Option 4: Eagles

not looking good for the immediate future....there isnt any of these teams who are up and coming...its either bleh or on their way down
so who wins first??
Lakers.
forgot about this but its good to know that the phillies homerwagon is still crankin...even if people wont admmit being a part of it
I couldn't believe I was the first one to vote for the Flyers.
I picked the Phils, but between their offseason and the Flyers' young stars, I'm beginning to lean more their way.
A certain amount of luck and getting hot at the right time is in play, but here's my thinking:
Sixers: just not enough talent to compete, minimum of 5-7 years away
Eagles: can't win this year, definitely enough talent to compete in the short-term... but with Green Bay in the NFC, I think an entire roster and coaching turnover will happen before their next real shot
Phillies: as legit a chance to win in 2012 as anyone, hopefully, but it gets bleaker and bleaker after that
Flyers: have the talent to get hot and win this season (before the Phillies) but even if not are built to compete again and again for a few seasons
I think the difference that people are perceiving is that the Flyers have had the talent to get hot and win since 1994, and have failed to do so.
Both the Phillies and Flyers have a decent shot in the short term, and probably enough clout as organizations to remain relatively competitive in the long term. But the Phillies are the only one with a track record of actually winning anything over the last quarter century.
My thinking is the Phillies are only a hot line up away from being the favorites. Yes their line up has sucked in October lately, but they've shown they CAN get hot, as they have during the middle of the season. If that hot streak comes a little later in the year, with that pitching, I think they win the WS. If not...they gotta hope the few hits they do get are in the right spots.
As for the Flyers...what FF and QB said
I also voted for the Phils and my logic is fairly simple.
The Eagles and Sixers aren't going to win a championship this year. The Flyers could I guess but I don't follow hockey enough to know just how good the Flyers are and how well they match up with the other top teams in the league...so I can't vote for them because I simply don't have an educated opinion about them. So by simple process of elimination, the Phils get my vote because they have the pitching to get it done in October, they just need a SF/StL-like October at the plate that revolves around timely hitting.
just so everyone knows its not who has the best shot to win one this year...its who wins the NEXT one
didnt think i had to explain this but i was wrong
Pretty sure we got that.
No the poll wasn't answered the way IGY thought it should be so naturally we must not have understood the poll.
Phillies.
The Phillies won 100+ games last season. The Eagles are horrendous, the Flyers are practically an entirely new team and the Sixers are, well, you know.
But it's "bandwagoning" to pick the Phils.
the phillies dont have a single player who can get better next year...and in fact have an ancient team that is slowly getting worse...they are on the way down not up...they have ZERO chance of winning the world series next year and less chance than the eagles winning the superbowl...dont get me wrong i dont think any of the teams are winning in the next year or two but the phillies are def not
if you voted for the phillies because you think they have the best organization of the four teams and that in ten years they will be back on top and that will be the cities next title then thats understandable...but if you are voting for the phillies because they were the best of the four teams last year then thats just not looking at the situation in a wise manner
The thing about baseball is that of the four majors I think that is the one where an older team has a better shot at winning compared to the other sports.
So while the Phils are not getting younger and don't have any real youth to add to the team, they do have great pitching. It will come down to the offense again. That doesn't make me all warm and fuzzy about them - but when talking about which of our four teams will win first I think they're the obvious choice.

i agree on the age thing regarding baseball but when i look at the phillies team i see nothing about them that screams world series caliber
i also agree that the offense needs to get a lot better but the reality if that its only going to get worse...that said they lost to the cardinals primarily because that supposedly great pitching failed them in game two....the phillies pitching is great in the regular season when other teams arent bearing down on every pitch and every at bat and against bad teams....in the playoffs tho the seperation btwn their staff and the others closes greatly

Halladay-Lee-Hamels perhaps?
they have never even won a playoff series together much less a title....and two of them are getting deeper into their 30's where a fall off even if its small is inevitable
then you have the offense which is so bad in the postseason that it pretty much nullifys any rotational advantage they may have over their opponent
show me substantial upgrade in the lineup and i might see things differently however not only is it not going to be much better its actually going to be worse
i cant really argue that the phillies have the best chance to win a title out of the four teams in 2012 but thats completely difefrent than who will win the citys next title....unless everyone is saying the phillies will win in 2012
Phillies - decent chance in 2012, lesser chance in 2013-2014, decent chance longer term because of high payroll but not great chance because of depleted farm system
Flyers - lesser chance in 2012 than Phillies but decent chance in the next 3-5 years if Bryz doesn't suck, management always keeps team relatively competitive
Eagles - could be the beginning of a longer-term decline and with Packers/Rodgers in the NFC, getting to the Super Bowl will be harder than winning it
Sixers - picking them for this would really have no basis you believe in the inspiring power of Phil E. Moose

Which one am I on?
Yes.
i dont give a shtein about the nhl or nba so it was between the birds and phils and i dont think i'll ever see a superbowl win.
