Traded from TB w a 7th for a 6th and a conditional
Cool...I guess

2nd-rd pick a few years ago from Illinois and tore his ACL, and he was injured again last year. Just never got it going in Tampa
Lets hope he bennefits from a change of scenery.
The Eagles gave up Denver's 6th-rd pick from the Bunkley deal and a 7th next year if Benn makes the roster
Meh.
If he's healthy, he'll make the roster.
So I don't have to worry about the Eagles telling me that this year's 6th round pick and next year's 7th are NFL starting material? I already like this trade.
wash dc dunbar high....been following this kid since he was a freshman in high school...he followed shady ass mike locksley to illinois as part of one of the most baffling recruiting classses ever that had even other big ten coaches basically saying something stunk...all i know is he pissed off a lot of maryland fans...and because of that ill always have a soft heart for him
im all IN here
They essentially got him for nothing. I already like him more than Riley Cooper.
It's so cool to hate on Riley Cooper.

you mean easy?
Because he's white, and he's got a feminine hairdo yeah, I get it.
After Maclin, Jackson, and Avant, he's the best reciever on the team. A healthy Benn is probably better, but I don't go in for shteinting all over Cooper every chance I can. I leave that to the hippos.
Also remember this...without Cooper, there's no Miracle in the New Meadowlands...best game of your Philadelphia Eagles fan life.
mostly he stinks but yeah all those other things dont help

lol
I don't even mind the other shtein but he's done nothing the entire time he's been here. Benn has a higher ceiling
This is a throw away move. It means nothing. But he was a highly rated dude out of college so yay?
Trades for special teams...different
Does Benn even play STs? Regardless. Yay?

doesnt make much sense then...riley cooper best attribute is special teams and AB in theory could knock him off the roster...i think like sd said this is a long shot at going for a guys upside...AB is a veteran marvin mcnutt...the next candidate to add a big wr to the mix....they used a 6th rounder last year on mcnutt (6-3 215) in the hopes he would supplant riles (6-3 215) and it didnt quite work out...now they trade a 6th rounder for AB (6-2 225) to do the same thing
eagles hoping AB (arrelious benn) becomes their own little AB (anquan boldin) (6-1 225)

no idea...but i dont think it matters
From what I read he had a good year as a special teams player and did some KR but lost his slot receiver job before his season ending injury, although he apparently had been nicked up since preseason. So it is a possible - Yay?
hes showed flashes of of his 2nd rd ability in 2011 but cant stay healthy due to the prior torn acl surgery, mcl sprains and the other multiple injuries he had so whatever....this is total hey you never know move
the eagles have now scooped up 3 hope for the best big injury guys in chung, phillips and benn
They have also hired a new team doctor and trainer. The MD is just coming back from a stroke and the trainer recently lost a leg in a boating accident.

Cooper's already working on his options:

Pretty much the highlights of Benn's Bucs career

So when they need someone to lose 3-4 yards on an end around, he's their guy...

if he's healthy throughout camp he is the starter--problem is what is likely to happen mid season. He signed for glorified back up money because he didn't have a choice due to his injury history.
look mom i can read!
so can dad

no way Chung will be a back up on this defense.
you thought he was a LOCK starter on march 13...before even a mini camp...which is lol clueless....you have no idea how football works...i told you he wasnt near a lock and five minutes later they signed kenny phillips....this wasnt even a case of opinion...it was strictly common sense and knowing how shtein works
Until they signed another safety it could have easily been argued that Chung was the obvious starter AND that he was a hit or miss huge injury risk signing. So get off each others nuts. Or don't. Who cares.
no rjs it couldnt have been easily argued--youre wrong. so wrong that you dont know how football works. youre clueless.

well christ thats kind of the point....they obviously were going to acquire at least one more safety...its beyong simplistic and again just not knowing how things work to think the eagles would hand a starting position in march to a player like patrick farging chung...jesus christ you two are acting like brian dawkins in his prime is currently their SS...saying patrick chung was anything more than in the mix for a starting job on this team was/is ludicrous
excuse me while i go smash my head thru a big screen tv

It was a joke, for now. But if they can get a good discount on a surgeon with Parkinson's, they're all in.
On a related note, a friend of mine knew the Eagle's chiropractor well. When I went to look him up I didn't see him on the team web pages with the team physicians and such. When I asked why he told me the guy would have had to pay a pretty good fee to have his name on the Eagle's web page so he didn't bother.
Didn't say anything when the trade went down for whatever reason, but I like this. His freshman year was really the last year I played close attention to college football (remember when he was called 'Regis' Benn? name test fail), and I remember all the talk about him being a 5 star recruit with all this potential. After Mendenhall left that Illinois team was a fargin disaster so it's not much of a surprise his #'s were never consistent, but then in Tampa he did basically nothing.. hopefully he's someone who needs a change of scenery. He's a really good fit for an up tempo offense, and a guy Chip probably likes - RAC and good blocker. Wouldn't be surprised if he makes the team over someone like Avant. igy's comparison to Boldin is a good one, that's who everyone compared him to in college. Doubt his hands are as good as Boldin's though.
I don't think Dr. Octopus's hands are as good as Boldin's.
It was a nice way of saying "he probably has stone hands, why else couldn't he crack Tampa's lineup"
i dont want to see avant go anywhere. hes one of the most sure-handed possession receivers in the league.
I agree. Sure he isn't flashy but he is money on third down. Who would have thought that Big Red would have left us with some good WR and RB's and a zesty o-line and d-line with all his talk about how it all starts up front. I do like the moves he has made in KC though.
im not against him per se but avants spot can be fairly easily upgraded and chip def will try....adding benn and casey is already an effort to do so....avants stop drop and roll act isnt gonna work with chipper....i think hed like to see some yac at all his pass catching spots...you could maybe excuse avants inability to run if he was a reliable red zone guy but hes a big guy who cant run AND doesnt score...two td's in the last three years isnt going to cut it...

I agree that Chipper is probably not going to keep him around, but I feel like he has helped the team so many times since he has been here. He seems to come up clutch on 3rd downs so many times. He is the kind of role player that doesn't show up in conventional stats, but is valuable.
Avant has great hands and has a very specific role on this or any team, but he can definitely be upgraded. I'd like to see him stick because he has value in very specific scenarios, scenarios that are important to a team's success, but lets not pretend like replacing him is some kind of surprising or especially noteworthy move.
Denver gets Wes Welker and we get to cheer Jason Hands To Heaven Avant.
And we wonder why the farging Eagles never win the Super Bowl.

haha....its funny because its true
If you go back to Oregon, Kelly's receivers must be able to block CBs and Safeties reliably. If you can't block, you aren't going to see the field. Avant is just one of those guys that gets 100% out of his abilities all the time, he's never going to break a big one, or be catching long bombs, but he has far and away the most reliable hands on the team, and is an above average blocker. If Benn is healthy, he'll knock off Cooper - I don't see Benn as a threat to Avant at all. Benn and Cooper are two guys who have done dick in the league, where Avant has shown he's capable of producing.
avant is the classic player that fans of their own team overrate because they see him in a bubble rather than the big picture of how easy he would be to improve on
this notion that he has some legendary hands is a joke
and i dont wanna hear reliable when it comes to him after the buffalo game two years ago
cooper is a joke but benn has the upside to easily supplant avant...whether his health and play allow that to happen who knows...if andy was still the coach id put my money on avant...but new coach open slate and a new offense takes that advantage away from avant....so its probably a coin flip...
also it doesnt have to be a direct replacement...benn and especially casey dont necessarily have to take avants stop drop and roll slot position they just have to get on the field in a pass catching rotation more than him so that they steal opportunities which would ultimtely make avant irrlevant...caseys play making ability and the places he catches the ball on the field which for the most part mirrors avant (flat and seams) all but assures he will eat significantly into avants allotment of chances...and the huge advantage casey has is the ability to make plays after he catches the ball....
benn or a potential draft pick we will have to wait and see on...but i think its safe to assume if avant comes back and plays the same amount of plays as he did last year it will be because other people failed not because hes got the greatest hands in the history of the nfl
I also don't get why everyone expects Cooper to be gone. He's the biggest WR on the team and probably the best blocking WR. He's been able to go up for some balls in the endzone. Obviously he's not very good and has some stupid fargin hair, but to Chip, Cooper is probably more valuable than Avant.

Agreed. I really like Avant, but he's easy to like because he the "blue collar lunch pale" guy. And fans tend to love those guys. Nothing wrong with that and every team needs a few guys like him on their roster, but it's not like he's the hardest guy on the roster to replace. Big body possession receiver who isn't much of a downfield threat isn't exactly a unicorn in the NFL.
How could a guy named Chip NOT keep a guy named Riley? He'd have to. I'm sure he's also in the market for a Chaz or a Slater.
AB already got extended a year.....dook must have had a hell of an impressive first week in philly finding a place to live
