Combine thread?
With what?
Ha. Nice.
Morris Claiborne got a 4 on the Wonderlic. GET
I would take him in a heartbeat.
if i was a player i would fail the wonderlic on purpose to give me more of a chance of going to a team like baltimore or pittsburgh and eliminate teams like the eagles
I am pretty sure most kids would kill to play on the Eagles just because the love they have for Vick.

Other than QB, Center and maybe MLB, the wonderlic is pretty pointless, and it's only moderately important when it comes to those 3 positions. I don't care if a CB can spell his name or not. He doesn't need to be smart. He just needs to be able to run fast and stick his man.
They should scrap the wonderlic and do some kind of survivor game...and see if his instincts keep him alive. If they do, he's probably got good instincts on the field. If he doesn't survive, you weren't gonna sign him anyways.

igs would rather have an athletic team full of morons while the Eagles always go for average smart guys like Gocong (and I guess Nnamdi amirite), so he thinks pretending to be stupid (or just being stupid) eliminates you from Eagle consideration. Last I checked, bedwetter only had a 14, DRC got a 19, pimp isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, Vick isn't exactly a scholar, and who knows what Asante's thinking half the time.....

Burfict and Jayron Hosley tested positive for marijuana at the combine. Some people are saying Burfict could go undrafted, that's how far he's fallen in 12 months
perfect to the ravens in the 6th
I'm fully on the 'weed is awesome' bandwagon and think that judging kids based on whether they smoke squeef or not is farging retarded. BUT, how farging stupid do you have to be to smoke get high before the combine? You know that your future depends on testing clean. You know that teams look down on it. Just lay off for a while, get drafted, get paid and smoke later you farging idiot.
stupid and still not the stupidest thing he did before the combine (getting fat and out of shape)
schefter saying barron is the hottest player in the draft right and theres no way he makes it to dallas at 14 much less to the eagles at 15 which really sucks
Its always funny how there is a guy that is hot going into the draft then all of sudden he goes exactly where you thought he would go anyway. That being said I could easily see Barron going high because the safety class blows.
barron going top 10 would be overvaluing him IMO. dude is really solid but he isn't a 'game changer' like other safeties who go in the top 10 are supposed to be.
if hes really that good then move up and get him
talent. they need talent. get good players.
Yeah I think if he goes top 10 then its overvaluation for sure.
I saw a few people say that he's drawing comparisons to ES HOFer Sean Taylor.
BTW Mayock said he thinks Chandler Jones will be the best defensive player in the draft in three years.
i wouldnt take chandler in the second round...i see little explosion from him for an edge guy
i hadnt thought of that before but that sean taylor barron comparison is on point...and i dont think barron in the top 10 is overvaluing at all...in fact hes in the top ten on many peoples big boards...who in the top ten outside of the two qb's richardson and claiborne are significantly better?...if michael farging floyd or cookly are potential top ten picks then barron easily is
I actually like Barron more than I do Taylor coming out of college. Taylor was a one trick pony, a guy who played the run well and made big hits but was a liability in coverage. Barron isn't as big of a hitter and probably doesn't play the run as well but he's better against the pass.
That being said Barron isn't making it past the Bills.
I'd take Barron today over Taylor today.

Cleveland trades up to #3.

So...
Indy takes Luck
D.C. takes RGIII

Vikes take....trade down again?
Kalil

would be hilarious if cleveland took kalil.

They're dicks for taking the entire 10 minutes. If you know who you're selecting make the farging pick.

I think he'd work out really at SAM, haven't seen a LB since Emmons that could wrap up a TE and that's the trend now. Plus he'd be the heir apparent for MLB in 2-3 years.
The other thing is he's a true 3 down LB, which really helps a guy like Juanny not needing to have all those sub packages
Cox is slipping a little. Take the God damn 3rd round pick and make a move up to get him. We all know they're not picking a good player with their 3rd rounder so use it to move up.

he's regarded as a bit of a risk/reward player (we all know how that went with JPP) at a position of need, so I don't fault them for that. They do need a lot of Oline help but the draft is supposed to be deep there over he next couple of rounds.

Guys that were 1st-rd talent at some point that didn't get picked tonight (not counting Burfict):
TE Coby Fleener
WR Stephen Hill
OT Jonathan Martin
OL Cordy Glenn
DT Devon Still
DT Jerel Worthy
LB Courtney Upshaw
LB Zach Brown
CB Janoris Jenkins
CB Alfonzo Dennard
I'd add Alshon Jeffrey to the list as he was often regarded as the 2nd best WR after Blackmon in Jan/Feb. Lavonte David I think is also a cusp player and I'd like to see the Eagles go after.

unecessary pick at best bad pick at worst
Unnecessary how? They had the worst running game in the league, Bradshaw has bad feet and Jacobs is gone. Or did you mean they could get a RB later?
you can get running backs almost anywhere in the draft...even udfa.....every once in a while a running back comes along that is worthy of a first round pick...david wilson is not even close to one of those backs...drunk hit it right on....basically they wanted martin and panicked when he was scooped from them
The pick really doesn't make any sense, considering how the Giants usually draft. They pretty much never pick for need. So either IGY is spot on, or they had a very high grade on this kid.
The Giants do know how to cure fumbling problems. Its not like it is the worst pick ever but for the Jints its out of character.
Also after listening to Bill Polian and Nfl Radio I think the devaluing of RBs is greatly exaggerated.
devaluing is the wrong word...it connotes that they arent important anymore and that is def not the truth
but its a fact that they can be found all over the draft and in undrafted players...thus theres no reason to spend high picks on them or go out of your way to get one...let them come to you and pounce when the time is right...this is a legit philosphy but it shouldnt be called devaluing
Here's something:
QuoteAccording to STATS, David Wilson gained 990 yards last season after making contact with a defender, the best mark in the NCAA.
Janoris Jenkins is supposedly a player that teams are now scrambling to get. Wknder if the Eagles try to move up for him?
Jenkins would be nice along with an LB. Jenkins probably won't last long so they might have to move up for him. They still have 3 6 rounders and the Asante 7th. Why do I get the feeling the Eagles are going to take MSU QB Kirk Cousins?
Quote from: SD on April 27, 2012, 09:25:47 AM
Why do I get the feeling the Eagles are going to take MSU QB Kirk Cousins?
...maybe because a bunch of draftniks and beat guys have said it's a distinct possibility?
gotta watch out for the rams today...they have three picks before the eagles have one and i could easily see them taking david and jenkins
they could really knock it out of the park with a david - jenkins - randle/hill tri pack
hopefully they instead go OL and WR with two of them as they really need to help bradford
Yep I think that's the exact route they go.
Bradford became mince meat by the end of the year with how many times he was sacked and he has not a soul to throw to beside hall of famer ammendola
i think theres gonna be a run on OL in the early parts of the second round...a few WR's should go as well....this should push defensive players down towards the birds
other than seattle and maybe buffalo i dont really see a team with a huge LB need who pick before the eagles in the 2nd round...this bodes well for one of david or brown to be there...the wrench in the program is if one of those guys is a clear cut number one left on someones board and they go best available
QuoteI think I'll get to a lot more of this in Monday's MMQB column, but I'd like to throw some empathy Mohamed Sanu's way. The Rutgers wide receiver was on the edge of his seat late in the first round, with the Bengals on the clock at No. 27, when his phone rang. The voice on the other end of the phone identified himself as being from the Bengals, and said Cincinnati was about to pick him. Sanu and those in his draft party exploded in excitement, and agent Mike McCartney even tweeted that Sanu was a Bengal. Then Cincinnati picked Zeitler.
"This is a great kid, I guarantee you, and someone played a cruel joke on him,'' McCartney said. "It is unreal that someone would do that, but it happened.'' Sanu told McCartney after the draft not to worry about him, he'd be fine, and some team will draft him and get a good player. McCartney's right. Sanu must be a good kid, to respond to something that hurtful with an attitude so hopeful.
LOL
haha
Rams are reportedly hanging onto the 1st pick of the 2nd round to take an OL or WR. So the Colts will have a chance to draft Fleener to give Luck a familiar target. Good for them?
good for the eagles
I think I am more hyped for this round than last night. This second round is fairly loaded.
suprised russell wilson is putting himself out there like that...i thought he was a 4th/5th rounder because of his height
Claiborne admitted he blew off his Wonderlic after scoring a four. Que IGY implying this post is racist.

I wonder who the eagles will bring out to represent them?
ill take it
be interesting to see if heckert goes for jj a guy andy never would
common sense would tell you one of the OT go here....allen glenn massie
So with Roseman mentioning how they weren't focusing on character as much, does that mean the eagles will take Jenkins if he drops? The old heads like Parcells seem completely against taking him early to mid second.

and you thought Cox, Boykin, and McNutt were bad (http://www.sportspickle.com/opinion/6095/the-12-funniest-old-timey-names-in-nfl-draft-history)
Max Kielbasa is replacing Dick Cheeseburger as my default character name in all video games now.
Goooood, goooood.
TMQ's round-up (http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2012/story/_/id/7874622/tmq-says-skinny-guys-cornerbacks-rule-modern-nfl-draft)
So, this is the Kansas City blurb...
QuoteKansas City: Mike Mamula was a pretty good college defensive lineman who wowed scouts with a fantastic workout at the 1995 combine. He shot up to the seventh overall selection of the 1995 draft. Mamula went on to a journeyman NFL career. Injuries plagued him, so we'll never know what might have been.
Now it's 2012, and Dontari Poe, a pretty good college defensive lineman, wows scouts with a fantastic workout at the combine. He shoots up to the 11th overall selection, by the Chiefs. Watch some Poe college film, and you will see a gentleman who looks like a journeyman. Played too "high," seeming to struggle to locate the ball. When a defensive lineman straightens up to look for the ball, he exposes his chest to blockers and is immediately pasted. For all Poe's incredible size-strength numbers, he spent considerable time flat on his back after being knocked over because he played too high.
Workout numbers are interesting, but how an athlete performs under game conditions is what matters. Some athletes have remarkable measurables but just don't play well. Other athletes fail to stand out in a crowd -- I chatted with LeSean McCoy at a Super Bowl party, and physically he is unremarkable -- but when they are on the field, they exhibit a sixth sense. McCoy plays as if he were twice his size; Poe plays as if he were half his size.
That article totally went full circle.
shady playes pretty small imo...in a great way of course...but i dont know if id be holding him as a player that plays twice his size...
hideous example used by that writer

Exactly.
It's not basketball TMQ. If he played twice his size, he would be o-line sized monster bowling people over. Shady doesn't play like that at all.
I stopped reading that dude about 5 years ago. He is too old, grumpy, and repetitive for me.
I'm pretty sure they meant Shady plays with huge heart and balls whereas Poe plays like the world's tallest midget.
if he was he did a terrible job of articulating it and it also would be wrong...po po's heart has never been questioned....just his production

He needs an editor something awful. His columns are way way too long and his "smart guy talking football" schtick got old a long time ago. As you said, like five years ago.
And, as if on cue, Deadspin completely eviscerates Easterbrook (http://deadspin.com/5906772/haughty-dipshtein-gregg-easterbrook-makes-us-ask-what-is-a-glory-boy)
thats a weekly feature.
I wish I knew about it sooner. How anyone reads TMQ is beyond me.
how does everyone hear about all these places...i feel like a 75 year old everytime something like "TMQ" is discussed and everyone is acting like they have known about it for the last 15 years and ive never heard it.....
this happens all the time
For me, when I first got out of college I had a lot of time to kill during the work days, so I spent a lot of time on page2 and other one off's of other sports sites. I read his column a few times and after I got over the "OMG, its so long" gimmic, I realized it was just one big piece of shtein. Then in 2003 when he ranted about Jews in hollywood, he got kicked off ESPN, only to be brought back, thats probably the only reason I remembered him and not just "TMQ".
Every now and then I'll see someone post a link, but more times than not I'll pass. I think someone here posted a link to his draft recap and I thought "ok, lets see what this idiot has to say"... and surprise! I was completly worthless.
So... you're not missing out.
Now, a column that highlights his weekly idiocy and rips him a new icehole, that appeals to me.
i feel like TMQ actually has been a thing for 15 years. unreadable for the last 13 but still a thing.
I was just impressed that the entire section on Kansas City centered around the Eagles, because that's the kind of nonsense he writes.
For the record, I think MMQB and TMQ are two of the worst examples of sports writing around. Fat white guys get forums to drone on about young black kids playing football. But, I generally read both for the unintentional humor.
Kissingsuzykolber is pretty goddamn funny.

Wait a sec, are you talking about TMQ\MMQB or CF\EMB?
There is not EMB.
