Title: Super Bowl XLVII
Post by: Diomedes on January 23, 2013, 10:23:19 PM
I like both cities.

I like some of the players on both teams.

I'm rooting for Baltimore.  It just makes my life easier.

Also, there are a slew of Baltimore players I wish were Eagles.

Ray Rice
Bernard Pierce
Vonta Leach
Anquan Boldin
Haloti Ngata
Paul Kruger
Torrey Smith
Dannell Ellerbe
Bernard Pollard
Ed Reed
Ray Lewis
Dennis Pitta
Courtney Upshaw

For farg sake, their kicker is great.

All hail Ozzie Newsome.  I hope Baltimore wins just so he can get another ring.

Usually I'd go for Baltimore because they're close but the whole Ray Lewis fiasco has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Go 9ers

Eh, I can probably make a list of reasons to root for or against either team.  Going with Bodymore because farg you.

Tough call. I'll probably go with Baltimore, mostly because John seems like less of a fleshpop than Jim.

i could never root for another team and i cant really find a reason to hate anyone in this game

i really dont like the afc at all so i guess i will root for nfc...i wouldnt hate sf tying the steelers for most superbowls either and hopefully passing them at some point...steelers make me sick

Post by: Sgt PSN on January 24, 2013, 11:37:57 AM
That's the one thing that really pulls me towards SF.....just the fact that Pittsburgh wouldn't be atop the SB win list by themselves.

The downer with Bodymore is that the team hasn't even been around for 20 years yet and would already have their 2nd.

In short, it sucks being an Eagles fan.

Post by: Sgt PSN on January 24, 2013, 11:54:43 AM
That's a given with the divisional rivalry.  That's why the only time I ever take a hard rooting interest in the SB is if an NFC East team is in it and I'm rooting hard against them, more than I'm actually rooting for the opposing team.

In a year like this where I really don't care about either team, I pretty much just go for the team that I pick to win so that I can feel really smart afterwards.  So since I'm picking the Ravens to win, "rooting" for them is really just rooting for myself.

Yeah they are farged either way. And the Steelers own window seems to have closed. Pennsyltuckians are aggressively tuning out football right now. Great time to hate the Steelers.

Quote"I don't do the gay guys man," said Culliver, whose Niners play the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. "I don't do that. No, we don't got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do. Can't be with that sweet stuff. Nah...can't be...in the locker room man. Nah."

Substitute "stillupfront" for gay and you'd have a riot on your hands.

So the symphony orchestra and the NPR station are both on the Ravens bandwagon, that's like 90% of Baltimore's white population accounted for. What's the Johns Hopkins faculty doing to celebrate?

Post by: ice grillin you on February 03, 2013, 11:39:06 AM
last ravens game i went to they were trying to start an eagles chant thing...this guy in one section was literally going down to the ramp and doing r-a-v-e-n-s RAVENS!....it was so pathetic...luckily its never caught on

they also do the key play thing that high schools do where on 3rd down they all jingle their keys

they also have the move those chains chant....

move those chains
move those chains
move those chains
whoof!

they are such a small time sports city its almost cute
Title: Re: Super Bowl LXXVIII
Post by: Sgt PSN on February 03, 2013, 11:49:02 AM
Minny was the same way.  Aside from the fact that their fight song is horrible, they play it after field goals which might be the lamest thing I've experienced live at a sporting event.  And that includes the wave.  And they blow that stupid viking horn after every 1st down.  I'd get it if it's used after big plays.....20 yd run or reception, a defensive take away or maybe even after a sack, but blowing the horn after a QB sneak on 2nd and inches on your own 30 is for the gays.
Title: Re: Super Bowl LXXVIII
Post by: Rome on February 03, 2013, 01:01:24 PM
Re the "move those chains" chant:  Jacksonville has been doing that shtein since the beginning of the franchise.

When the Eagles played them in 2010 and Vick took them up and down the field, me and my guys were doing it until we literally got warned that we'd be thrown out of the stadium if we didn't knock it off.

Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on February 03, 2013, 01:16:39 PM
The Panthers did a growl thing after every first down when I was there in 2003 and it was beyond annoying. Do those of you who were at that game remember that?

Do people really shake their keys?! That's awful

If Baltimore wins the Ray Lewis shtein is going to be insufferable

When Joe Flacco takes the first snap today, the only schools to have more QBs to start in the super bowl than University of Delaware will be Notre Dame, Alabama, Purdue, and California.

There's two things I want to see in this game. First, Ray Lewis crying in defeat. Second, Harbaugh cackling like a madman after icing Akers right before a potential game winning kick, and then Akers crying no matter what happens.

What I meant to say was that stat of being the first Niners QB to throw an int in the Super Bowl isn't that crazy when you consider the two previous who played for SF.  Montana had 4 of the greatest games ever and Young played a flawless game against the Chargers.  Niners nation and yes it was almost 20 years ago have witnessed some incredible QB play.  We got Jaws and his 3 picks to the same dude and Donny lost in the headlights.

Wow. With those odds, I'd put money on Oakland or Jacksonville before I would the Eagles. I don't think those teams are better, but I don't think they're THAT much worse of a SB threat. Especially considering the Eagles have a new coach with not NFL experience and will be transitioning systems on both sides of the ball. If I'm going to throw money away, at least give me the better value.

I stand corrected.  I mentioned during the game that it appeared that Niner fans outnumbered Ravens,  Far from it.  Coworker of mine who lives in the Bay Area said his neighbor went and said easily 60/40 Ravens maybe even more.  They owned the city all week and the dome.  Was very disappointed in Niner fan turnout.   Tried to argue the distance thing but he said it's a fairly inexpensive flight from San Jose or Oakland to New Orleans and might even be cheaper than a direct flight from Baltimore or DC.

same as always.....watching another team win one....

this was a little worse cause the team was 10 minutes from my house

and baltimore is like a mini philly in a lot of ways so i could relate that much more closely to their joy....all in all it just super depressing...only thing keeping it from being suicidal is that the eagles completely sucked this year and had no chance

If you look at it from a different perspective, following the Eagles gives you as high a spike in emotions in the negative side of things as winning a superbowl. So, we are truly blessed to be following a team that can give us this experience. One would argue that following the Cardinals, Lions, Browns is the same thing, but they don't have the potential that the Eagles do. Following other mediocre teams like the Jaguars, Browns, Lions, etc. They offer no realistic hope, but the Eagles always have the potential, which makes our valleys that much lower and our depressions that much deeper.

It's quite a thing to be an Eagles fan. You almost have to hate yourself a little bit to allow the negativity flow through you. We're like that lost peoples they find in caves with scars on their faces seeing the light for the first time; feisty, hungry, thick skinned. They survive on scraps of hope, but can only live with the familiarity of desolation, hopelessness, and let downs. We don't know nothing else. When generations come and go without achieving triumph, it just reinforces what we already know. The good stuff in life ain't for us. When the outsiders try to understand, they can't relate. They haven't lived in the caves. They haven't been in the fights amongst the tribe. They haven't made the sacrifices for the Eagle God. But every new season, the rituals start again. The shamans give hope to the tribe of a fruitful harvest. We put on our traditional  markings, head gear, and dress that distinguishes our tribe from the others; we sing our chants, say our prayers, and gather in multitudes to see if this is the year the Eagle god decends upon us and delivers us from this torment. But every year its the same, the newest members display unrealistic hope and they get beat down by the the elders who see the same patterns year after year. Quickly the young members learn that to being too outspoken and optimistic paints them as members who do not yet see and understand the truth. It is the cynicism of the older more experienced members that set the tone and eventually as the harvest dies out, that cynicism is re-inforced and it is back to the darkness of the caves as we hear the tones and chants of the other tribe's successes. As the tribe hibernates through the winter, the dream spirit visits us and energizes our souls with chants of E-A-G-L-E-S....EAGLES!. The dream she brings is fuzzy, it has a silver, shiny relic being hoisted up by the tribe...although we do not yet see clearly what this is, we survive through the winter on this hope that the dream is not a dream and more of a vision that will one day come.

ya, i agree its such a tough, tough task to overcome the year after but putting my homering aside, were certainly not the bills...

as soon as alex smith got benched after recovering, i knew in my heart we were farged because the football gods would cast the hammer of karma on us to be paid...i said it from the moment it happened to all my friends.....and they laughed :'(

in the end, i wished they laughed at me for being wrong.. :(

we'll be back in the playoffs next year but no way were superbowl winning....gonna take another year of losing in the tourney to AT LEAST pay the price...then its fair game...hopefully.

good luck with chip...think hes a good, solid breath of fresh air for you guys
