1 yr deal. Good competition. Good player when healthy, which is never. I like it.
Safety? NY Giants? Or am I completely making up people in my head?
Yep. That's him. Talented, but ALWAYS injured.
Hey, even on one leg, he's still better than Kurt Allen.

Injured to the point where his career was thought to be over a few years back. This has one year written all over it - if he sucks or gets injured again, he's gone and if he plays well and warrants a long term deal, he's gone.
Im not a fan of this - it only helps this year, and when you're staring 5-11 right in the face, Im not sure what a one-year guy does for you.
It's a small stopgap. The main thing is not being forced into starting Allen and Coleman. Give yourself options everywhere. Allows your draft plan to be anything. He could just as easily not even make the team out of camp.
Also, in the event that this team competes for a playoff spot, it's better to go with the gimp than the mongoloid.

Dude is a first rounder who is only 26. This is a good signing since if he can prove that he can still play, they sign him to an extension. If not, not much lost.
Who cares that he was a first rounder? You know who else was? Danny Watkins.
One year deals for teams that are as bad as this one are dumb, I dont care how you analyze it.
Mikey Hates Everything!
except LIFE cereal...
i like this move quite a bit
dook is a significant difference maker when healthy....microfracture is really bad but hes had two really good seasons since that surgery
hurt again last year but i think easily worth the chance....big reward low risk move
I agree, I think it's a low risk move. The guy's a talented playmaker... if you can keep him on the field.
Honestly, I don't think anything will change with him healthwise... he'll be a starter at the beginning of the year, one of those knees will go bad at some point, he'll miss a handful of games and then move on after the season.
I don't have a problem with them taking a shot on a player with his talent though.
if he gets hurt they have a jamasian back up at least
Yeah. Can't lose.
Phillips was decent his first few years in the league. Expectations are low so I can live with a one year deal.
What I like about this is that he's playing for his career. Motivation won't be a question. He's got one shot.
hes a lot better than decent when hes healthy.....he was superb the giants superbowl year and had a excellent superbowl game
hope for the best and expect the worst
Another thing to consider is you need real players at SOME parts of the secondary so you can effectively evaluate the the other players you have. When you sign relatively unproven guys like Fletcher, you can't throw him out in front of a safety pair like Colt Anderson and David Sims last year, he's doomed for failure. Get players. You can't easily fill all your holes with perfect uninjured players who are younger than 26 in one offseason.

exactly
phillips isnt even guaranteed to make the team....but if healthy hes a starting safety and a damn good one....i also like that he can play strong or free
not just corners like you said but imagine how much better a healthy kenny phillips could make nate allen look....this isnt at all to make excuses but since his rookie year hes had to play next to kurt farging coleman

I agree. I still think there's something to be salvaged with Allen. He's underachieved, no doubt but I think there's something there in the right situation. Maybe a change in staff and a quality safety alongside him will bring it out.

absolutely....he can never be your point man at safety...
but next to a leader who can be like - nate dont worry about me dont worry about making a call dont worry about making a mistake just cover ground and make plays on the ball - he still has a chance to be a solid free safety
I like this too.
Here's how its gonna go though...
He'll ball out on this 1yr deal...stay totally healthy and knock bitches out.
He'll get an extension and we'll all be pumped....then the injuries will hit again. Cut after two years on the extension.
on 97.5 with Mikey Miss earlier today (http://www.975thefanatic.com/teams/eagles/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10517574)
Outta here. Couldn't get on the field

I hope he continues to recover and maybe the could take a look at him in case there are any injuries at safety this year.
Haha. I'm not so much worried about the injuries at safety as much as I am about the level of their play even when completely healthy.

Haha - who're you FoxNews?! You left off the good stuff.
At least he didn't get an extension and then have it blow up.
haaa ... the funny part is i actually felt the same way.
unfortunately it looks like another painful year watching a crappy secondary.
This defense is really starting to scare the shtein out of me. This is going to be rough to watch.
