Have a feeling the Chiefs will lead the pack in ex players.

I get that guys will take whatever they can when they're barely good enough to make it in the NFL, but how many of the guys that cost Andy his job will he really want?

Surprisingly enough, Vince Young (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/vince-young-needed-loan-for-birthday-party-ex-adviser-says-021213) is not financially savvy.

QuoteThe former financial adviser for ex-NFL quarterback Vince Young said under oath that he arranged a high-interest, seven-figure loan for Young during the 2011 lockout because the player wanted to throw himself a $300,000 birthday party even though he was running low on funds.

Title: Re: 2013 Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: SD on March 31, 2013, 09:51:11 AM
I think Kolb can be a decent qb in the right offense with a good o line. Like if you had a team with everything and was just missing a qb he could come in and be a Brad Johnson type. Most teams build from the qb out so that scenario will never play out. My bet is he's out of the league in under 3 seasons because of concussion issues.

I think it means they plan on going QB with their #1 pick and want a cheap veteran for a back up or to start a few games in case the rook isn't ready.  Either that or they're doing everything they can to get the #1 pick in 2014.

They are paying him low-end starter-type money. He's probably the favorite to start. I would guess that they will draft a QB also, and develop him on the bench while Kolb and/or Tavaris Jackson is out there getting all the CTE.

From what I've seen, Fitzpatrick is a bit better than Kolb. Guess they were just sick of seeing his face. [Kolb comes cheaper than what they were paying Fitz, too.]
Title: Re: 2013 Ex-Eagles In The NFL
Post by: Rome on March 31, 2013, 10:37:45 AM
Fitzpatrick sucks.  I watched far more than I ever wanted to of the Bills the last couple of years (having a lot of Buffalo friends as I do) and trust me, he had to go.  They paid him a fortune and he just quit on them.  Not that I blame him, though, because their offensive line was worse than the Eagles' and they routinely allowed Fitz to get the shtein beat out of him.  It's a shame because he does have talent, but then again, so does Kolb.  That's why I find it difficult to believe that Kolb is going to subject himself to that mess.  Why not find a good team (Green Bay, San Fran maybe?) with a great starter to back up?

That's my guess as well. And if they draft a QB and he takes over the starting role this year, it's not like they've got a shtein ton of money rotting on the bench.

QuoteFrom what I've seen, Fitzpatrick is a bit better than Kolb. Guess they were just sick of seeing his face. [Kolb comes cheaper than what they were paying Fitz, too.]

It's irrelevant who is better. They were obviously sick of him and just wanted someone new...like most of us did with Reid. Almost doesn't matter if Kelly wins a single game or not. He's not Reid and most fans are happy about that.  I think the same concept applies to the Bills FO and Fitzpatrick.

In case you were wondering how the league's feeblest quarterback competition was going, consider this.

Jaguars General Manager David Caldwell was asked to assess the chances of Mike Kafka, who was claimed off waivers this week from the Patriots, and hasn't taken a snap of work in team drills with his new club yet.

He replied that Kafka had "just as good an opportunity" to win the starting job as Blaine Gabbert, Chad Henne or undrafted rookie Matt Scott, via Paul Kuharsky of ESPN.com.

QuoteHugh Douglas is in trouble again.

The former NFL linebacker was arrested in Hartford, Conn. after he allegedly violently attacked a woman at a hotel.

According to Joseph Wenzel IV of WFSB-TV in Hartford, Douglas got into a fight with the woman at a Marriott hotel at Adriaen's Landing. Court records indicate Douglas "grabbed her by the neck" and "slammed her into the walls several times." Douglas claimed the injuries came during a sexual encounter.

He was charged with third-degree assault and second-degree strangulation. The arrest comes just over a month removed from an incident with former ESPN colleague Michael Smith at a National Association of Black Journalists convention in Orlando, Fla. Douglas and Smith were engaged in a very heated verbal altercation that ultimately led to Douglas being let go by ESPN.

Hugh needs to go for "counseling" so it will all be in the past.

To bad, he was one of my favorite players. Must have been from all those hits to the head he took as a LB.

QuoteShawn Andrews was "disgusted" by treatment he received from Donovan McNabb
Posted by Mike Florio on November 8, 2013, 4:50 PM EST

As the Jonathan Martin situation sparks a broader debate regarding the treatment of NFL players by other NFL players, former Eagles offensive lineman Shawn Andrews has opened up about his experiences in Philadelphia.

In a lengthy and at times rambling interview with Mike Missanelli of 97.5 The Fanatic in Philly, Andrews said that he was "disgusted" by the way quarterback Donovan McNabb treated Andrews.

"People think that it's just a band of brothers," Andrews said.  "These are my co-workers, and I understood that really early on.  That you can't trust everybody."

Andrews said he didn't think he was bullied by McNabb.  Instead, Andrews believes that McNabb repeatedly talked about Andrews behind his back.

"If you put your heart, everything that comes with you, on the line for another person and they're saying some very, very, very untrue things about you to other guys in our same league on other teams, how would that make you feel?" Andrews said.  "You're putting your heart on the line, man.  You could break your neck, there's so many things that you could do."

Andrews said he eventually confronted McNabb, and that McNabb denied it.

"I'm disgusted by it," Andrews said.  "You know, like [Jonathan] Martin?  I feel the connection there because when he said he tried to befriend the people who talked about him, I know what he's going through."

Beyond McNabb, it's clear that Andrews wasn't happy with how he was treated while on the team.

"When the camera is rolling oh it's, 'We're a team, we're a team' but when the cameras go off it's like, 'Screw you, dude. Screw you,'" Andrews said.  "I've had to work with guys that didn't have everybody's best interests at heart. The only guy I'll tell you that I could trust on that team was flat out Brian Dawkins."

Again, Andrews said he wasn't bullied by McNabb or anyone else.  But it's obvious that he didn't believe that an atmosphere of family existed among his teammates.  And it's also obvious that Andrews has some strong negative feelings about Donovan McNabb.

great finish to the KC/SD game replete with patented AR time out with a minute and a half left while they were in the RZ. The useless TO left just enough time for SD to come back and score a long TD with 24 sec left. Hali and Houston left with injuries in the 1st half, Rivers threw for about 400.

QuoteLast year on the 49ers, David Akers ranked 30th in the NFL in field goal accuracy. This year on the Lions, Akers ranks 29th in field goal accuracy. So with back-to-back seasons near the bottom of the league, is it time to accept that the soon-to-be 39-year-old Akers just doesn't have it anymore?

Not according to Lions coach Jim Schwartz, who continues to back Akers despite a missed 31-yard field goal on Thursday against the Packers. In fact, Schwartz said he approached Akers right after that miss at the end of the second quarter and told him that the team was ready to go to him if it needed a clutch field goal late in the game.

"I told him after halftime that if we need a game-winner, we're going to put him right back up," Schwartz said, via the Detroit Free Press. "We're not going to be going for it on fourth down."

As it turned out, the Lions didn't attempt any field goals in the second half, but Schwartz said he was pleased to see Akers make all three extra points.

"You watch his next extra point, he stepped up, he drilled it. He bounced back," Schwartz said.

Now there's a ringing endorsement if I ever heard one. 'Yeah he missed a chip shot - but did you see the way he nailed that extra point?!" Great kicker in his day, but David's cooked.

QuoteChip Kelly: Releasing Jackson "purely football" move after no trade offers
Posted by Josh Alper on April 28, 2014, 2:30 PM EDT
Jacksonville Jaguars v Philadelphia Eagles Getty Images

The NFL said last week that it was satisfied that the Eagles released wide receiver DeSean Jackson for football reasons and coach Chip Kelly said the same thing on Monday.

Kelly said he had no personality conflicts with Jackson during their year together with the Eagles and that the team decided to solicit trade offers for the receiver because of their overall plans for the team. When there were no offers, the team decided to release Jackson in a move that had nothing to do with a report of Jackson's alleged gang ties.

"We just wanted to go in a different direction. It had nothing to do with any article. Purely football," Kelly said, via Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post. "We had no offers for DeSean. It doesn't matter what we wanted, because we had no offers."

Kelly wasn't surprised by the lack of offers for Jackson under his former contract, nor should it be a surprise to anyone else. Jackson's deal was set to pay him $10.7 million for the 2014 season, which is awfully rich even for a receiver of Jackson's talents.

Owner Jeffrey Lurie also spoke to reporters and said that he is concerned about all players' off-field behavior, but had no special concerns about Jackson. Lurie said Kelly came to him after the season ended and said he wanted to move in a different direction at receiver, which was enough for the owner to sign off on the move.

Both men said they had no concerns about Jackson going to a division rival. Jackson will have two chances to make them feel differently next season.

Yeah, I can see that DeSean wouldn't fit into an offense that set multiple franchise records, largely on big plays and he was second in he league in both 20+ and 40+ yard plays. Long scoring plays kinda drags the whole team down. You can also see how he was a bad influence on Riley was also among the 40+ yard play leaders

Btw I understood Chip's point about not having a PC each time a guy is cut. He says that's not how he rolls then fine. But when a move of that magnitude is made you have to say something. I'm not talking in depth exit interview type shtein but something needed to be said.

He also vehemently denied that hit piece by Santolowhoever on CBS.
