Title: Week 5: Eagles at Giants
Post by: reese125 on October 01, 2013, 07:35:42 PM
the giants o-line is as banged up as ever, but it wont matter as they still have nicks and cruz who i think have a field day here

manning gets back on track and take this one late in the 4th q as two bad teams go at it

30-27 giants

Giants will be 0-5 after this game.

Eagles 28
Giants 13

Eagles front seven will pressure Eli enough to take the heat off the secondary.  Giants won't get a run game going, they'll be playing from behind.  Eagles offense will play well and score points.

I think this is a somewhat important game for Kelly.  The Eagles aren't going anywhere, but with Dallas losing last week, they're still very much in the race for the division.  So this game will say a lot about him, imo.  It's a big game vs a wounded division rival and is probably as close to a "must win" game Kelly's going to get this year.  If the Eagles have no fight like they've shown the last 2 games, Kelly is pretty much farged.

I'm curious to see how Kelly responds to a little adversity and pressure.  He's got a chance to end a 3 game losing streak, pick up his 1st home win, beat the most relevant team in the division (in recent years), and keep pace within the division all at the same time.  I'm 1-3 with my picks for each team this year so something's gotta give.

It's like the embarrassment bowl. Even though the Giant's record is worse, they have fewer holes overall. It's going to come down to pressure on the QB. If the Eagles can get consistent pressure on Manning, they'll win easily, because Manning and the receivers are head and shoulders better than our secondary (in fact, I think our secondary should be call a tertiary, at best). If the Eagles can take advantage of the bad Giants OL, then the Eagles will win. Assuming, of course, that Vick isn't in one of his giving moods with the ball.

But yeah, since it's an away game I'm flip flopping on my pick.

I think Shady is going to have a huge game. 200+ total yards and a couple scores. As long as Chip runs the ball every play and don't let Vick Vick, Eagles put a bunch of points on the board and so do the Giants. 34-27 Eagles.

When I was in undergrad my buddies and I were on a flag football team. I played corner, and in the championship game we played a bunch of guys on the school football team, which was 1-AA. I gave the WR about 15 yards of cushion every play because I knew he'd burn the farg out of me at will.

This is the Eagles' mentality.

So we're in agreement the Giants run the table, make the playoffs, and beat Denver in the Manningbowl, right?

No, we're in agreement the giants suck cork for 3.5 seasons, win the SB, then suck for another 3.5 seasons, SB, repeat.

I would kill each and every one of you for that kind of Eagles success.

I'd come back from the grave so you could kill me again if the farging Eagles would win a Super Bowl. Hell I'll just take one, I'm not that greedy.

Declined the penalty, wasted a timeout before getting screwed out of a second on a challenge. If Andy made so few mistakes per game, he'd still be coaching here.

Nice win yesterday.  The defense is still putrid.   LOL @ the qb controversy brewing.   If Vick wasn't such an indecisive meathead on the field it'd be a no-brainer.  Gotta hand it to Foles for ripping apart the worst defense in the NFL not named the Eagles, though.

First place.

the eagles offense is legit and as soon as they get better in the redzone they are going to be a real problem.

the defense is the defense... the giants helped with a lot of the turnovers yesterday.  they still aren't getting much of a pass rush when they blitz and the corners play too soft for my liking.  i get trying to take away the home run pass but getting dink and dunked to death is more annoying than giving up bombs.

it was a nice win--but how did I guess people would say this about foles today

foles played a legit 0-5 team with a disgusting defense, but he's now the better option? lets see what happens when defenses clamp down on mccoy now that the threat of vick running is not there. foles is not the future, not better than vick and poses way less of a threat in chips offense.

not sure if you saw it yesterday, but there is nothing special about chips offense--it's just different than reid's. instead of the fake play action you now have the fake shotgun handoff

I think it's safe to say that the 2014 starting QB is not currently on the roster.  I'd be fine with starting Foles simply because Vick is what he is.  Foles isn't athletic enough to run Kelly's offense, but he very well could run someone else's.  If nothing else, Foles could improve his trade stock.  I doubt it, but it's a better alternative to running Vick out there every week.

i agree with starting foles although i think beyond a couple of the designed qb run plays he can run this offense. he makes quick decisions and is more accurate. he sees the whole field & throws to the spot unlike vick who seems to wait for a guy to be completely open. not saying he is the answer at qb for the long haul but getting a look at him for the next few weeks isn't a bad thing.

Foles was a better option coming out of training camp, I don't care how good Vick played in pre-season. This isn't the first time it's been said.

I believe that Foles is better. He sees the field better, he's more accurate, gets the ball out quicker, and he doesn't stare receivers down and throw into double coverage.

Quotenot sure if you saw it yesterday, but there is nothing special about chips offense--it's just different than reid's. instead of the fake play action you now have the fake shotgun handoff

This I agree with, which is why I can't figure out why you'd say that Foles is "way less of a threat in Chip's offense". He was better in Ried's offense, he'll be better in Kelley's offense.
Title: Re: Week 5: Eagles at Giants
Post by: ice grillin you on October 07, 2013, 07:02:35 PM
id rather have foles in because its something a little different and i know what i have with vick but lets let foles play against a team that has time to prepare for him....his qb rating is over 100 when he comes inot a game and 80 when he starts....because he doesn't have an arm and cant move he should be super easy to defend because the field becomes so small with him in there

vicks two biggest strengths is that he can stretch the field with his arm and he can run
Title: Re: Week 5: Eagles at Giants
Post by: shorebird on October 07, 2013, 07:06:13 PM
And yeah, those are Fole's biggest weaknesses. He's not going to kill you downfield and he's not running for any first downs, but he can move a little, steps up in the pocket good and can roll out.

I'm just tired of Vick, he brings nothing. I was shocked when Chip named him starter. It's an old story now and we all know how it ends.
Title: Re: Week 5: Eagles at Giants
Post by: QB Eagles on October 07, 2013, 07:06:17 PM
I haven't seen a shred of evidence that Foles gives the team a better chance to win than Vick. The argument for starting Foles, and it's a good one, is that we know what Vick is and we know he won't be around next year. Starting Foles gives you an opportunity to see if this guy can grow into a legitimate starting role or is a perma-backup.

Running Foles out there all season would have been super risky for Chip because Vick clearly outplayed him in the preseason, and if Chip started Foles instead of making the safe move and it backfired big time, he would really look like an incompetent first year coach.

This.  Kolb also probably had the better arm than Foles.  I think Foles can be a good game manager type of a team with the right construction or a very good backup.  I don't see him as the future of the team at QB but I have no problem with him getting spot starts as a backup when needed (or being the QB the rest of this year).

Foles seems to have all of the mental and intangible tools you look for in a QB.  He's poised, doesn't come undone under pressure, isn't afraid of big moments, has a high football IQ, makes quick decisions, takes control of the huddle.

Physically he has great size and is accurate.

But the arm.  The arm is weak.  I like the kid, I really do.  But unless he starts doing some HGH I don't think you can expect his arm to get significantly stronger as time goes on.  You could probably game plan around it to hide his weakness but it won't take defenses very long to adjust to that.  He makes Alex Smith look like Jeff George.

i keep getting back to the fact that even with Vick, chipper didn't take many shots down the field.  i think foles would do fine in this offense.  he's a better decision maker than Vick and that's is huge in this offense

I think he'd be ok, too.  No worse than Vick.  But one thing Vick still gives you is the threat of the run and Foles doesn't.  And Shady has been a big time beneficiary of that.  Vick also does give you the threat of a deep ball and even if the Eagles aren't throwing deep that often, the threat of it forces defenses to respect it and play further off the LOS.  This opens things up underneath and allows for some of these WR screens to pick up big chunks of yardage.  I think a lot of that goes away when defenses know they don't have to worry about anything 25 yds beyond the LOS.

I'm still all for starting Foles, though.  I just don't know how viable he'd be in the long run.  There's limitations on how far you can stretch the field with him and once defensive coordinators get a hold of plenty of film on him and Chip's offense, there's a strong possibility that they'd figure out how to shut it down.
Title: Re: Week 5: Eagles at Giants
Post by: SunMo on October 08, 2013, 08:58:07 AM
i take chip at his word when he says he would design the offense around his qb's strengths.  even with a mobile qb they don't run that much read option.  i think against the giants was the most called qb runs we've seen this year.  i agree that shady is a beneficiary of the threat of Vick running, but there are maybe 5-6 qbs in the nfl that pose that threat and teams still have good running games.  i have to think you can scheme shady into good running plays
