when they last won a Cup. Is Craig Berube the next Fred Shero? Yeah, probably not.

Lurie is an awful owner. 20 years, no superbowls. Dumb uniform choice. Sticks with losers like Banner and Roseman. You don't let that type of internal fighting bring your team down, you handle shtein like a farging man and clean house. He's too much of a nice guy liberal to own an NFL franchise.

the sooner he gives up the reigns, the better.
it really comes down to no superbowl for lurie because during his tenure the eagles are probably the most successful franchise in the nfl to not win a lombardi
you have to remember since he has taken over i believe only 10 franchises have won the superbowl....also the eagles haven't won a championship of any kind in 53 years....its not like they were the steelers before lurie took over

not in the past 20 years they haven't. it's amazing how much people still suck off the flyers based on the 70s.
the flyers are a joke right now...they are a more successful version of the raiders. no plan, no vision, kneejerk reaction to something today and pay double for it tomorrow.

Quotethe fact you ignore is that they've been to the Stanley Cup Finals 6 times since the last Stanley Cup Championship. they lost each time not because they hired their own people, or that they lacked a perspective of someone not bred in the Flyer organization. they lost because they had the misfortune of playing teams who all beat the Flyers to win their first of multiple Stanley Cups, in other words dynasties. The Blackhawks are 1 more Cup from dynasty status but the other 5 teams that beat the Flyers all won at least 3

CenterIce package, not tickets to the game. We normally get 5 a year lower level, and its just not worth the expense for us now.
oh, i read that too fast.
yeah, i bought tickets for my wife for her birthday to see the islanders, that should be a terrible game but it was the only weekend night game that worked with our schedule for the whole year.
$75 each for upper level center ice.
All good, saying the Ticket should only apply to the NFL. At least its center ice for those tickets. The sad thing, chalk that game up to a loss.

Unlike the other sports you can tell a lot from preseason hockey. They looked terrible and you could see this coming from a mile away. They can either turn their season around tonight or get blown out...but I'm expecting the later. After the Canucks scored they literally skated around with their heads down with the woe is us look on their faces. That's what losers with no leaders do.

Lavvy should have been let go last April, or at least in the summer. Berube should have been named nothing more than an interim coach. All of this goes back to Holmgren. Hell, they overvalued their young talent. I had no clue how bad the Schenn brothers could be. The team all looks like they never hit the gym all summer. And you're right about Snider, he was a legend, now he's a shadow sipping wine

yeah i really dont care but id rather have downie just because hes a FA after the season
My fear is Holmgren will give downie an 8 year contract.
would be better than giroux's
I loved Downie when he played for the Flyers mostly because I got to use the phrase Downie Syndrome a lot.
Even for Homer this is a mind-bogglingly stupid deal, though.
not really, they get talbot's contract off of their books and downie has slightly higher upside on the offensive end, plus he's a pending FA. if they re-sign him then it's dumb
wait so it isnt a mind bogglingly stupid deal?
That's primarily my fear.
It will never happen under holmgren. :paranoid:
It's Chip Kelly's fault

in less than one period its obvious how much better downie is than talbot

a minute away from another 1-0 shutout win and they lose in OT
Scott Hartnell has gone 47 games without an Assist

So pathetic.
How about Couturier shooting at an open net and not only missing an easy goal but somehow hitting the far-side post behind the goalie

Is there an actual list? There are so many it's hard to keep track.
its worst than choke's right ? at least the big guy has some hardware.
JRich and Kwame combining to make $9.2M this season is pretty bad
Choke is still owed 3/$85M or 4/$98M
Pap is still owed 2/$26M or 3/$39M
Can't really complain about Cliff's deal and it's still too early for Cole's one
Hartnell is still owed 6/$28.5M
killa is still owed 4/$39.8M after this season (or $5M in dead cap space if they trade/cut him)
Rogers Sportsnet says the Flyers and Oilers are working on a deal that would send Simmonds and possibly Luke Schenn to Edmonton for Eberle and Hemsky
G finally scored. Break out the fireworks
One bright spot has been Mason.
I was just coming here to post that SD. This team is an abortion, but Mason has looked like a very good goalie so far. No defense and no offense mean that this team will suck shtein, but at least flyer fans can't complain about the goalie play for once.

Brayden Schenn scores two to beat the Penguins. Three in a row. Still haven't reached mediocrity yet.
Mediocrity reached! 10-10-2.
Who thought the Flyers would get back to even before Thanksgiving? Hell, I didn't think they'd get there this season.
They've turned the corner. Whether it was the coaching change or whatever they look like a totally different team. Mason carried them up to this point, but now they're putting the puck in the net and not making stupid mistakes. At the very least they're entertaining to watch.
It's watchable. Thats surprising because this entire season was a wast up till 12 games ago. Somehow that Caps game actually turned a page.
i agree with the watchable part vs the turned a corner part...they did beat the pens but i dont believe they have beaten a single team with a winning record otherwise
its very similar to the eagles....each teams division is garbage....the patrick division is actually worse than the nfce its crazy how bad it is....neither team has beaten anyone thus far and each teams sked gets real from now thru december
we will know around christmas what the real deal is with the flyers and sixers

I don't know anyone in the history of the Philadelphia Flyers who has had this kind of unhealthy relationship with the game. It's beyond the level of anyone you can mention. I think even the Pittsburgh fanbase feels kind of disconnected from him, because who can sympathize with him? They are defensive and protective when it comes to him, but they don't understand him either. He's a prodigy.
Giroux can't be held to that standard. But he can be held to the standard of his big contract. He's playing well below that standard.
Looks like they're back where they started. Turned it off at 3-1. Glad I did.
how do the flyers go on a two week road trip and follow the last game of the trip with a home game the next night....ridiculous
i had to laugh last night watching handzus versteeg and sharp all score
17 goals allowed in their last three games
their culture is fine.
Maybe Dave Brown can coach.
nah lets try a fighter that routinely got his ass kicked.
someone call shawn antoski
Good defensive effort tonight until that last minute.
And Mason goes a little Hextallian there at the end.
More dogshtein. Up 4-1 with 9 minutes left and they lose another shootout
Got their revenge with 3 goals after Wilson got thrown out for destroying Schenn
Wilson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89Ldu2k0oKU)
doesnt come close to making up for sunday
im so glad that conflicted with the eagles game or else i would be in jail right now

Hell of a game from Mason despite allowing 3 goals (one of which was a fluke). Brayden ties it with :47 left, then they won another shootout
i know calgary isnt a good team but tonight would be the flyers most impressive win of the year to me....flew to vancouver and had a really emotional win last night...then have to go to calgary 20 hours later and play this game
Schenn actually scored twice, but one was disallowed on a questionable "incidental interference" call on Hartnell - goal disallowed, but no penalty called.
Ref was immediate with the call, though.
That was an awful call. Flyers have a little more bounce in their step lately

Thanks, Claude!
And Hartnell with the go ahead
Schenn with a heck of a game. Sliced in the stomach by a skate (thankfully not deep), and scores the game-winner in overtime.
Of course, zesty play to give up the tying goal on the power play with 30 seconds left.

this game was last night.....as impressive a regular season win as youll see
10 in a row at home now...if this continues and the goaltending doesnt suck they could actually make some noise in the zesty east
total domination and down 1-0
2-0 on a terrible breezy like goal by mason
jake-eeeee
awful
This game is a rude awakening...sure the Flyers have been playing better...maybe they even come back and win this game (as I write that Voraceck scored)...but Tampa is so much faster than the Flyers that no matter how physical the Flyers are they'll still never compete for a title when teams can skate circles around them. "Our philosophy is fine"
yeah tampa scores by stepping thru a flyer defensemen or some sort of skillful pass/play...flyers score on rebounds and screen shots from the point
outside of giroux and voraceks hands the flyers dont have a skill ladened player on their roster
speaking of jake-eeee
get mason OUT!
Jake is on fire
Pretty much...Vinny still has some skill but the rest of the team is as you described. They desperately need a #1 defenseman.
I feel like Simmonds is having a down season but he has 15 goals.
And just like that Tampa takes the lead
yeah i forgot about lecavalyay....his skills have eroded with age but not his shot which is still lethal
Haven't been able to watch as many flyers games as I'd like this year but this has not been a good showing for Mason.

Maybe the first 5 minutes. Thought the Flyers dominated the second half of the 1st.
flyers owned the 1st period....their forecheck was on fire....chances were like 15-3....but as we talked about flyers have to work and work and work for their shots.....meanwhile a more talented team like tampa can have one rush down the ice and be leading the game....which is basically what happened

solid weekend boys
CArcillo and Simmonds are gonna be dropping the gloves here soon
They'll blow now for a few weeks then rail off 10 in a row. Bipolar hockey
rangers officially ahead of them in the standings now
Good news: The Flyers have killed 25 penalties in a row.
Bad news: That hasn't stopped the Flyers from giving up nine goals in the last four periods.
Simmonds might kill a bitch tonight. He looks pissed.
Hopefully, it's one of those god-awful defensemen. Preferably a high-paid one.

He was really good, the good Mason seemed to have showed up just before the break. What i thought was more impressive was how bad he was cramping up and he kept playing lights out.
break couldnt be coming at a worse time for this squad
Emery played his ass off. Good win against a pesky Flames squad.
Team bipolar pulls out of depression...hits their manic mode...now a 3 week break
sd 1-10 what number you give the flyers to make the cup....im not being a smart ass either....nhl history is filled with 876 seeds making runs...its a league where teams can come out of nowhere and make mad noise in the postseason....where do you put this flyers team....
Those teams had either a hot goalie, a great player to lead them, or great team chemistry. Mason/Emery aren't getting that hot, Giroux is not putting a team on his shoulders and carrying them to a cup, and there is no chemistry or rhyme or reason with what they're trying to do. Plus defensively they're still bad and slow. I'd put that number at 2.
two is pretty low but i basically agree....mason to me is the guy who can have a 40 save game in march but isn't going to have five or six great games in a single series....much less a playoff run
lol they went to the cup with michael leighton and brian boucher. they can't make the cup because their scoring is too inconsistent and their defense is bad
actually their goals for and against are very similar to that season
but if their defense or offense arent quite good enough thats when you need a goalie to steal you a series or two....i dont see mason being that guy...hes not bryz who is going to implode but hes not a goalie who is going to elevate the rest of their team either
Weber might be back the market because the preds have a slew of young dmen and theyre up against the cap. Pinnach or Carichidi wrote a blog saying the flyers would part with anyone but Giroux. Supposedly the guy Morin they drafted last season is getting rave reviews and they don't want to move him. Personally I'd give up one of roily her Brayden Schenn or Courterier, Laughton, Luke Schenn and a pick. Flyers probably wouldn't give up their first this season since the draft is in Philly so that might limit them a bit. Webers keys them a legit cup contended in my opinion.
Nashville already paid the lion's share of the money, so I can't imagine they'd trade him at this point.
Guess who else has a lot of money...you're uncle Ed.

Had to laugh at Lecavalier's winning goal. Hell of a comeback, though.
Flyers made a trade with the Isles for dmen Andrew Macdonald
traded a Phantom, a 2nd and 3rd for him......pretty much the same thing Homer dealt for Grossmann. This guy leads the league in blocked shots though
looked at the nhl standings for the first time all season and saw that the flyers are in 5th place
i thought they were one of the worst teams in hockey based on how you will bitch about them all the time.
thats cause they were hideous to begin the year
so theyre going to make the playoffs and lose in the 1st or 2nd round
where have i seen this before
probably wont even make the playoffs but yeah if they make it they are toast early
Typical Holmgren trade. Gives up a 2nd and 3rd for a player with an expiring contract. I cant wait to see how he gives him a NTC and overpays by 5million after the season
i never heard of him until yesterday but seems like the consesnus is that hes terrible
The consensus from flyer fans is that he is terrible defensively other than blocking shots. But the immediate reaction from the homers is 2nd and 3rd rounders never pan out so its a good trade. I don't understand that thought process at all. To me picks, and Scouting are how you build a winner, but what do I know.
aint no homer like a flyer homer
I just don't understand how after all these years and the same old outcomes, they still think you win by acquiring washed up players at a steep price.
On a happier note.

Great game last night until the 3rd period, which I think anybody who has watched them the past few years could see coming.
some good things are happening for them right now though, Giroux has elevated his play the past 30 games or so and Voracek came back from the Olympics playing well. Simmons has been really good all season. I still hope Hartnell DIAF though.
MacDonald had a good game last night. Made a few decent plays with the puck in the defensive zone. He looks like he has above average mobility which is good.
I think the biggest part of MacDonalds game I noticed was that Schenn's game looked better. They just seemed in synch with eachother, good outlet passes. Hartnell is just awful anymore. Guy falls down all over the place with no one around him. He's incapable of board work.
the day hartnell leaves cant come soon enough

QuoteThat third round pick, which is a 2014 pick, will become a second rounder if the Bruins a) make the Eastern Conference Finals with Meszaros playing two-thirds of Boston's games or b) if Boston re-signs Mesz before the 2014 Draft. If neither of those things happen but Meszaros re-signs with Boston after the Draft, the Flyers will keep the third rounder and get an additional 2015 4th round pick.
healthy scratch last night for Boston

What a bullshtein non goal.
jagr brodeur still better than the flyers
just a great play by coburn
luke paul coffey schenn to vinnie for a great goal
After scoring 4 on him yesterday, Flyers put up 3 on Fleury in the 1st period and chased him from the game

luckily theres no pens fans on this board or theyd post a picture of him holding the stanley cup
that said the flyers looked really impressive this weekend....pittsburgh is a shell of themselves with all the injuries but the flyers were as fundamentally sound as they have been in a long long time
he's a gigantic flag.
so was lindros....but one has a cup
Lindros at least got drunk and banged strippers from Delilahs, Crosby snuggles up to mylittleponies.
Great effort in both games, but today was impressive in that the Pens were going all out, and the Flyers did well. That first goal was flukey, but they kept playing. And how dirty is Malkin. Headhunts Couturier, then throws elbows and punches at Simmonds all within a minute, while being offside for what could have been the gtg by Crosby. Not only was Malkin half a mile off sides, Stempniak was about a yard deeper than Malkin was.
All in all, the Pens are really banged up, but the flyers did what they had to do.
The fake/fraud/etc Claude Giroux has more points over the last 3 seasons than anyone in the NHL, according to what JJ just said
cut him !
Wow...4 seconds left in OT and Giroux scored....that was great
the fraud wins it !!
What an incredible game. They go down by 2 early, Emery looked rusty. They fought their way back. Absolutely dominated the 3rd, can't believe they couldn't get it past Raanta. They get outplayed in OT then Giroux the superstar nails it home with 4 seconds left.
yeah that was a playoff game last night
gotta give it to homer macdonald has been fantastic so far...gigantic improvement on d
last night was the third straight game where the defense did not make any agregious turnover which is incredible fort his team...in fact other than schenn making a couple boneheaded turnover at the hawks blueline in the first period they played another mostly flawless game
this team still isnt going anywhere but they may actually make the playoffs

how bout this team
Mason is playing out of his gourd right now.
This has been a hell of a five-game streak. PenguinsX2-Blackhawks-Stars-Blues.
When Mason is on his game, this team can beat anybody.
Have to agree with IGY, they overpayed for Macdonald, but he's worth it. Holy shtein has he improved Schenn's game. And i'm thankful as hell that they didn't try to get Kesler for Brayden Schenn, he's finally finding his hands. One thing that cant be overlooked is Hartnells play, he's been instrumental in the recent streak with his physical play, not to mention getting on the board.
What it boils down to is they are putting together a stretch of games that no one thought they were capable of, and they just keep pushing. Talk about two different teams this season
cant wait for this game tonight.....primetime in the garden....philly new york....LETS DO THIS!
i cant get over how fast the rangers looked last night....the flyers speed and puck movement has improved a lot this year but last night the rangers were visibly quicker and not just on offense getting to pucks but also defensively giving the flyers no room to breath...even in the neutral zone
really impressive first period
well that was embarrassing
after watching two bruin games in full this weekend i am super impressed.....they are methodical in a deadly way....nothing jumps out except for the fact that are ALWAYS in the right spot making the right play in all three zones
they even dominated defensively on a two minute 5 on 3 penalty kill today
this is going to be one of these 15 shot, no goal finishes for the flyers
other than that terrible goal by mason the flyers have played about as well as they can today
if they ever faced the bruins i feel like the flyers would lose 4-0 with every game basically being like today....3-2 3-1 boston
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS
wow i jinxed the bruins with praise what an awful turnover at the blueline by erikkson
Vinny! Weak. Cmon.
farg
The B's just do a great job of swallowing up players on the ice whether its incidental interference or blocking lanes. IGY you're right, they're flashy, they're methodical.
Good to get the point. Mason let in a softy, but also made some great saves to keep them in it.
Still hate the farging shootout.
Not a fan of the shootout either. The Flyers earned that point as did the Bruins but giving an extra point because of some gimmicky crap is just the worst.
Flyers got dominated in the last half of the second period. Emery and the post are keeping them in this game.
how many times have they missed a wide open net the last few games.
also, elevate the puck.. thanks.
offense really stepping up for this stretch run....if they don't watch it they could get boston in the first round....not that it would really matter cause the other choice is the rangers
0 goals in 2 games plus an overtime/SO probably isn't going to get it done. they are definitely cruising for a first round exit and will continue to do so until they get a compliment to giroux so he doesn't get raped to death every time he's on the ice against good defenses. 35 year old lecavlier isn't going to cut it, though he has looked better since being put back in the center.
.
before the last two games they were moving the puck incredibly well....then all of a sudden its like they started playing drunk or something and no one can even keep the puck on their stick
well hopefully they sobered up because they need two points today. none of that hey we got one point but it's a good team so that's ok.

yup. at least he stayed on his feet a little more in this one. boston physically dominated them and the flyers really have no chance to get to their bread and butter which is a working a goal in up close.
yeah its sick how strong every boston player is....whether is strong on their skates physically strong or both...they just dominate the flyers whose "strongest" players (hartnell and simmonds) cant stay upright
theres a huge difference in hockey between strength and size and the flyers personify that difference...they are a very big team but they arent a strong team

The mini-lunge probably got him the match. Keith Jones is expecting a suspension, but we'll see what happens.
In this day and age, and with Rinaldo's "reputation," I'd expect 2-3.
Rinaldo gets 4 games. (http://www.csnphilly.com/hockey-philadelphia-flyers/rinaldo-suspended-4-games-hit-vs-sabres)
looked like a minor league game for good stretches.. but hey, playoffs.

flyers have 41 wins and 91 pts with three games left
red wings have 38 wins and 90 pts with three games left
blue jackets have 41 wins and 89 pts with three gams left
four round one possibilities still exist (actually six do but im assuming columbus does not pass the rangers)
flyers at rangers - (status quo....this is where they sit now...in the division 2-3 match up)
flyers at bruins - (columbus and detroit would have to pass the flyers putting them into the wild card 2 position)

he was then....and I give him full credit for coming back hard....but lets see if hes jekyll or hyde in the playoffs this year....hes the key as far as whether they have a prayer vs the rangers or bruins...he has to be an mvp like he was against the pens not a schmuck like he was against he devils
It's okay. We know you really didn't mean it.

rangers have 44 wins and 93 pts with two games left
flyers have 41 wins and 91 pts with three games left
red wings have 38 wins and 90 pts with three games left
blue jackets have 41 wins and 89 pts with three gams left
four round one possibilities still exist (actually six do but im assuming columbus does not pass the rangers)
flyers at rangers - (status quo....this is where they sit now...in the division 2-3 match up)
flyers at bruins - (columbus and detroit would have to pass the flyers putting them into the wild card 2 position)
flyers at penguins - (flyers would have to be passed by columbus but still finish ahead of detroit in the wild card 1 position)
rangers at flyers - (flyers would have to pass the rangers and finish in 2nd place in the division)
rangers have 44 wins and 93 pts with two games left
flyers have 41 wins and 91 pts with three games left
red wings have 38 wins and 91 pts with two games left

caps and devils both eliminated last night
TB's goalie has been ridiculous tonight
All time bad defense on tampas second goal.. puck bounces off hartnells back without him noticing when he does his one and only almost passable "skill" by camping in front of the net. But hey they had elevendy billion shots and chances again.
flyers doing their best to play themselves into a first round sweep at the hands of the bruins where they might not score ten goals in the series
1. blue jackets have 42 wins and 91 pts with two gams left
2. flyers have 41 wins and 91 pts with two games left
3. red wings have 38 wins and 91 pts with two games left

Lolol
The crowd went nuts on that one. There were a decent amount of Flyers fans there last night but any LETS GO FLYERS chants got drowned out pretty quick, and it was hard to get excited about anything until TB scored on their own net
Columbus and Detroit both lost in regulation tonight, so the Flyers clinch 3rd if they win at Pittsburgh
flyers dont want D3 they want W1.....they cant beat boston or new york.....their only chance to win a round is to face pitt
Penguin fans want no piece of the Flyers in the playoffs whatsoever. Although they are focused on the idea of the Flyers pulling the bottom seed and getting cast off to the Atlantic (which would require the Pens to beat them tonight), rather than rooting for the Pens to lose to trap the Flyers in the D3.

Goddamn Emery blows. Hope Mason's OK. Bring on the Rangers

Odds of beating the Rags can't be good but at least it's not the Bruins where the chance of victory would be literally 0% right now. One more meaningless game and then the real season begins...

wait you actually think they can win more than one round?
Giroux just went off the ice on one leg after blocking a puck.
False alarm. Back on the ice.
Hartnell just assaulted a cane, though.
you gotta wonder why giroux was even playing

Holmgren being Holmgren: Macdonald resigned for six years 30 mill
Don't mind this one bit. They need a #1 defenseman but they're not readily available...Macdonald is an upgrade over what is currently on the roster. Timmonen is a dinosaur. You know a guy is decent when you pair him with a mo talent slug like Luke Schenn and Schenn starts to resemble a decent player.
i think hes better than most people think but i also think its a bad contract...reagrdless of how you feel i laughed at this...
QuoteThe Philadelphia Flyers apparently liked what they saw out of defenseman Andrew MacDonald after they acquired him from the New York Islanders. With unrestricted free agency looming, they cut him a 6-year, $30-million deal to remain on the Philly blue line.
MacDonald was acquired by the Flyers around this year's trade deadline on March 4 from the NY Islanders, and since joining the team, has four assists in 19 games and recorded over 20 minutes of ice-time in 14 of those games, including a Flyers-high of 28:49 at Pittsburgh on Apr. 12. The 6-1, 190-pound defenseman led all NHL players in blocked shots this season with 242 and was one of three players in the NHL with over 200 blocks.
So, he plays over 20 minutes and excels at doing something that will eventually lead to an injury that will have him playing zero minutes.
OK then.
It's the hockey world's default setting to be critical of any contract handed out by the Flyers, but that's because they make it so easy. MacDonald just went from making $550,000 to making $5 million next season. Think about your salary; think about that exponential increase. Now pick your jaw off the floor.
Granted, this is NHL economics, so the prevailing wisdom is that SOMEONE would have given him the money, but that's next exactly a sterling defense of a deal that has an average defenseman locked up for six years with a $5 million annual cap hit.
In 19 games with the Flyers, the numbers show they've been a better team with MacDonald off the ice. It was the same case last season when MacDonald was with the Islanders, too. Broad Street Hockey attempted to pinpoint the problem in the neutral zone, but being a turnstile at the blue line doesn't seem like a correctable aspect of his game.
The money is what it is. It's the Flyers and the cap's rising. But six years is a lot of years for Andrew MacDonald. And that's now two Islanders defensemen that the Flyers are building their defense around.
He's a much better player than I thought he would be. It's just the money factor. He wanted a 5 year deal from NYI, and Homer said Six it is.
at least hes not 31
i can only go by the few games hes played with the flyers and ive been impressed (altho he has tailed off from his start) but the broad street article on his neutral zone play that the piece i just posted references is a pretty brutal and depressing takedown of him....i also dont like that every single islander fan ive heard from has pretty much echoed the same thing......that he stinks
There was a better d-man signing today: the entry-level contract for Ghost

they cant win in ny anyway...might as well save mason for the home games then hope for a miracle game seven
LEGGOOOOOOOO
who the hell is ken daniels....ultimate talking head
hopefully the rangers play like that guy sang
what a play by hartnell
about as good as you can expect....flyers need to clean up their outlet passes...not only is it causing turnovers but its preventing them from getting into the offensive zone with any speed
They look out of sync
Quote from: SD on April 17, 2014, 07:49:52 PM
They look out of sync
i thought they were generally solid in the first....its really ugly right now tho
Of course you did
They looked just as bad as they do now...they lucked into a goal otherwise this game has been all Rangers
flyers led in puck posession in the first period...completely dominated faceoffs...overall played solid...not great
this period has been a train wreck until the last minute or two
read had the top of the net calling
Flyers had the forecheck going in the first period a few times, gave them a few opportunities. Second period has been 90% Rangers.
And Timmonen seems to be hurt.
This crowd is lame
the end of this period will mark 160+ straight minutes for giroux in madison square garden without a SHOT
thats almost impossible to do
Yeah, he's been pretty invisible tonight.
And farg Schenn for cancelling what would have been the first power play.
gotta take advantage of this
First half was OK, but the second half was very nearly a disaster.
Unfortunately, just seems like a matter of time tonight.
this is like 100 other flyer playoff games in the last 15-20 years....the tie game that feels like they are losing and that you know they have zero chance to win
Well that's probably game
what an assinine penalty...but i blame that on berube....akeson should not have been in the lineup
Yep
Crippling penalty. Agreed that's on the coach who outs a rook into that situation
My guess is this is Akeson's first and last game of these playoffs.
And that's game.
Jeez.
jesus that was beautiful
giroux should be ashamed of himself

That and take an awful penalty after the dumb rookie just torpedoed the game.
Outshot in the 3rd 11-1 I believe
game was over anyway...i just hope the other penalty doesnt turn into the only talking point of the game and drowns out how badly beaten the flyers were in all facets...its embarassing how dominant the ranger defense has been...the really depressing part is that even if the flyers can even out the play somewhat they still are completely outclassed in goal...i just dont see how they cant score more than a goal or two in any game of this series
so the flyers dont have a good enough goalie and they are trying to emulate the broad street bullies 1970s outdated goon hockey
is it still 1995 96 97 97 99 2000 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 2010 11 12 13
chief starting the kid
i hope that replay of the penalty wasn't really the penalty
smartly the rangers strategy so far this series is to make emery move side to side...his lateral movement is a joke
I think most of their shots have been pretty unstoppable even if he sucks side to side but it was really emphasized there. That shot was flubbed and he still didn't get there.

well part of the reason that they all look like impossible to stop beautiful plays is because the entire net is open cause the goalie is nowhere near where he needs to be...is even the quickest goalie going to stop all of those no....but emery is stopping none of them and the rangers know it
btw is it possible to rebuild a team that isnt old?
rangers score again its time to bring the heet
man did they need that
Nice play by Voracek, but the Flyers are just outgunned. Without Mason, there's no chance. With Mason? .0000001% chance.

their only chance was for giroux to play like he did against the penguins two years ago....unfortunately what they are getting is giroux from the devils series last year....when your not the better team you need your best player to be the best player in the series and you need good goaltending
they have neither
Nice!! Akeson
That Schenn goal was beautiful...nice comeback
Take the lead and then immediately take a dumb penalty....should end well
Simmonds!
Great defensive effort in the third period - the Rangers really didn't have a serious chance to score. And kudos to Emery for keeping out any chances there were.
Now we get to see if Mason can be un-dizzy by Tuesday night.
Emery stepped that up big time the last two periods.
when emery can square up the shooter hes pretty damn good.....played a great game....nice adjustment by chief to squeeze the perim eter and force the rangers to play up the middle versus the outside of the ice where they can get ray ray to move a lot
we have a series ladies and gentleman.....cept wheres the captain
if the flyers somehow win this series would anyone be down to do a roadie for the second round for a weekend game in shteintown or columbus

cool story bro.
will the captain register a shot tonight ?
i love the story in the paper today about how he might get some relief now since they have the last change at home and can avoud girardi/mcdonough
im thinking this guy is supposed to be a superstar...shouldnt he be giving the rangers top defense some problems...i know all are good players and im not saying giroux should be getting three pts a night but come on
yeah i saw that too but hasn't he been shotless for the season at MSG ?
he had a couple shots in the first game up there...but i dont think hes had one for over three games now
the league went out of its way to give this series a crazy schedule and moved this game to a prime time start yet put the game on cnbc
.20 seconds in and the crowd is already louder than at any point in the games at New York
rinaldo with more sog tonight against the rangers than giroux has had in the last four games against them
what the farg was timmonen doing
simmons has taken some really bad penalties this series...flop or not you cant go back at him after the initial hit...both refs are on the play already
maybe a pp can get giroux involved....then again maybe not

flyers were being suffocated 5 on 5 then all of a sudeen went off
I don't like Dorsett either.
holy shtein what a shot
gotta wait for a reaply but that sure looked like a trip on simmonds that they missed
car bomb doing car bomb things
hartnell is a complete waste of life
holy shtein what a gift call
carcillo deserved that
Wow. That's a helluva payback by that goofball midget Carcillo
Rags defense is on fire. Every shot is contested
Emery experiment has ended. Can't move side to side well enough. Played well game 2. Roll the dice with Mason. Rangers have been great blocking shots.
Where is Roman Chechmanek or Robert Esche?!
rangers are a shot blocking team...everyone apparently knows this except for the flyers.....they insist on taking shots from just inside the blueline....they need to try and work the circles....the ranger defense is way back and the and forwads are ultra aggresive...there is all kinds of space in btwn
Christ this is ugly.
This game sucks. Hope Mason is over the dizzy spells for game 4.
flyers have 5 goals in three games....which is what i thought they might have for the entire series so i guess they are playing above expectations
Six.
I hate west coast games on work nights.
Yeah, it really is a shame they moved the Wells Fargo center out to LA.
Quote
According to CSN's Tim Panaccio the Flyers have added Scott Laughton to their playoff roster.
thats actually really exciting news altho i cant imagine he would play until they are down 3-1....but id love to see him for the next couple games
I think the flyers start well...actually score first...maybe even lead after one....then lose
Wonder if the rangers change their attack style with mason and not emery.
definitely how they attack the net itself...emery you try to move....mason you look to go high....especially glove side
kate smith first round is a travesty

scratch everything I said....and replace it with the rangers are superior to the flyers on every possible level
nice kate smith pull idiots
Flyers can't put shots on net. Two shots uncontested in the slot on the PP and neither even hit the net. The ones that are on track the rangers block.
their complete inability to get any speed thru the neutral zone is the killer....but yeah that slot miss by streit has to be on net
the ranger d play at center ice like its their own blueline
What is it with the dudes coming out of the box to score? Jeez
Yes!

lost a unit on the period but other than that I guess im ok with the result
Thought Mason looked pretty good that period. Rest of the team not so much.
i thought they played slightly better than last game but im hardly encouraged
what a gorgeous redirect
Yeah that was pretty + a great look.
lot of people will try and get that low either five hole ot under an elbow...but voracek knew the pass was slow and that king would be in position so he roofed it...the only option he had
I really dislike that little dope Dorsett
I want someone to break his face
lol @ slinky neck.
still sometimes when I see raffl I think its gagne
Read should have taken that shot instead of passing to Giroux
Take the shot and let Giroux get the rebound
whoa nelly
mason standing on his head
for now they should move akeson up to 1L lw but next game im totally serious when I say id bench harts and put laughton up there with giroux and jake
Giroux makes his first good play of the series and hartnell shanks it from six feet......DIE

I always enjoy stadium wide chants. Especially profane ones.

god damn right. farg him !
Haha that was awesome
come on flyers farging win this....if for no other so that I can watch blues blackhawks 3p uninterrupted
LETS DO THIS!!!
big faceoff here
what the farg did simmons just do

Mason has been really good.
Let's finish this off
farg NYC
yes yes yes yes yes yes
wooooo
Whew.
Great game by Mason.
rangers are the better team but the one thing they dont do is score so you always have a chance
should be 2-1 games the rest of the way
Still need Giroux to play better. He's been doing little things fine but you need more than that.
like perhaps score?
That would be nice.
Quote from: ice grillin you on April 25, 2014, 09:50:52 PM

I'd settle for passing the puck better, he's been farging horrible. I'll regret saying this later if they can go deeper in the playoffs but when he got injured earlier my first thought was "oh well".
Mason was a stud. The amazing thing about playoffs is when you get a performance like that from your goalie the rest of the team believes and raises their level of play.
yeah giroux all series has had trouble doing things like simply keeping the puck on his stick...how many times has he fumbled the puck receiving a pass or had the puck fall off his blade carrying the puck
(http://d3j5vwomefv46c.cloudfront.net/photos/large/850019198.gif?1398476147)
That was all kinds of awesome.
watching this pens blue jackets series is such a tease....these teams are not any good and the flyers could beat either one if they can somehow get by the rangers
tomorrow is so huge
agreed -- would love to see MAF again in a playoff series.
If they win tomorrow you have to think they take the series. I don't think they win though.
i agree about tomorrow....i also think no one is winning two games in a row in this series and the flyers lose a game seven
the only caveat is that games sevens really do stand on their own....so i give them a legit shot if it indeed goes to that...i just don't think they win it
The way they're playing thus far, you won't have to worry about a game seven.
Their pp is pathetic
Soft ass goal Mason let in
Another softie but saved by an awful call by the ref
Haha straight robbed
Mason allowing way too many rebounds
Huge uncle mo shift here if they can score off that screw job call
PP is a mess.
Giroux can't even stay on his skates right now.
They all look hungover
Yeah the PP isn't very good...I mean, shoot the farging puck!
Giroux is nonexistent

Holy shtein how bad were they after the giroux goal. What should have been a minute and a half of 6 on 5 was that shtein.

Anyone have a good feeling about tomorrow? I feel kind of iffy. Think NY is probably 60% or so to win. Really need Mason to duplicate today. No soft goals 5 mins in.

Flyers lose 3-1. There's the whole momentum factor but they haven't used that to their advantage this series, don't think they'll start now.
i agree...rangers will win 3 or 4 to one in a game that might not even be that close...
If they play the way they played last night and Mason is anywhere close to last night they'll win.
Tall order, though.
farg it. I'm all in with these iceholes.
i think they have a def chance to win...id make it around where legendz put it...at about 60-40 rangers...so its not like i dont think they flyers have a solid chance...i just think the rangers are going to lock it down
one thing i can guarantee is the under....i will be all over that
QuoteWayne Simmonds scored three goals as the Flyers avoided elimination in their first-round series against the Rangers with a 5-2 win in Game 6. He's the first NHL player to record a hat trick in a playoff game in which his team could have been eliminated since 2012, when the Penguins' Jordan Staal scored three goals in Pittsburgh's 10-3 victory in Game 4 of its first-round series against the Flyers. Simmonds is the fifth Flyer to score three goals in a playoff game in which Philadelphia was on the brink of a postseason exit. The others were Rosaire Paiement (1968), Rick MacLeish (1975), Brian Propp (1981) and Peter Zezel (1986).
Man I miss Zezel. He was a crazy farger back when we were the youngins.
the mullet team
Crossing Broad was doing a story about the fights breaking out last night at the game. In one of the comments Chad Pradelli from action news asks for witnesses to call him for a story he's doing on it.

Hey, there's still 5 guys left from that team (6 if you include Pronger)
I hate game sevens. I'm all nervous and wound up right now and I am like 100% certain that they will lose. But I'll watch and scream and drink about it anyway, in spite of my pessimistic certainty because hey, what the farg do I know?
My liver hates game sevens. Then again it's not a fan of Tuesdays so it can go farg itself. LETS GO FLYERS
its been such a strange series...we are about to have a game seven and only one game has been decided by one goal theres been no OT's
also neither team has won consecutive games....last night was the only game where the total went over six....i just dont think much changes tonight
3-1 rangers
altho i have to say eazy's well thought out and sanity based game seven argument almost swayed me

Other than the drink, this is pretty much what I'm going to do. I love game sevens... unless they involve a Philly team. Then it's all stress.
flyers have held their own so far...been outplayed but not overwhelmed
love raffl up here instead of hartnall
its game seven you stupid farg
retard
Rinaldo got away with one borderline late hit, he wasn't going to get away with a second one that was more egregious. Moron.
you shouldnt even think about big hits in a game like this outside of the offensive zone...playing smart is way more important than playing physical.....what are you going to wear them down for game 8
damn....come on vin rock

maybe a big hit for a turnover but anything that could be questionable especially by a guy who does not get the benefit of the doubt is asinine for a game 7.
jesus masons glove.
giroux needs to stop being so cute with it and hartnell needs to sit on the bench the rest of the game.
Mason got away with a stupid move trying to throw the puck there at the end. Overall he's been good, though.
Defensemen need to spend the summer practicing their tape to tape passes. Or maybe they're just color-blind.
holy jesus that pass by hartnell was a joke
im not one to ever think announcers are biased against my own team and i think hes a great announcer in general but good god does eddie olczyk hate the flyers....whenever he does the flyers its like hes still doin penguin games and doesnt realize hes now on national tv
very encouraged by that period....thought flyers would be down....its a 50/50 game now...flyers could use a PP
ready for my first hockey game of the year
question: how is the lindros-leclair-renberg line going to attack richter? can desjardins handle messier?

their passing the entire year has left quite a bit to be desired. i wasn't sure what that was with mason throwing it in the middle like that... it seemed clear and the homer announcers played it off as him being comfortable.. but there's a fine line between comfortable and careless. with such a little time left just do the face off instead of taking the risk in game 7.
Mason tried to throw the puck to keep it moving so there wasn't a defensive zone face off with 2 seconds or so. Still wasn't the best plan.

I know why he did it, but it was a boneheaded move.
And Coburn has been a disaster most of this series. Bad turnover after bad turnover.
mason would have never seen the puck until the second period if hartnall doesnt make a blind backhand pass at center ice with nine seconds left
farg.
Pathetic display. Piss poor movement & horrendous puck discipline.
So. Sloppy. Defensively. Unforced turnover and then Coburn stands and watched.
wow that 16 for 16 number is crazy....game pretty much over
under = lock
sad dunno why i'm even watching this team get spanked.
why is rinaldo on the first line
Lots of Flyers' passes are "just away from him," Emery Emerick... :boom
Edit: Whoops.
can someone murder mike emerick please
Hartnell eats balls
holy shtein that was crazy
rangers just destroying them now
hartnell with and another terrible neutral zone turnover
piece of garbage, i can't stand that icehole. besides the fact that he is just not good at hockey the only player that can't stay on his feet more is giroux.
think about this
dan carcillo is probably going to end up with the same number of goals this series as fraud giroux
Hey, another power play to screw up!
why is hartnell on the PP still. a demotion from the first line should be auto removed from special teams.
Mason has been great again. A couple of those sequences were phenomenal
Come on power play....shtein
lol 7 games later still can't figure out how to fake a shot or set up a play.

Well...farg
Keep rinaldo on the ice fargtards

horrid. another sad assed philly team. not sure how you can be a team that relies on mashing, smashing and being physical... but be this dominated in all facets.
i dont think this is chief line juggling...i think raffl is hurt
no there he is....wonder if he had an equip problem
probably just over managing their lack of simple skills such as passing.

mason is out of his mind
It is a miracle the rangers only scored twice there. 16 chances in one period??
May as well get some schoolwork done, they aren't scoring a goal tonight. They're not even making Lundqvist break a sweat.
Mason is unfreakingbelievable. It's a shame that he's playing behind these goddamn shrinking violets.
in philly fashion they finally get a goalie and .... no one else shows up. girouxxxx's
flyers are now what 1-13 in their last 14 games at the garden?...this probably should have been fully expected...shtein im hater number 1 and i even gave them to much of a chance to win
only easy thought they had a good chance and that was because they beat the caps in a game seven in 2008
they played a relatively even first period. I actually thought if they were going to get beat NY would just all over them from the beginning. After stemming the tide a little in period 1 I figured they had a decent shot. Then the second period was probably their worst in the series (and the flyers had the 2 PPs in that period and were STILL completely destroyed -- I think the Rangers had more shorthanded scoring chances than the flyers did on the PP).
they weren't winning the cup so who cares anyway. too many has been's and never will be's. their ok at a bunch of things but excel at nothing except maybe goalie now. their not getting 2 or 3 passed mr 97% save percentage is the bottom line, and their not skillful or tough enough to get through or figure out a good defense to even get shots through to him.
Yessss
Come on!
Come on you iceholes!
HEAT
Rangers letting them back into the play. Of course, the idiots have to capitalize. They need Giroux to get off his playoff choke.
All these Flyers' third liners suddenly think they're Wayne Gretzky.

yeah they are forever going to be in mediocrity...they arent nearly bad enough to rebuild and they arent nearly good enough to tweak
If that's Timonen's last shot as a Flyer, it's a fitting sendoff.
lol - they can't even get it into the zone with 6 farging skaters on the ice.

meh. They overachieved and the Rangers were the better team. Go Western Conference
(Not that anyone gives a shtein, but the Flyers have the #17 pick in the draft)

No interesting nightlife in texico?
Meh... unfortunately, the better team won. Mason gave them a fighting chance, but they couldn't get anything going offensively. Can't say I ever really had hope after the Rangers went up 2-0.
My son's reaction was a lot like mine when the Eagles' lost to the Raiders in Super Bowl XV. Bitter tears. That bothered me more than the loss itself.
I wish I had more faith in Holmgren, but he's only slightly better than Amaro.

May also watch a bit more of the NBA playoffs when I have the TV on. Time is limited in May, though. Busiest month of the school year.

he's career -14 +/- with 11 goals in 9 years in the playoffs minus his one good year in 2009-2010 to which you can add 8 goals and a +4 if u wish. i do not wish to do that.. i only wish to know why the farg you amnesty briere (who actually showed up in the playoffs no matter how big bad and mean the defense was) instead of this colossal waste of space hartnell then sign another in lecavlier to sit on the bench next to where retard hartnell should have been. hartnell is going to be older and somehow slower at age 32 next year. awesome.
The Flyers should have won another Stanley Cup by now
Yep they sure should have. 1975 and counting.
QuoteThe Flyers' all-time win percentage of 57.8% (as of the 2013–14 NHL season) is the second best in the NHL, behind only the Montreal Canadiens' 58.9%. Additionally, the Flyers have the most appearances in the league semi-finals (known as the conference finals since the 1981–82 season) out of all 24 expansion teams (16 appearances, winning 8), and they are second behind the St. Louis Blues for the most playoff appearances out of all expansion teams (37 out of 46 seasons)

His awful contract was up so Homer signed him to a 6 year extension. Idiot. Hartnell isn't the real problem, it's the organIzation thinks players like him will win them a cup. The slow, no skill, agitator type. He's their vision of what they think the fans want. It's amazing.
Did Vinny play this series? Glad he's under contract for another 4 years. Only chance we as fans have is if Ed dies and someone with a new vision takes over.

THIS... Briere was useless 78 games out of the regular season, but he was worth every penny in the post season. I'll still say, letting Jagr go was one of the dumbest moves this team had made from a simple team aspect.
What they need to do is let Kimmo sail off to finland. I'd say sign him to a one year deal, but Holmgren will instinctively give him 4 years. Hagg/Ghost/Morin are good young prospects. Hagg sounds like the best shot to make it out of camp. Morin is by all accounts a two years from being NHL ready if ever. Tons of talent, but I don't trust the flyers to develop him correctly once they get him from Jrs. Laughton makes the team, replaces hall or whoever. Vinny sucks and should just be given a seat in the building with a stack of cash.
keep mason, trade the rest of the team.
in no way am i defending the hartnell deal....but in comparison to the vin rock signing it looks like the best move homer ever made...hartnell at least was coming off a year in which he approached 40 goals played a position of need and was 29
vin rock had been deteriorating for a couple years was 32 and played a position that they were loaded at with laughton coming fast....it was a train wreck all around not just a player already on the downside of his career and moving in that direction fast but it showed a clear fundemental lack of understanding in how the salary cap works...you dont give vin rock 5 mill a year when you could have scott laughton for less than a mil
homer has to go but if he doesnt they at least need to hire a cap guy...someone who can give push back when homer wants to go off the reservation with a contract offer

This. Exactly farging this. Is there a more useless player in the league than a $5 mil/year has-been who's riding the pine and eating up a roster spot that could be filled by young talent? farging hell.
Vinny had zero offers on the table, Holmgren said how much do you want, and signed a check. It's just idiotic, and Snider has zero clue what's going on. I just hope Hextall takes a larger role, just look at the Kings.
