get mingo or get jones?
You know its a bad QB draft when Mike Glennon is showing up in the top 10 of mocks.
BTW many still have my boy Geno in the top 5 too.
I think some team is going to reach but if he drops I would still want the Eagles to take a shot on him.

if hes black, can run (goes without saying), and nice accuracy he will have a place in todays nfl. the way these offenses are leaning i bet geno is successful and i would take a shot on him as well
At #4? Y'all are farging looney tunes.
yeah four overall is not for "taking a shot" at someone imo....geno is a total boom bust guy (more bust imo)...i understand because hes a qb the boom part is much more intriguing....but i do not want him there
i tell ya what--while I hear everyone here saying how much they like nick foles, give him an o-line and see how he does im on the other side of that fence. you either have zip on the ball, can fit it in tight windows or you cant. you can either be accurate at 20+ yds or you cant.
foles lacks the consistency in all 3 of those departments and thats a big red flag for me--1st year or not. i dont even like how the ball looks on the 8 and out's. i think hes an int waiting to happen and that bothers me.
nick foles sucks.....who touts him?...he should be in the mix next year but i dont think theres anyone outside of a complete homer like romey who has said hes their future
I am not taking Geno at 4. If he was playing now like he was earlier then yeah.
I am talking about him dropping to 2nd...I take him in the 2nd.
agree phreak--you can almost bet they go early qb regardless anyway--esp with a new coach.
"everyone" liking him was a bad choice of words by me w foles...but theres been plenty of heads that want him in the mix and feel good about him as long as the o-line gets in order
all im saying is i dont feel comfortable as him as the starter--o-line upgrade or not
I'm fine with Foles starting next year. I don't think he's the long-term answer whatsoever. This team has so many holes and picks so high I'd rather draft for the other needs, because for every hit on a Kaepernick and Russell Wilson 2nd and 3rd round QBs, you get 100 Kevin Kolb, Jimmy Clausen, Colt McCoy, and Nick Foles types.
That said, completely agree that they'll probably wind up going with a QB early with a new coach. So, farg it.
Jimmy Clausen...I wonder if he will ever get another shot. That dude thought he was the shtein and he is awful...

I'm not "comfortable" with him but I did like a lot of what I saw from him and wouldn't be pissed if he were the #1 heading into camp. Maybe it's just because he's the polar opposite of Vick that has me intrigued. He's tall, has good pocket awareness, seems to have a good football IQ, poised, rarely gets balls batted down, etc. He has all the tools, it's just a matter of whether or not he can put it together on the field.

You get to draft a [defensive] player that will be an immediate upgrade instead of spending that pick on another QB who sucks.

if he has all the tools he certainly hasnt shown it yet...questionable arm...accuracy issues....statuesque
ill give him the benefit of the doubt until they get someone better but i see nothing from him that stands out
Xavier Rhodes and Alec Ogletree declared. Not sure if either one will make it to #35 though
Bruce Matthews' kid Jake (the top RT in this draft) is staying at A&M for his senior season
Kiper thinks FF's boy Mike Glennon is going top 15 and will be the first QB taken, then Barkley, then Geno
Yeah I don't get the Glennon love. I saw him in the top 5 in a mock
Someone splash water on my Jarvis Jones wishes because the more I watch of his highlights the more I'm praying he's there at 4....but I am afraid he's gone before then.
They need some nasty motherfckers and he's one
hes not gonna be there at four because theres no qb's this year to push people like him back
in other words there couldnt possibly be a worse draft for the eagles to have a top pick
Maybe next year's draft will be better with the #3 pick...

Yes, Yes, No
god hes a little troll
Mingo, Montgomery and Bennie Logan all declared, so LSU has lost 8 players to the draft, not counting Honey Badger
Aaron Murray announced he's staying for his senior year
interesting...who, other than Manziel, are coming out next year?
This seems to be prime time for him to come out and get drafted high due to the zesty QB class
Next year's class will have Bridgewater, Murray, Logan Thomas, Tajh Boyd (if he doesn't declare this year), AJ McCarron, Zach Mettenberger, Derek Carr, and maybe Jeff Driskel and Sean Mannion if they have great years
jelani jenkins and zach ertz IN
the joker has rsvp'ed
Michigan OT Lewan is staying in skool
Boyd is out
large ass Kwame Geathers (Jumpy's nephew and Robert's brother) is in
DJ Fluker, DeAndre Hopkins and Joseph Randle are in
no surprise but lacey and milliner are IN
deandre hopkins
I got dibs on him being my special Eagle if they draft him. No one else can have him. Okay everybody?
Glennon is the only QB in Kiper's top 25 list (#21). I still think Geno goes on day one, but it'd be the first time since 1996 where no QBs were picked in the 1st round. (Hoying at #85 was the 2nd QB taken that year, behind Tony Banks. Yikes)
wow i would have guessed tony banks was much more recent than hoying.
Lotulelei was advised to drop out of the Senior Bowl to avoid hurting his value
today is the deadline for declaring...a record 74 players have done so thus far
glennon blows. much rather chance geno than glennon, at least you have a ceiling with geno.
Ace Sanders changed his mind and sneaked in before the deadline. 75 total, plus a few seniors that bypassed extra eligibility
43% of all the underclassman coming out this year are from the sec....wow
oregon only top ten team not to lose an underclassman
lsu lost the most with 11
Kiper's first mock:
1 KC - Joeckel
2 JAX - Moore
3 OAK - Lotulelei
4 PHI - Milliner
5 DET - Jones
6 CLE - Werner
7 AZ - Warmack
8 BUF - Te'o
9 NYJ - Mingo
10 TEN - Dion Jordan
11 SD - Eric Fisher
12 MIA - Patterson
13 TB - Ogletree
14 CAR - Richardson
15 NO - Hankins
16 STL - Vaccaro
17 PIT - Ezekiel Ansah
18 DAL - Jonathan Cooper
19 NYG - Montgomery
20 CHI - Eifert
21 CIN - Montee Ball
22 STL (from WSH) - Fluker
23 MIN - Terrance Williams
24 IND - Menelik Watson
25 SEA - John Jenkins
26 GB - Zack Ertz
27 HOU - Keenan Allen
28 DEN - Xavier Rhodes
29 BAL - Kevin Minter
30 SF - Sharrif Floyd
31 NE - DeAndre Hopkins
32 ATL - Margus Hunt
i'm less enthusiastic than some eagles fans seem to be regarding milliner...he's someone who seems to do everything pretty well but doesn't really standout in any way. i would think his floor would be pretty high, but i don't see a shutdown NFL corner either. he also is more physical at bama than he'll be allowed to be in the NFL so he'll need to adjust that a little bit.
yeah pretty much.....hes a vanilla safe pick that should go off the board at like 18....but will go much higher because of position
i agree with you that Warmack is the stud coming out of Bama this year. Dude is going to be a terror on the OL for years and would be the #1 pick if they valued OG like they do OT.
i know most people will think im nuts but id take him at four and not think twice

I wouldn't lump Jordan in with them. His recovery time is 3-4 months, he'd be ready for the start of any training camp and probably could do OTAs if they're in June or July or whatever. He might drop, but not a significant amount like JJ or Star if they turn out to be serious medical issues.

The Kansas City Chiefs are down to four potential possibilities for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
That according to NFL.com's Albert Breer, who spoke with general manager John Dorsey at Chiefs headquarters on Monday.
Dorsey said the Chiefs plan to make a final decision four days before the draft. He's been meeting with head coach Andy Reid three times a day about the pick. Reid will get even more involved in the 7-10 days before the first pick is announced on April 25 at Radio City Music Hall, according to Breer.
Dorsey wouldn't disclose who the four players are. It's safe to assume Texas A&M tackle Luke Joeckel is one. Is West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith another?
Smith was set to arrive in Kansas City on Monday night ahead of a meeting with Chiefs brass on Tuesday morning, according to Breer. That doesn't necessarily mean Smith is in that final four, however.
One other possibility has the Chiefs trading out of the top pick, which Dorsey didn't rule out. The clock is ticking.
I wonder what 3 x a day Andy and Dorsey meet.

They don't have better things to do with their time than circle jerk at 7 a.m., 2 p.m., and 7 p.m. again? What could possibly change between the morning meeting and the afternoon meeting? A new article on one of the prospective pics came out, and now they both have to discuss it together?
These people are either fools, or by serving up this ludicrous story they think we are.

well unless you consider Fluker a top OL....kind of a reach, no?
im not a believer in the term "reach"....and even less so in this draft where you had like 65 players who could go in the first round
there's also a huge cluster of guys projected for the mid first round... more than there are spots in the mid first round due to the ridiculous proliferation of mock drafts... it's not that anyone is falling, it's that all these guys are similar quality, teams will take what they need, and someone will "fall" by necessity
there has not really been any surprise tonight and there probably wont be. maybe if jarvis jones somehow falls out of the first. and then phreak can go to sleep happy.
id classify shariff as a big suprise...but yeah what you are saying is all true

Sadly I doubt he gets past the Steelers
lol at the Jets
I'm expecting Floyd or Star to fall somewhere early 20's, Eagles trade up, but for EJ Manuel. Being a fan of this team has conditioned me to believe the worst is going to happen, regardless of whether the organization revamped the entire staff..
Not surprised by Star going before Floyd but wtf were the Jets doing there, that was a legitimate surprise.

either there is no interest in trading up right now or the bills are really dumb...because they could have gotten him in the 20's

Ideal fit for Floyd.
I follow Jim Irsay on twitter and he always has contests where he cakes people off. He offered $1k if anyone guessed the Colts pick...I guessed Xavier Rhodes...one pick off

Manti? lol. Maybe the best hope is NE goes Elam, BAL goes Arthur Brown and no one trades up looking to pick off Cyprien. Really worried about NE, their non-safety needs are kinda depleted compared to the skillset still available on the board at safety.

arthur brown isnt a fit for them i dont think....to me hes a classic 4-3 wil...everyone says manti wont get past them but i dont see how he plays in a 3-4 because he cant take on blocks
new england already tried to get emmanuel sanders so maybe they go wr and cordarelle patterson tho he doesnt seem like a bellicheck pick

Quote from: ice grillin you on April 26, 2013, 10:07:20 PM
have you seen the picks?
compare them to what sf did under him
you think gamble is taking a third TE with the defensive talent that was on the board?
a non descript defensive tackle?...with mad talented edge players available?
and the one decent pick lane johnson was clearly chippers guy
I lean towards agreeing but who knows.
BTW...Phillip Thomas is the next guy they should be after
phillip thomas i would have taken with their third...so yeah at four he would be great
they also could really use some OL....their depth there is horrific and they are a jason peters achillies reinjure away frm having to dip into that depth
brian schwenke or khaled holmes would be nice picks as well
also cornelius washington still around
I would like Barrett Jones
and another one of my man crushes
Stepfan Taylor
Quinton Patton still on the board!
i can see kc taking taylor with one of their two upcoming picks
look at that ozzie draft....so jealous
nassib right now, can you imagine? goes from everyone saying he'll be picked 8th ($$$) to now going to be in play day3.
Rick Smith killing it in Houston too
Rams by far have had the best draft.

took knile davis over taylor
Wow...Knile Davis to KC
I like that one
QuoteManti Te'o told the media that when he saw a CA area code he thought some of his friends were trying to prank him
hes not a 3-4 guy so he was not an option for the eagles but zaiver gooden is a real good pick...i dont think hes that far behind arthur brown as a linebacker
Best drafts so far;
Baltimore
Buffalo
Green Bay
Houston
Kansas City
Minnesota
Pittsburgh
San Fran
St Louis
Tennessee
So one third of the league has had the best draft so far.
lol @ Buffalo being on a best draft list right now unless you really love WRs

I should have said good drafts so far
And I like EJ Manuel and the WRs
QuoteZaviar Gooden made it 32 SEC players drafted in first three rounds (97 total picks). That's an entire round of players from one conference
i like the receivers but alonso was an awful pick and manuel went way too early
C for the bills
best drafts imo thus far

new orleans A
oakland A

Jay loves drafts like Gruden loves football players.
I LOVE IT! :crazy
there goes my boy schwenke
Ryan Nassib to the Giants
One of my favorite players in the draft, Alabama OL Barrett Jones, goes to STL....great draft for them
Goddammit...Phillip Thomas goes to Washington.
Two guys I played ball with in high school may be getting picked today. Both real nice guys so I hope so.
Paul Worrilow is a LB so maybe Howie can take a chance on in him in the 7th
Quinton Patton...goes to SF
goddammit
And Marcus Lattimore goes to SF too
Jesus that team is so good
Denard Robinson goes to Gus
Williams took forever to get off the board. Nice pick by the Seahawks
Stepfan Taylor goes to the Cards...damn
Quote from: PhillyPhreak54 on April 27, 2013, 02:02:30 PM
Denard Robinson goes to Gus
and probably becomes the best QB on their roster even though he won't be playing the position.

Don't know anything about the big RB, what's his deal?
Also, when I looked at the ESPN draft tracker thing for Andy, every player had a blurb except for the undersized LB. "Uh-huh. I've seen this pick before," I thought.
No second round pick, but it surely would have been a QB. Reid's gonna be Reid.
Oops,it was the NFL draft tracker thing. Not ESPN. Whatever. They can both lick Phreak's trucknuts.

Talented but fumbled 6% of his carries and gets hurt a lot.

Now is about the part of the draft where Reid typically drafts Mr. No-Blurb's cousin, Mr. No-Picture.

Way to come outta school early, kid.
And he's signing with Andy Reid
Kwame Geathers to San Diego. Thought maybe the Eagles would have interest in him
Collin Klein to Houston
Matt Scott and Jordan Rodgers (Aaron's bro) to Jacksonville
Dave Kruger (yea there's another one) joins Paul in Cleveland
Ray-Ray Armstrong to St. Louis
Mike Golic Jr to Pittsburgh
Michael Zordich Jr to Carolina

Cris Carter's kid Duron signed with the Vikings
so he can retire
Apparently he didn't sign - only invited to try out.
Baltimore asked him to do the same
1. North Carolina ILB Kevin Reddick (Grade: 74) - SAINTS
We are surprised to see Reddick on the board. While he lacks ideal athleticism in space, which likely hurt him, he is an instinctive player who excels as a run defender and flashes as a blitzer.
2. Arizona QB Matt Scott (71) - JAGS
Scott gained momentum late in the process and has a lot of upside. He is an above-average athlete with a quick release, and shows ability to change release points and deliver accurate throws on the run. Scott doesn't have prototypical size, but he is a competitor who could be a steal as a free agent and develop into a strong backup.
3. Stanford OLB Chase Thomas (68) - SAINTS
Thomas lacks ideal athleticism and did not test well at the NFL combine, which likely caused him to go undrafted. However, he is a better football player than athlete and shows elite instincts that allow him to constantly find the ball. Thomas also brings upside as a pass-rusher.
4. Tennessee Tech WR Da'Rick Rogers (68) - BILLS
Rogers' off-the-field issues were the main cause of his slide. There is no denying the talent he shows on tape. Rogers is a physical route-runner with strong hands and the ability to create after the catch, and also flashes the ability to elevate and win one-on-one downfield battles. He will need strong leadership in the locker room, but if he can stay on the straight-and-narrow Rogers has a chance to develop into a strong No. 2 receiver.
5. Florida OT Xavier Nixon (66) - taterskinS
Nixon has quick feet for his size and flashes at times on tape, but he never realized his potential at Florida and appears to take plays off on tape. The concerns about his work ethic and desire to get better likely scared teams away.
6. Tennessee QB Tyler Bray (65) - CHIEFS
This is certainly a tough pill for Bray to swallow. He has the most arm talent and arguably the top physical skill in the entire quarterback class, but maturity issues, lack of ideal leadership, and poor mechanics and decision making hurt his stock.
The ideal fit for Bray would be with a team that has an established starter, allowing him to take a few years to mature and learn. If he can do that, and commit himself to improving, he has a chance to develop into a starter down the road.
7. Stony Brook RB Miguel Maysonet (62) - EAGLES
Maysonet was one of our favorite Day 3 sleepers. He has a low center of gravity and runs with above-average balance and lateral agility. In addition, he brings some versatility as a pass catcher out of the backfield. It won't be surprising if Maysonet is the next late-round/free-agent running back to become a big-time contributor in the league.
8. Sam Houston State DC Daxton Swanson (60) - COLTS
Swanson lacks ideal size, has just average speed and was inconsistent in run support. However, there is no denying his solid footwork, quick-twitch movement skills and playmaking instincts on tape. Swanson has a chance to develop into a steady sub-package nickelback.
9. Georgia DT Kwame Geathers (59) - CHARGERS
Geathers is a mountain of a man who can clog up the middle when he stays low, but he tends to play high, and is caught out of position too often. Plus, he doesn't have much upside as a pass rusher and projects as a two-down player at the NFL level.
10. South Carolina State S Jakar Hamilton (58) - COWBOYS
Hamilton is a former Georgia transfer who has big-time potential in terms of athleticism, speed and explosiveness. However, character concerns and maturity issues prevented him from being drafted. If Hamilton can focus, he has the range and versatility to hold up both in man coverage and as a center fielder in zone, and develop into a starter.

Words can't describe how happy I was the Eagles didn't get cute and draft him.

You just described Donovan's 10 year tenure in Philly.
lets be real wilma fires the agent, donovan goes along with it
Jason Cole has an article about how execs hated Geno leading up to the draft (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--geno-smith-s-firing-of-agents--pre-draft-actions-shed-light-on-why-qb-dropped-183846651.html)
Quote"I'm not sure he knows how to take instruction because he pretty much wouldn't listen or talk to our coaches ... he's talented. He can sling it, he can fit it into tight spots, he can do a lot of things and I think he wants to be good. But you can't tell him anything right now. He's tuned out because he thinks he's got it all down."
Quote"He doesn't have much presence, not much of a leader," said another league executive, who spent a great deal of time studying Smith before the draft. "I don't think he's a bad person, but that's not enough to be a quarterback in this league."
Two sources indicated that when Smith went on some visits to teams, rather than interact with coaches and front-office people, he would spend much of his time on his cell phone. Instead of being engaged with team officials, he would be texting friends or reading Twitter or a number of other distracting activities.
"All these other players who were in there were talking to the coaches, trying to get to know people and he was over there by himself," one of the sources said. "That's not what you want out of your quarterback."
Both sources indicated that Florida State's E.J. Manuel, who was selected ahead of Smith at No. 16 overall by Buffalo, was far more impressive in terms of his personality and maturity.
QuoteSmith was being convinced by other friends that it was the fault of his agents that he slipped so much in the draft, according to one of the sources.
"Right now, he's blaming everybody but himself and he has some buddies around him who are telling him that same thing," the source said.
Enjoy Jets
If the kid can break down defenses, make intelligent decisions, move well in and out of the pocket, and pass strongly and accurately, he'll do really well in the NFL whether or not he's an antisocial whiny dude who reads Twitter. That armchair psychology shtein is the most overrated aspect of sports. Pretty much every personality type has been a champion at some point. If you want to know if someone can be coached, watch tape of the progression of their talent, don't base it on whether he has one day of awkward social interactions with your coaches. Not every talented athlete meets a certain stereotype.
That being said, from what I've seen, I don't think he is close to having the skills to break down an NFL-level defense, and so I expect him to fail for that reason. Also he might not care about football or about getting better... and that is a personality trait that actually can matter.
in general i agree but the qb position is a different animal...being salty and firing your agent cause you felt you "deserved" to be chosen higher screams of some ryan leaf shtein to me
Nice post, QB. I agree. It's all about production. If he does well, that stuff takes a backseat and he's just looked at as quirky or aloof or whatever.
If he stinks it will be magnified and overanalyzed...especially in NY.
I agree that the agent firing is dumb and childish but we are talking about spoiled young bucks who have their egos stroked from day one.
If he starts berating reporters and being a fleshpop....then he's Leaf
berating reporters is far more insignificant than firing your agent because you didnt get drafted high enough
and of course its all about production...thats like saying if he wins four superbowls no one will care about any of this....well duh...but thats not the point
the point is production at the qb position can be negatively impacted by a persnality disorder far more than any other position in sports...does this mean hes doomed for life...no...but so far signs are not pointing in a positive direction for him
Wonder if Rob Parker thinks he's a cornball?
Production and success trumps almost everything else including being coachable. But how do players making the jump from college to the pros become successful? A lot has to do with learning from coaches and veteran players, so they aren't mutually exclusive. Maybe when a guy like Brett Favre gets to his 17th season he can tune out Brad Childress, or they basically hand the reins over to Payton Manning after he becomes Payton Manning, but it's pretty hard to get to that place being an uncoachable loner wrapped up in his own world (if those labels are true).

They went back and looked at the the 2007 draft, too. (http://www.footballoutsiders.com/nfl-draft/2013/2007-draft-six-years-later) To me, these lookbacks are a lot more interesting than the meaningless grades of the 2013 class.
Best QB drafted in 2007? They're voting Kevin Kolb, and it's not easy to disagree given the competition. Weird.
That was a pretty terrible year for qbs.
