Just announced on WIP.
Tommy Brasher, the old DL coach, hired.
Roob says Washburn had become disruptive and blew up threatening to quit after Babin was cut.
At first firing him now made no sense, if you're going to stick with Reid till seasons end you might as well stick with Washburn too. After hearing about Babin good farging riddance.
Quote"Jim is a fine football coach and we appreciate the efforts he gave to this team over the past two years," said head coach Andy Reid. "However, I determined that it was in the team's best interest that we move in a different direction in terms of trying to maximize the production of that position group. We look forward to having Tommy Brasher back on board to work with the defensive line."
TLTL
Other writers echoing the sentiments that Washburn had become a problem with one beat guy getting a text from a coach saying he'd become a cancer among the team.
meh..
How could you be upset at Babin getting waived? I don't care if he is BFF. Washburn been around long enough to know the business and Babin was horrendous.
Because Washburn is a crankly old stubborn fart who's only concern in life is QB sacks. Babin was the worst 10+ sack player in league history but to Washburn he was like a son because he mentored an average skilled player to be successful so he takes it personal when his boy is cut. Good riddance to them both. Maybe he'll go to Jacksonville so they can still go fishing together like father like son.
what a collosal shtein show this franchise is right now
does anyone else feel like all these firings are going to be used as excuses for andy and hes actually gonna be the one guy that doesnt go
I had that exact same thought.

No way. He is dooooone. This team is in chaos right now.
My brother and i had the same conversation last night. It's a guarantee that he's back. They're going to sell it as a cancerous lockerroom see 2005. Andy will get a mulligan, Howie will get another raise, we'll all be one step closer to death.
Andy just said "I didnt make this move to save my job...believe me, this is not what this is about"...Take it FWIW, but I'm having the same feeling now about Andy being here longterm.
SD said it right--Wash was just a problem around the guys. He had to go.
This is all for naught on Reid's part as the head coach next year. Matter of fact hes doing exactly what he should be doing as a head coach-esp someone as close to Lurie to not make a mockery of the organization.
Lurie couldn't have been more clear in his presser. You go 8-8 see ya. If he retracts on that his house gets soaped and fans will rebel in the worst way--sticking it right to his pockets. I know that's been said before of fans not going to games, but I really do feel it would happen next year. Fans can't take Andy Reid anymore and they cant win. This is way past the notion that Lurie needs to keep Reid to keep his pockets full. A hiring of big name coach or any coach for that matter will keep the pockets and stands full regardless.

To me that's the key phrase of why Andy is 100% out of here. You don't make a declaration of that degree then go back on your words when things are actually worse off. The team has been in a steady decline. Last season there was no TC, a bunch of new players/coaches etc. They played well at the end of the season...fine he was given a chance to right the ship. Then this disaster happens, and it's easy to chalk it up to injuries but every Eagles fan on the planet knows even if they're 100% healthy their record is very similar. In a strange way we lucked out with the injuries, the team wasn't winning the SB this season, we got to see the young guys play, get a top draft pick, and a new coaching staff. That's almost as good as getting the wildcard.
he never said Andy was gone if he went 8-8. he said 8-8 was not acceptable.
so what's 3-13....long term extension?
It's the new 9-7.
Roob (http://www.csnphilly.com/football-philadelphia-eagles/eagles-talk/Washburn-a-disruptive-presence-from-Day-?blockID=809145&feedID=704)
QuoteWashburn, a lifetime defensive coach who's never been shy about speaking his mind and trampling anyone in his way, often made his disdain for Castillo clear.
Washburn operated apart from Castillo, running his own little defensive line fiefdom and often either ignoring Castillo or derisively calling him "Juanita" in front of his players, the veteran defensive player said. He was condescending and confrontational and embarrassed Castillo frequently in meetings and at practice and also went over the line criticizing his players at times.
The current Eagles assistant coach said both Washburn and Mudd looked down on the other position coaches, held themselves in higher regard than the others and rarely interacted with their colleagues.
Good riddance. More proof that old people suck
So you guys think that all the bad hiring decisions Reid made will save his job? That's what I think you're saying.
I don't see how anyone that loses 12 straight gets to save his job
You can't have insubordinate iceholes running their sewers working for you.
This is all on Lurie, though. He allowed himself to get talked into this wire hangar abortion and now it's on him to clean up afterwards.
First step should be to fire Howie then institute an immediate GM search. He has to find an Ozzie Newsome type and forgo the Ivy League wonder boys at all costs.
He won't because he's just as inept as the rest of them.

Next year's GM: Ike Reese
jesus christ this team is such an abomination
i cant believe lurie is sitting twiddling his thumbs and letting this thing go on
It's amazing what a punch in the face from Juan might have done.
Try for a second to imagine anyone challenging Andy's authority like that circa 2001.
He's checked out mentally and physically and has been since at least 2008. Once JJ died that was it. Lurie should have broom swept that sumbitch, but he's a sniveling weenie, so of course that wasn't happening.
QuoteBabin: "Coach Reid got rid of our refrigerator and our coffee maker in our room. So I could tell there was some feelings between Coach and Wash that were on the surface. You could kind of feel the tension a little bit. I mean, get rid of a guy's refrigerator and coffee maker?"
Appliance fight!
Mcmanus says sources told him the Washburn firing happened on the spot in Dallas
Not that I'm defending Castillo, but if Washburn was punking Juan in front of the team then why wasn't he fired before Castillo? He absolutely should have been the first coach out the door.
Also, I've said before that I have doubts about Lurie not being able to actually fire Reid but I don't see how he keeps him now. What coordinator or position coach in their right mind would want to work for Reid after this shtein?

I don't buy it. I think this move was in the works after Washburn blew up over Babin getting cut. No way they were able to pull a guy out of a 7 year retirement to come into this situation in just a few hours. They had to work Brasher over for a few days before getting a commitment from him.
I mean, maybe the firing happened immediately following the game but it wasn't a spur of the moment decision.
you can't make this shtein up:
QuoteThe rift between Reid and his defensive line has been brewing for awhile, apparently.
According to Jaguars beat writer Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union, Jason Babin said that Andy Reid removed the fridge and coffee maker from defensive line room during the Eagles' bye week.

Good point about why washburn wasn't fired first. With Reid, his contract is up at the end of the season so there isn't an issue with keeping him, and I don't see any way he gets a new contract since even a 2 year extension would be guaranteed.
Also, Reid didn't care if they had a fridge, he took it because of the ice cream and frozen pizzas inside.
at this point im not sure andy wiping his own ass his a spur of the moment decision

Well you could of course. And considering "According to

head coach son dies
president of football ops leaves
def coord fired
president of communications fired
president of marketing fired
pro bowl starter cut on the spot
def line coach fired
starting qb benched
coaches abusing other coaches in front of players
head coaches stealing shtein out of rooms in the middle of the night on spite
3-9 and counting
wow
I want to see Juan come back as the o-line coach next year. The more I read, the more he seems like the only guy that isn't an icehole.

LOL.....the entire state has a newspaper?
One english one, yes.
Geez, this is as bad as I've ever seen this franchise, and I always thought it would never get as bad or worse than the Kotie era.
McClane saying that Roseman was the one basically lobbied for Washburn in the first place. But I'm sure you could have figured that out on your own by reading the url.

Lobbied for him, then when pressured about the hire, the weasel puts out a C.Y.A. statement:
Quote"Andy Reid has full and final control over all decisions over his coaching staff. To say that I had more to say, or more involvement or more input than Andy Reid in hiring Jim Washburn is categorically false."
Oh yeah, we're in for a fun half a decade.

Like I mentioned the other day - this is what happens when you give power to a know-nothing young buck accountant. Grigson, and guys like him, who played and scouted and built networks of contacts (like Reid did while working his way up) are who you listen to. Not Howie Roseman.
Its commendable for Andy to fall on the sword here. That is one of the many things I admire about him and why I am a fan.
Loyalty is great, but it ultimately gets you no where. I know Reid has his future to think about, but if I were him I'd probably be on the verge of throwing everyone in that organization under the bus. He's been there 14 years so he's gotta have dirt on pretty much everyone. His relationship with Lurie will never allow him to do that though.
